Law or no law you need proper training to fly a trike safely unless you have a death wish. I am so amazed at people asking "do I need a license to fly this"? As opposed to what, "can I go fly this without training or license to see if I can kill myself"? What kind of stupid question is this honestly. I have been training people to fly trikes and have created now dozens of pilots and many many pilots who were airplane pilots and all needed on average 12 to 15 hours to solo
I flew with Paul in Kauai, Hawaii...he was totally awesome...hey Paul, I soloed on my Airborne Edge X, I am just building experience before my check ride, I hope to see you soon.
Check out "Barnstormers" onlline, then search trikes. You will come up with about 20 different brands....then just google a dealer for the one you find interesting.
Paul is it something you would recommend a parachute on a ultralight? just as you dont see many pilots have them on thier machines...And where in the uk can your dvds be bought from mate?
...and here in the UK there is a 'Quik' from Pegasus which has a speed trim wheel (think it adjusts the luff on the trailing edge) which means you can fly at 100mph (if you can afford the fuel!)
Heron I can think of a couple places to buy one. Kemmeries Aviation in AZ sells Air Creation Trikes. TC's trikes in Tennessee sells his own brand, as well as Northwing Trikes. Fly hard trikes is in Tennesee as well. Then there is Gibbo Gear Trikes in Texas. All the companies are on the web, search them out.
...and trikes don't have rudders. The Air Creation (Fun GT Bis) has a very nice foot throttle - it's a cast alloy hinged footrest, a bit like a car accelerator pedal (auto gas pedal..?)

how dangerous is it? are ballistic parachutes available for these planes?
shushberger 3 years ago
The dangers like most aircraft are determined by the pilot and yes ballistic parachutes are on many trikes

Excellent video. Very informative. I would have rather not had the background music though as it was hard to listen to the actual instruction.

No foot throttle??
Bobanjudee 4 years ago
this is an Aircraft, Aircrafts don't have the throttle on the floor. your feet are used to turn the rudder and nose Gear.
AceGForce 4 years ago
Wrong, there are quite a lot of Microlights that have the throttle on the floor (pedal)

Nice Vid!

Nope, not really, but if you want to fly without a license your trike need to meet some requirements:
-It cannot hold more than 5 gallons (19 liters) of fuel
-the full weight stall speed can not be more than 24 knots(!)
-it must have only one seat
-the trike cannot weigh more than 230 pounds(i think)
-The trike cannot be capable of speeds exceeding 65 knots
as long as your trike meets these requirements (and maybe some few more), you can fly without a license as much as you want.

well damn i was wrong. meet the requirements in the trailer (FAR: Federal Aviation Regulations part 103) and you can fly with no license.
