@woundedhorse Wow, that sounds spot on- thanks for the info. I like the sound of the G7 with the F (7th) in the bass, creating that lovely bass movement. Squeeze could write some sophisticated harmony to be sure.
Your version is good, thank you. I have a slight correction to the end of the verses starting right after the "laundry on the hill" section. You admit that you are unsure about the little ascending progression right at "the bill boards and the buildings" coming out of that B major chord is actually and A major followed by an A augmented to a inverted D major chord to an E major. I got this from a sheet music version and listening very carefully to the chord inversions of that part.
For some of the dexterity challenged, there is a nice version with a Capo on the 2nd fret out there. I played along with Glenn Tillbrook himself on an acoustic version here on YouTube and it sounded really nice. Lots of easy open chords with the capo if you just want a campfire version to play for fun.
Very good, did you ever think of tabing it out and posting it, I see you have a written down. its hard to follow so much in a video. But you play it very well and sing it too. Great job!
Perfect pace and delivery of a lesson. No BS, no filler, no trite repetition, perfect attention to the details we need PLUS excellent vocal lines to keep it all in line. Please keep these great vids coming, man. Only thing that would drive it all the way home - quick numerical chord chart in the notes ( you know, x35550 type stuff)
Hey Mack , 1 of my favourite Squeeze records ... u do it real justice , pleasure watching u ... im goin to see them in sept in north UK .... love to do what u can , but im only air guitar but not bad voice ....... amazing mack . thanks
@4crevis No, I do not have a Britain filter. I am quite busy eeking out my slim existence in Florida, and a move across the pond is not in the cards at present. I am happy you found something helpful in the video. I post them when I can.
@MackMeadowsguitar Ok, sorry Mack i apologise, a moment of madness on my part! Great video, still sussing out the chords! Keep the tuition coming it's really helpful to us novices! Thankyou!
Ever thought about teaching in Britain? That was amazing, i hope to be playing like that one day, i am completely self taught over 5 years now and know all the basic stuff, you know A-G, flats, sharps, barred stuff but really want to progress, i actually found 'Tempted' on 'Ultimate Guitar.com' the problem is it's just chords it never actually shows you technique which is why looked on 'you tube' and found you! Great voice as well!
Dude, that is incredible. Great explanation, and very nice singing of a challenging vocal.
I just watched "Glenn Tilbrook: One for the Road," on Netflix and was reminded of how much I loved Squeeze. It's a story of his road trip across the US in a camper, playing solo shows. The guy is the consumate performer and troubadour, in addition to a compelling songwriter.
@MackMeadowsguitar Interesting to see where his chords differ from yours (I think just a plain Abm7 in 4th position, rather than your E/G#, for example).
Tilbrook also hits some clams in that vid... but just powers through and covers with his great groove.
@MackMeadowsguitar In the "Glenn Tilbrook: One for the Road" movie there's great scene where he mentions his guitar chops, and how he was "influenced by Hendrix" and others. I thought he was joking, but in the next segment he rips through an amazing and accurate version of "Voodoo Chile" on his acoustic.
Thank you so much. You sir are a natural teacher. You made something fairly challenging really easy. Please your on-camera demeanor is very positive and very encouraging. Great job.
U R a complete star Mack. thx so much. BTW this is not an easy song to sing (much of the squeeze catalogue is tough!) and yet you seem to stay in tune effortlessly. Once again good job.
Great job. I now have access to a quite inpenetrable song because of you. Just one more little bit of help needed please. I have watched many times and listened carefully but can't quite work out the chord you are explaining from 4.00 onwards. The string number and finger number would be really helpful if you could post them. Many Thx R
@rikkirant I'd be glad to. The C#/E# chord: 6th and 5th strings are muted, then 3rd finger on 4th string 3rd fret, 1st finger on 3rd string 1st fret, 2nd finger on 2nd string 2nd fret, and 1st finger on 1st string 1st fret (1st finger is a bar on the last 3 strings of 1st fret). The easiest way to approach it is to think of it as a Bb minor 7 chord and omit the root, playing only the last 4 strings. Then slide up one fret to a regular B minor 7 chord and your whole life changes.
I knew Robert. For a while, I played with Laura Mann, a singer he was promoting. Also, he has a very young Scott McGill playing guitar with his band during the early days. Scott played on two tracks on my someday to be released CD.
Wow, you have an eye for detail. I met Robert in Vero Beach FL a couple of years ago, when he was about to go promote his "Troubador" album. I was ecstatic to meet the "escalator of life" man. A great guy, and a terrible loss.
Really helpfull! Thanks so much for sharing.

On the part "Forget it all, I know i will...." It's Bm/F#Bass, G7, E.
The G7 chord has F in the bass so on this little progression the bass goes
F#, F, E that is Bm/F#, G7/F, E. I've watched Mr Tillbrook play it from 2 feet away. Also, the C# chord has to be C#7/Fbass - almost Fdim.

Squeeze are one of the best bands ever, and this video shows you partly why.
Way ahead of their time and drowned out by pathetic punk and garbage glam.
