I saw him about 1970 in Worcester, Ma.(Clark U) It was one of the best concerts of my concert going-ass life!!! And he was with the Persuasions!! What a spell he placed over us!!.. What a wonderful contrast to the fabulous Persuasions!!!
That was so amazing, thank you for posting. I love this music so bounteous with soul, I cried with memories of those gone before who also So loved This Music.
As well in the rest of the world we could need such as a prince..let us hope some of the next generation will pick it up...peace is not a durty word or such.....
i'm feeling umes87's comment... i'm in my late 20s, but have always been an old soul. i heard this song on the local jazz station on xmas eve... blew my mind. much <3
Well...I'm not sure of the average age amongst the comments...but m only like 21...n this music blows my mind. I think people born in the 70's witnessed music coming to a golden age or maybe it's because m just an old soul. Neways just wanted to appreciate the music. Peace.
I love reading all the positive comments here. Leon was a vocal magician and a very spiritual cat. This was a special era in jazz, late and post-Coltrane, and Leon was at the forefront. Beautiful tune.
memories...1960's........FM 105.1 KBCA Los Angeles....Jim Gosa, Chuck Niles, Sam Fields, Laura Lee, Zan Stewart, Bob Cole, Rick Holmes, Tolly Strode........memories.
Thxs for sharing! I've haven't heard this one since I was a child and my father playing jazz records. Shame they don't keep these songs on radio today.
I remember hearing this song for the first time and couldn't figure out if the sound was 'yodeling' or Pharoah playing tricks with his sax. I then realized it was Leon Thomas working his magic. The man's voice was truly like an instrument in it's on right. amazing and very soothing. He could definitely hold his own.
Also, I just remembered when I found this song for the first time. It was about 10years ago. I bought used compilation CD at local CD shop in japan, and this song was in it. I was really amazed so spiritual sound. 8 years later i moved to Harlem NY.Leon Thomas was living around 145st. And his song has been still played at local jam session!
i really love this artist ..great voice , personality and style "the creator has a master plan" with luis armstrong is also a good song of him ..but this is a gem (also a group called galliano in the 90's cover this song).. is a prince of soul (maybe some people forget him, Thomas died of heart failure on May 8, 1999.)
I hope we can all heed this wise mans voice. With all the struggles, hatred, violence and lack of compassion, Leon's words have great meaning. Let loving never cease. Hear our pleas.
Listen to his song..."THE CREATOR HAS A MASTER PLAN...I saw him in person in San Francisco at Yoshi's 6/25/09.I was lucky enough to have him sign my 1969 copy of KARMA album, and take a picture with him.......
this time last year there were hardly any leon thomas vids on youtube. im so glad people are finding out about this man.. or remembering him.. he was way before his time!!!!
Nice! Take note Tubers. Thanks, dotluke. Oh . . . This is AMAZING BTW! Two transcendental geniuses are better than "Hey, you got chocolate in my penut butter!?!"
@wwwdotluke how deceptive and cunning, i never thought of subtle changes in the title could keep them from taking down videos. Also great song, much love for pharaoh sanders and leon thomas
This brings back so many memories of when I was a child..my parents introduced me to all kinds of different music, jazz, rock, classical, folk, r&b...I'd love to find China Doll by Leon. I love his yodeling.
