@burningsinews The song is armenian and its name is "Habran". Check for it on Haig Yazdjian's discography. The greek version called "Mystika pos s' agapo", you can find it on the greek singer's personal cd with the name "Apo homa kai nero" (Από χώμα και νερό)
@burningsinews the name of the song is Habrban it is on a cd called Talar and the whole cd is really good. Not the normal stuff I listen to but I like his music do much!

@burningsinews for sure...in a music video :"WHATS THE NAME OF THIS FUCKING SONG AND WHERE CAN I GET IT? IS IT ON ANY ALBUM?"u r a bit angry for no reason..!
I have noticed that in some great music videos with songs of "mixed traditions", many people argue about nationalities and paternity of these songs and discussion ends to same old nationalistic crap. Anyway i strongly believe that songs are always mix of cultures. It's a natural phenomenon that music cultures travel around (Roma made their part on it), mix each other and great songs are born through this procedure. We should get an example from that as citizens of the world...
You are correct that the Muslims invaded and Arabized the Fertile Crescent and North Africa (by force) in the 7th Century. The Fertile Cresent was home to many cultures before the Muslim Conquest and that Arab civilization as we know it today is built upon indegenous predecessors in the M.E./N.A. My only point is that, stylistically, Haig Yazidjian plays like a Syrian oudist, not like an Armenian oudist. I support the struggles on non-Arabs and non-Muslims in the M.E./N.A.
Yes, I agree with you. But you have to remember Syrians are not Arabs. They are falsely called Arabs because Arabs invaded them and imposed their religion and language. If you listen to assyrian-christian music -for example- from Syria, which is way older than islamic chants in this region, you will get it. Their this music has mesopotamian roots, not arab, and you will find many ancient musical manuscripts that will help you understand my point of view.
The majority of Syrians are "Arabs" because THEY CHOOSE to identify as "Arabs," whether you or I like it or not. It is in this sense that Syria is an "Arab" country. I have no problem calling Syria an "Arab" country as long as no one tries to claim that is was "Arab" prior to the Muslim Conquest AND as long as the rights of those M.E./N.A. ethnic groups who (legitimately) choose not to be "Arab" (Amazigh, Kurds, Copts, Maronites, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Jews, etc.) are respected. Shlama lukh.
"they choose"? Are you sure? In no way did they do so. They have been invaded and under the rule of the Arabs and their cultural hegemony for so many years that no one can claim they had any choice.
It is exactly the same with my people : 1300 years of occupation made most of my fellows call themselves Arabs, which they are not in fact.
Last but not least, those who refuse to become Arabs are not respected. Not at all. Believe my experience.
Did the people of the Fertile Crescent identify as "Arabs" 250 years ago? For the majority, I doubt it. The definition of "Arab" has evolved over the last 200 years or so from "Arabian" to "Arabic-speaker." There is never perfect freedom of choice when it comes to political power and culture. The Christian Syrians and Lebanese who helped change the definition of "Arab" and create Arab Nationalism were making a choice, but also trying to end discrimination against non-Muslims.
You flatter me, Effendi! I am merely educated; the problem is that too many Americans and other Westerns are under-educated! Yes, I am "Udi John." Are you also a "veteran' of the MEIC Forums?
Haig Yazijian is an excellent ARABIC-style oud player. (Note his Bashir-style oud with floating bridge.) I believe he was born and raised in Syria, which would account for his style. Richard Hagopian from the USA has a more traditional Armenian style.
"Arabic" is not an apropriate word. This style of music existed centuries before the Arabs invaded Mesopotamia. It is middle-eastern rather than "arabic". People often call arabic what is Persian, Assyrian, Phoenician etc... Please give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar.

Interesting combination of music. It's weired, because it's not one thing or another.
I enjoyed the instrumentation.
