I remember I made a great 30 min rpg on this when I was like 12. There was just the gathering of your crew (one of which was a ninja you had to duel first for respect, I think a dwarf, and a dog. You just really had to level up a bit before hitting up the tall dark evil castle in the distance from town, which was making the sky red and making monsters spawn. I can't remember exactly, but it probably took about five to ten hours or so. I didn't design it to be a full fledged game, as I just used it for Machinima purposes, and I'm afraid the original save game data is long gone.

Do you mean during normal, non-storyteller gameplay? If you want to make a sound when someone talks, you go into the menu for the event and can add a sound effect to play the instant before dialogue comes onto the screen.

I plug the cables from the PS3 into a Canopus ASCV110 video capture device, which goes into the computer, where AVID DV express (my video editing program) recognizes the device, where I can record myself playing. However, there is a 1 second delay using this method, due to how far the information has to travel, but otherwise, it works really well.

RPG Maker 1 had the most customizability but was hard as hell to understand and didn't have 3D.

RPG Maker 2 allowed you to work with the mechanics and almost just as customizable as the first however it was difficult to get to the REALLY good stuff and it lacked detailed graphics.

RPG Maker 3 was the easiest to work with overrall and had the best graphics but lacked most of the customizing features the 2nd had.

We need a 4th RPG Maker that combines the best parts of the previous 3!

Well... RPGXP and RGPVX are ruby based (dunno about the older ones). A 3D Game Engine based upon a interpreted script language= hell. Also, it makes game developement unnecessarily complicated (heck, you have any idea what it takes to create halfway decent looking 3D ressources?). Also, most rpgmaker using people use it for SNES style games. if you want a 3D game, just make one from scratch with OpenGL or something.

not necessarily. you will want to use a compiled language for 3D games, but noone forces you to use C++. It's not like there weren't any alternative languages (i personally don't like the syntax of C- it's too assembler-like, and kinda hard to read)

That's not exactly correct. OpenGL are- as the name states- libraries. And there are OpenGL for languages other than C++ (e.g. for Delphi).

But you're right in that most people use C++ - even though the speed difference to e.g. Delphi is within acceptable bounds, and uh well... the syntax of C++ is, as i already said, pretty weird (it's kinda hard to read... and i just don't like it xD)

Yes, it's for the PS2. It's easier to use then it's two predecessors, especially when it comes to building worlds and towns, but there is still a fairly high learning curve. Overall, I do enjoy it, but then again, I only use it to make these little movies.
