  • i was there in front row this concert was amazing!!!! i go every year!!!!

  • He is good but the songs dont fit him...Peter sounded great with the songs...

  • I had the opportunity to see NewsBoys at WinterJam 2010. They were awesome. Yes, it was different without Peter. It still honored and glorified our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Tait is a welcome addition. Have you heard any of their new songs? If not, please wait and see what you are now slamming! Newsboys has been and always will be one of the best Christian bands out there. Praise God for this ministry. Remember whose you are!! Thank you Jesus.

  • Peter, Michael, it does not matter to me. Duncan Phillips, the drummer, is where its at. If you ever see them in concert watch him, its absolutely amazing.

  • Michael tait is one of my friend's uncle(:

    He's the best.

  • I call this Michael Tait and the Newsboys not the Newsboys because it sounds nothing like them. It's not the same, so i don't really listen to them anymore. I really like Vota now, consisting of a former guitarist from the newsboys, Bryan Olesen. They're pretty legit. Check em' out. :)

  • I just saw Newsboys last week. As much as we all miss Peter...I think Michael is just as wonderful. He's such an entertainer and the crowd was full of energy and love. It was a Fantastic Time!

Welcome Michael!..and Peter ..we all look forward to your songs....get busy writing.!!!!! and enjoy your Family!

  • This is BS. If any of you think about this in depth it all it shouldnt be to hard to figure out. Michael Tait's solo career has sucked since DC Talk threw there "hiatus" out there. Peter Furhler wants time with his family (rightly so). However Peter has been and is the Newsboys. The studio stuff with Tait, its a total sham with AutoTune everywhere, listen to him sing on radio shows then compare, there is no doubt. Tait has already ruined any positive steps the band took without Jody Davis..

  • I feel that tait got kinda jacked cause he has to sing songs that were never meant for his voice so of course he won't sound the same what lead singer would all in all tait was probably the best choice seeing his personality

  • To continue, I think that the best thing to do would be to start a new band. It really only has to be cosmetic, a name change or something. Just something to distinguish it from the old. That's my opinion at least.

  • The reason people bag on Tait as the new singer for newsboys is because they feel it is a betrayal of the songs they grew up listening to. It's like if your parents got divorced, and your mom re-married. Then, your new step-father went and taped his face onto the face of your real father in family photographs. Your new step-father might be great, but he shouldn't try to be your actual father.

Also, the issue is compounded because of Tait's visibility from dc Talk.

  • When I heard it I was excited cause I thought if gave me a chance to hear all the old songs I love in a new way.

  • Hey everyone. I've heard the Newsboys live in concert with Peter and with Michael (separate occasions). As awesome as it was having Peter touring with the band, Michael is just as awesome. Peter said in a note that he hopes and prays people accept Michael just as they have him...He's still part of the team, writing and studio work, but wants time with his family more which is understandable. Let's welcome Michael with open arms and bless him as we have Peter :)

  • Good grief..i wish people wouldnt bag on tait so much..yea but peter is gonna be missed, but he is not with the group no more..so move on and get over it

  • he did the same thing lst nite at Idianapolis

  • plus paul coleman not in the band anymore either

  • the real plase for Tait is whit kevin max and toby mac in DCTalk

  • I couldn't agree more! I would really like to see them. I think he'll do alright here though. I'm sad to see Pete not performing with them anymore though :(..

  • yes.

  • Man, this is surreal. I was sad when phil left, but this band will NEVER be the same without Peter's unmistakable Aussie accent (and this is coming from a black guy!). I'm SO glad I got a chance to see them live twice before the switch happened (once in College Station and once in Houston).

Still, the Newsboys is more than a band--it's a mission that continues to touch lives around the world, and I know Tait will do a great job continuing that mission. I still feel like crying, though....

  • Saw this show recently. Hes pretty good

    nice sound

    Im all up for it..

  • i WAS THERE!!!!

  • This just isn't the Newsboys. I'm sorry but I don't support them doing this...Nobody cares about Michael Tait's solo stuff so he thinks he can get back into the buiseness by adding "Newsboys" to his resume?

  • the newsobys invited him to sing lead... it wasn't like he was pursuing them. He said it was a great honor.

I agree with you that this current line up is nothing like the newsboys of old, but I think it'll still be ok. It will be interesting to see how they work tait's style into their upcoming album

  • It is said Peter Furler will continue to write songs so the style doesnt change too much

  • Sportsnut~ Tait didn't go after this, Peter personally asked him to do after consulting his bandmates. Only after prayer did Michael accept the invite.

  • I know he didn't go after this...I didn't mean to come off like that. I'm just angry that a band that meant so much to me over years has lost it's one remaining founding member.

  • No worries mate! It is very hard to used to Peter not touring. I have been a fan for many years as well. =)

  • i went to the one in greensboro NC and they played that song too.

  • He was actually really good. Better than I expected. I'm just sad that they didnt play Beautiful Sound or Love liberty disco

    :(

  • I was there last night xD

  • Yea Peter did a lot of the vocals on "Going Public" and "Take Me To Your Leader" on "Not Ashamed" Peter got 5 songs and John James got 5, so it was half and half. James just wasn't much of a studio singer from what I heard, but James was phenomenal live on stage if you ever get a chance to see some old live videos of theirs, yea James was quite the performer. I miss him and Peter both.

: (...............good luck Michael you have some big shoes to fill!!!!!!

  • I think people need to understand that even though Peter has always been a staple with the vocals in this band, he was not always the lead singer. John James was the lead singer with the band for the first 10-12 years with The Newsboys. Peter wasnt out front permanently until the "Step up to the microphone" album. Its definetly a big change, but I think its a great move for the band. It will take some getting used to, but in the end it seems like the best move.

  • Actually John James never really sang lead on many of the songs after the first 3 albums which didn't do very well."Not Ashamed" was the first major release and Peter sang lead almost every song on that album and the next two that followed it with John.He only sang lead on about 3 cuts per album.

Example: "Reality" John James is singing the verse, the bridge,"runaway..." part, right before the chorus is Peter.Peter sings lead on

    "

    "

    "Breakfast"

    Shine"

    "I'm Not Ashamed"

    "Spirit Thing"

    etc

  • I've been a Newsboys fan for only about 4 years, but, it's just not the same without Peter Furler as lead singer, no disrespect to Michael Tait, or to their ministry. If it's time to break up the band, just break it up IMO, or change the name at the very least. The lead singer is the band's identity, and now it definately has a new identity.

  • totally understand and i am a tait fan when he was with dc talk thats it i dont know why they did this but i was getting the feeling this band should have came to an end after phil joel left the band.

  • yeah, Tait sounds awesome with DC Talk, but the newsboys have a different style. We'll see what happens. I'm kicking myself for not going to more than one concert during the Furler era though!

  • totally agree with you on that i saw them once and had tickets to two more shows just never attended thought newsboys for some reason were never going to end.

  • I'm hopeing that Furler is able to come back after a few years off for special concerts or somethings. that'll be cool, maybe a re-union show with phil joel, just so I can see them again, lol.

  • I have never seen them...I am going to in two weeks and then got word Tait is there....he is good dont get me wrong but the band will never ever sound the same with pete

  • He sounds great and I'm excited to see how he does, but I'm really gonna miss Peter. I mean, he's been the frontman for sooo long. Its just going to take some getting used to. Maybe it would have been better if they hadn't done this so suddenly. A little warning would have been nice

  • :( Im sad

  • aw this is so sad

  • I don't know--I think this will work out. It's not something I'm used to, but I like it already!

  • I think everyone will get used to having Tait as the now singer for the Newsboys. It's not like this has never happened before, when Greg X. Voltz left Petra, he was replaced by John Schlitt, who was known as the former frontman of the band Head East. This will all work out and the 'boys will be as popular as ever.

  • Thank you !!!!!!

  • It sounds like he's doing a cover of a newsboys song. I really can't see him being accepted as their lead singer. Tait has a great voice, but it is not newsboys.

  • Guess what, bud... The majority of newsboys fans are dc Talk fans or don't really care about Peter Furler being up there or not. Not everyone is a die-hard fan. That's just reality dude. Maybe the people on newsboys message boards might not... But too bad!

  • I wouldn't say the Marjority, man.... Maybe it's 50%. A lot of Newsboys fan love the Newsboys because of Peter Furler. His voice is quite unique and a lot of people I heard from are not sure if they are going to like the new sound....

  • But what about the other 50%?

  • I was there and this concert was AMAZING! :] You had great seats!!!!! :]]

  • psh.. seats? we got kicked out of ours (our tickets got messed up) so we just moved up to the front haha and yeah the concert was amazing =]

  • It's kind of funny how things happen. Newsboys actually got their first big break here in America by...touring with dc Talk.

    Just throwing that out there.

  • This song is called 'wherever we go', not 'everywhere we go'.

  • Wow, it sounds really cool. I hope they tour close to Nashville. There's no doubt Peter's great, it's just great hearing a different interpretation. love it.

  • I think they would've have broken up but the band is a ministry and i think peter wanted to keep that ministry going so he picked tait to lead for newsboys.

  • You have hit it on target... Ministry doesn't end when one person moves into a different forray of it. These guys are all in ministry from the singers to the crew and everyone around them. Newsboys have always been about creating an atmosphere of worship and praise to our Lord. I've been a fan since the good old days. Was at a few of their concerts as a teen. They were great. Best of wishes to them.

To God be all the glory. Bottom line- If you lift Jesus up He will draw all people to Himself.

  • This should not be happening. They should just break up. Wow.

  • Peter Furler=Newsboys

    Michael tait=DC Talk

    Enough said, dont mix them.

  • That's exactly how I feel. They're both great bands, but they don't go together. I'm glad they'll continuing to spread God's news but it's just sad.

  • Peter is replacing Peter with Tait. Respect his decision.

I'm a way bigger dc Talk fan than newsboys fan so I'm VERY excited for this. No one has heard from Tait for a long time until now.

Good for Tait. And good for Peter. He touched many lives. I pray Tait can continue it.

  • What about bringing Paul Coleman or Phil Joel back instead of the new guy? They at least have been part of the band before, and I think that fans would accept one of them as the new lead better than they would the new guy. It would keep the sound of the band closer to what it usually is as well.

  • They should bring back John James...the ORIGINAL lead singer of the Newsboys...

  • drynian... there is a beautiful article online about john james and why he isn't returning... thee are some really valid points in it...

  • Tait, I <3 you, but it would feel a lot differents if Pete was up there with you...

  • *deep sigh*

wonder what happened to pete anyway?

  • Tait is a very talented musician. But no...the Newsboys should hang it up. The Newsboys without Peter's voice is just not happening.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, you should check out the newsboys msg. boards and Inpop media press kit. They're expecting a formal announcement tomorrow morning. :-(

  • Yep, I was there too,. It was awsome!!!!

  • Wow thats awesome!!!!

  • *cry*

  • holy crap. Tait, I love you, but... no.

  • I know it's weird, but the concert was still amazing... I'm gonna try to get some videos of the other bands up soon.

  • just not right...

  • Anyone want some fast tickets to a show in Wenatchee WA? I won't be needing them.
