I hate it when 'Oscar Buzz' becomes more influential to who wins the Oscar that the actual performances. I'm glad that Helen Mirren got recognised and won and Oscar, but in this particular category Meryl or Kate should have won in my opinion. It was down to the hype surrounding the film due to the period it addressed and the who conspiracy theory as to 'Who killed Diana'. It's a shame that Oscar is no longer just about sole cinematic performance.

All Helen Mirren did, was put on a wig, looked like the queen and recited some lines. Meryl put on a wig too, but she took on a very difficult role, and really changed her characeter. I saw "The Devil Wears Prada", and I was amazed by Meryl's play. "The Devil Wears Prada" is a comedy, but Miranda Priestly's character wasn't an easy character to play. Meryl said too, that she worked really hard on it. I saw "The Queen" too, and it was a good performance from Helen Mirren, but it was far away from Meryl's genious performance. I'm a Meryl fan, but I tried to look detachedly at both performances...but my opinion is still that, that the Oscar should have gone to Meryl Streep!

I love Kate Winslet too... she definitely deserved the nomination, as always, this year. But... this is the only time I feel she didn't really deserve to win, not with the competition she was facing. Every other time she lost, I believe she was robbed. Especially in 2004, when she lost to Hilary Swank (who ALREADY had an Oscar!). If Kate was nominated for "Little Children" in 2005, she would by far be the best one. But don't worry. Her time will come, sooner or later.
