  • Educational technology is great... if you can actually manage to get some of it in your classroom. There will always be the haves and the have-nots when it comes to funding, and the latter group gets stuck having to do more with less. Besides, if a kid has no support at home, all the classroom technology in the world won't fix his problems. Outside of the teachers themselves, parents are still the #1 determining factor in academic success.

  • K-12 means longer education and precise knowledge right? What if kids don't study and repeats/kicks-out/suspends/ in school? More payments and tuition for parents? idk.

  • Great. Most of the time when I brought tech into the classroom, they spent time playing with the bells and whistles rather than improving their learning. Do kids read and write better today compared to kids 20 or 40 years ago, despite all this technology? This is mostly tripe. Do you expect the ed establishment (the adults) who watch students walk down the street while texting their friends on their way to play video games, etc. to believe that this is some magic bullet?lol ...rofl....

  • I am a teacher.Let´s start to teach them to read.....I feel a great difference in 20 years.Kids read less and can not sing from a book when I play piano.....

  • Try this - we want people who can create advanced computers, cell phones, and medicines. The people who succeed in these areas really have the basics under control (math, language, biology, physics, chemistry, etc) so they have the freedom to think. If you don't have those basics under control then create thinking and problem solving are going to be difficult.

  • People want teachers to teach students to learn how to think. But when you have no basis to think from you begin to sound really stupid. Think of those people who have tried to have a discussion with you about something they had no idea about.

  • Governments continually cut funding to education, and when this happens the only thing people complain about is teacher salaries - displaying openly that education is not important to us. Then well-educated immigrants get good jobs, because their families and countries value education, and people complain about foreigners taking jobs. As a society we value corporations over children, as shown by our government and public actions.

  • This video is ridiculous. They blame teachers for not having technology, saying that only a few LET their students use technology. They focus on "digital stories" without admitting that you need to know HOW to write a story. The statements about China actually lead to the video arguing that because children are better-educated in China we should give our kids iPads to catch-up. How stupid we are, in North America, to think that technology will improve our failing educational institutions.

  • I think the biggest problem in American schools is that the children are not taught to respect their elders, their teachers or each other. I watched a documentary on Chinese schools and the children were very respectful to their teachers, their parents and other adults. The focused on school because they had to, there was discipline. American teachers are not given the right to manage their classroom in the same way and the kids don't respect them at all.

  • Someone needs to learn how to write the letter f.

  • i like this video , it inspires students and teachers to use technology in engagins ways

  • this encourages me to work hard

  • Wow that was cool! :D

  • In doing this, people will become so illiterate, they'll be given a piece of paper and they'll look for the key board.

  • What is it like being a teacher? It is being a teacher, a guidance counselor, a policeman, a detective, a judge, a nurse, and a bookkeeper all at one time. It is both exhilarating and frustrating; it is both exalting and humiliating…Give me a classroom with its you-never-know-what-to-expect atmosphere. –Blackboard Bulletin

  • @amplivoxsound fuck you mista teacha man

  • I shared this greatness at technologyintegrationineducation website

    thank you!

  • The smell of this video bad, because it is bullsh*t. For example, kids don't "share" any info of any significance-they aren't sharing about the Pythagorean theorem - they don't even know what a theorem is, most of them. A kid could design some shape using emachineshop online, but won't really know which material to choose without studying metals or plastics. The ground of all knowledge is still the same old basics of the industrial revolution. How many kids can recite the math and geo axioms?

  • @rh001YT let me guess; you had to walk uphill to get to school, both ways; in the snow; 10 miles. Your thinking is the problem, not the solution.

  • If we or our children cannot learn to express ourselves and ideas without technology then we become a slave to it. Have you ever known someone who wanted your help or ideas but was so busy texting etc. that they missed everything you said to try and help. I remember being a child.and collecting maple seeds because I thought they were of value. I also was paid a quarter to quit eating the clover out of my grandparents yard.

  • It's only my first year, but I love k12. I'm in tenth grade, and it's been teaching me how to be responsible. Sure, I don't get to have social time during school, but school is more for book smarts than for learning how to interact with your peers. I go out with my friends from my old b&m school and I do rec sports so I don't become a complete social hermit. k12 gives me the challenge of self-reliance. I am winning. I am thriving.

  • K12 IS A PIECE OF SHIT DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM AT ALL YOUR KIDS WILL PROBLY HATE YOU AND THE PROGRAM

  • @WORMIE4456W i should know im a student >.>

  • @WORMIE4456W The funny thing is that this program is free, and it goes through public schools. Before you get on a video and comment some bullshit, make sure you look up what your talking about if you dont already know it.

  • @TheTgee i do i was on that piece of shit i WAS a student then i made mom put me back in public school oh and just because its free doesn't mean its worth it

  • @WORMIE4456W Im in it,an like it,ive kept my work up and actually did it.So I guess its opinion based.

  • Anyone else noticed that the one kid's "F" at 2:02 is backwards...?

Jeez these kids really aren't acting... they don't have an education.

  • im not learning anything in this school...but my mom is ^_^

  • Learn how. Being told something on the internet and writing it down quickly before you forget. You need to actually learn shit and not just regergitate google and use it as your answer. This comeing from someone who had these resource his whole life, where google taught me everything and even though I graduated i still work shit jobs to pay off a college education tgat won't help me in anything. Learn by doing something. And LMFAO 3 1/2 hours a week gaming more like 4 hours a day.

  • @PredominateOne I know right.

  • Whoops. Did not convince me...too many overweight kids in this video to persuade me with your statistics. Time to recast......

  • waste of time

  • waste of my fuckiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggg life:)

  • this is the most boring video ive seen in my whole life like is this a joke u can tell there being forced to even be in this they probaly dont give a fuck about it school is boring no matter what you do with it its always fucking gay and its something that u cant change i dont learn shit at school cause i dont care about wat they say its fuckin boring teachers r faggots that think they no everything but they dont they spastics

  • schools for fags fuck you all you fucking muslim peasants go eat out ur mums areshole u fukin donkey riders

  • your all gay cunts

  • Pardon me? Being gay has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether you want a digitally engaging educational experience. You may want to look up the definition of "gay" sometime. You will find that the word refers to having a sexual preference for the same gender, nothing more. I bet you can find a lot of straight people who would like this too, so your statements are completely out of place and ridiculous.

  • @CaptainSnigs Did I ever even say that I'm gay? Thanks for putting words in my mouth...

  • @thebiweeklyshow shut up faggot yea wat you think ya big or somethin homes well your not yopu fucking spastic

  • @CaptainSnigs Do you really think that I'm gonna shut up just because you asked me to? When trolls come around, it's usually most prudent to do what they DON'T want. Oh, and you might try having a little respect for people. It's a lot more rewarding than insulting them because they disagree with you or have a difference preference than you do.

  • @thebiweeklyshow lick my balls shit tits your fucked up stop talking shit about me cause u will get smashed homes

  • @thebiweeklyshow ow and its actually more rewarding to insult people than respect them hahahaahahahaha you fucking retard

  • @CaptainSnigs Actually it's not. You'll make a lot more friends and have a better life if you are respectful. Feel free to call me a "fucking retard" all you want, it doesn't really bother me. I've learned how to ignore most insults.

  • @thebiweeklyshow fuck ur dumb i respect my friends but peoople i dont know such as yourself i will have a go at cause its fun to do in free time hahahaha seriosly though your a fucking retard hahahaha

  • @CaptainSnigs You won't be laughing when you pick on some poor kid that is depressed and you push them over the edge and they commit suicide. Do yourself and everyone else a favor and be polite and respectful. Trust me, people tolerate you a lot better that way.

  • @thebiweeklyshow no thanks id rather be myself fuck bein polite im a bad cunt

  • @CaptainSnigs Suit yourself. Just let the REST of us be ourselves too. Respect is a two-way street.

  • @thebiweeklyshow hes calling you "f*cked up" but infact hes teling a male to "lick his ball's"

  • @MinifigCustoms Yeah well...unfortunately for him I am not very interested in said activity at the moment.

  • @thebiweeklyshow well i was just making a point lol :)

  • As a teacher I love to use technology in my classroom but...

    1. My school has 30 computers to use for projects, we have 1000 students.

    2. The system will not fund smart boards, projectors, and other technologies to the point where we can get them anytime soon

    3. NCLB has made us "teach" to the test. If it isn't what we are supposed to teach we cannot do it.

    4. We have so much to cover that we don't have time to allow the students to be creative, at least to the point that they need to be.

  • @mcgeeb81 yeah that's the problem. Going digital means schools, districts, and states have to rethink everything. Here's the thing though--what kind of education do we get when we are "taught to the test"? Engaging students digitally over a wider range of topics would probably increase learning, by the very fact that it increases INTEREST.

  • k-12 sux

  • I agree that kids need to learn through technology, but my complaint is that we do not have the technology to do that. I had to buy my own doument camera and use my personal laptop in the classroom. Before preaching to me about technology go ahead and fund my school to allow us to use the new stuff.

  • (Continued from previous post) It's hard, in this day and age, to actually get the things we need in the classroom, much less the extra things we'd LOVE to have. (and forgive me for any errors...I'm incredibly angry that this video targets teachers and makes it look like WE are denying kids the ability to use technology on purpose when that is so far from the truth!)

  • This video just pisses me off. As a teacher, I would absolutely LOVE to have the technology mentioned in the video. You assume that it's the teacher that have no passion for technology or desire to use it, and that is a load of crap! I'm sick and tired of people blaming teacher for every frickin' thing that is wrong with the educational system. I have asked MANY times to get laptops in my room, a Smart Board, digital cameras, professional development to learn how to implement them.

  • @vzteacher As I was watching this video, my blood seriously started boiling. I am so glad someone shares my feelings. If maybe we could actually be given these resources, then I would be happy to infuse them into my planning. Otherwise, PAY ME MORE and I will buy stuff- but neither of those are a priority, so til then.....

  • @vzteacher I agree. It would be great to use technology...if it were available. This shouldn't be targeted at teachers, but at government offices who cut our budgets, school boards who spend our money on the new high school football field, etc.

On the other hand, I know several teachers who would never use technology no matter how accessible it was. And I don't believe it to be the answer to our educational problems. The biggest problem is that parents and students don't care anymore.

  • @vzteacher You're taking out your frustration and anger on the wrong people. If you know the value of technology in the classroom, then this video is not talking to you. If you are unable to get it into your classroom, then it is something the school board needs to discuss and realize. It's not saying it's your fault.

  • The Bell Curve; a blunt tool used to support outcomes that are agenda driven. We use the curve in industry, politics, social, and sexual evaluations, but the prime use, or where we begin it's use is in the educational system. In industry, agendas are required, and politics it's necessary, but in education it produces throw away people.

  • Next problem of course, is whose agenda? Is our product a good little patriotic consumer who embraces the myths, and established legends of our society, that you be willing to lay down your life in time of war? Is to love Baseball & Apple Pie, and believe that George Washington never told a lie?

  • We certainly want you to be competitive that's apparent. Go out there and see who can get the most THINGS. That's how we determine the winners, but remember that means that some of you will fail. It's the nature of competition, but if you do fail, you still have a chance to be a good little American, because there's always the military.

  • Great clip. I like the irony of how these children communicate their thoughts, feelings and ambitions very clearly through the primative use of pen on paper.

  • im 14 and i think todays kids are brainwashed by the media and dont care about how lucky they are and whats happening around the world.their so stubborn and it drives me crazy how immature and stupid they are.im glad to be different and i wish i was born earlier

  • @thebestanthe3rd True, with all the managed media, people might as well be brainwashed... I also felt the same way about wanting to be 'born earlier' when I was your age (wow that makes me sound old, lol). I changed my mind about that when I started learning more about the way the world works. Thing is, this is the first time in history when it's technologically possible to provide more than enough for everyone on earth (no joke) Only thing stopping us is our corrupt political/money system

  • What digital kids ALSO need is REAL LIFE experiences. In a recent study, children who played outdoors with others (running, designing their own time and games) laughed 85 times, while the children indoors on the computer or TV laughed 4 times during the same period. We DO need active, engaging education. But to understand, think, and apply information in the "real world" we need to expand experiences with reality. The founders of Google, Wikipedia, and Amazon all went to Montessori schools.

  • I am a grad student that will soon graduate with my Masters in Education with focus on Instructional Leadership. I am not a certified teacher yet, but plan to be in 2012. I am currently taking Integrating Technology into Classroom Curriculum and I love it! I have truly been inspired by this video!!! All educators, from teachers to administrators must see this video! Thank you for creating it!!

  • I am a new teacher at 43. I relish and completely agree that students should use technology whenever possible if it is used appropriately. All to often students, teachers, admin get into trouble using the internet inappropriately. I use technology in my classes whenever possible from imovies, power points, mimio , or computer assists for students.

  • I think I've learned more online than I have in school.

  • I guess I should try learning to speak Chinese. It might help in the future. If only my school had a Chinese language class. Lol

  • Finally, something I can relate to...

  • one of the biggest problems, i think:

we're told to care about something we don't and to stop caring about the things we do, for the sake of a future that has already passed because of a educational system made in the past, for the past.

  • lol stupid children

  • @MegaBEANER1000 lol ur probably a little 12 year old acting like hes 17.....dumbass

  • sad story's like this don't do jack shit if you want to fix a problem do something don't post pictures of ugly children holding up white boards.

  • This video is relevant and necessary, especially after I read some of the comments from people who say the classroom is not the place for technology. I am shocked by this. I am a high school teacher, and I know it is my job to best prepare my students for life after high school. That demands the use of digital tools in the classroom as it will be an expectation in their future careers.

  • As much as I like new technology, I would NEVER change it for a book. I have used computers, digital cameras, and other devices in the classroom; however, every time a computer is turned on, the first thing students do is check their facebook, twitter, or email.. that is so frustrating!!!

I firmly believe students don't learn because they don't have habits of discipline, respect,or hard work,so we, educators, should start teaching them ways to work harder, not try to simplify things for them.

  • @pachina77

So then the challenge becomes, how can I use or integrate Facebook, Twitter and other web 2.0 technology out there into the curriculum so that I can engage students with it and use it as a vehicle to teach? Part of our jobs as educators is to teach students SELF-discipline. We cannot do that by taking away technology. We must teach allow them the technology and teach them to be disciplined and self directed in their responsible use of it.

  • I really love how do you do this short video it's really cool !

  • This is a very powerful message for education, training and higher eduction. The video was made in 2007 new research conducted in 2010 tells us that people aged 8 to 18 years use technology 10.5 hours a day of which 4.25 is watching TV. Lets engage with the digital natives. Stephen Heppell's comment "it is the death of education, but the dawn of learning" is so very true

  • Keep in mind, this video was was made 4 1/2 years ago, and this issue is still not fully appreciated by many classroom teachers (of which I am one). "School is not the place for technological immersion" - what a scary comment! Tech immersion is the world our kids live in. Should we not be preparing them for the world at school? Of course we still teach basics, but many tech skills are becoming "basic" life skills for successful adults.

  • Technology can be useful in the classroom. It is not a bad thing. It has its place in instructon. Technology should not drive instruction but can be use to enhance the lesson. It can be an option for teachers or students if this is a tool that can educate diverse learners in the classroom.

  • While I have several concerns about this video, my first question is: why are they comparing (presumably) American schools to Chinese? I'd rather half the kids not finish high school than live under a repressive regime that disallows freedom of expression.

  • "The children in this video do not seem happy, playful or active. I think this speaks for itself."

Pleaseuse critical thinking when responding to Presented information. They are clearly trying to look disengaged. Turned off to education by traditional chalk and talk and sage on stage behaviors. The video EXPLICITLY says ENGAGE ME.

The capitalization is meant strictly for emphasis not yelling.

  • @mollyfanning1

I work in an office etting and people still write. Im tired of my eyes hurting because people did not learn the basics. I completely understand about technology but the basics are important to have something to build upon. Thats just like saying that an older person can not learn technology. You can do what you want.

  • Playing game..realy sharp up mind.......as shown in video....good

  • This video shares best for the students today

  • 2:03 If you were my son I would take that damn alabama hat of your damn head.

  • for a video about technology there were to many dry erase boards and reading... now I'm bored. Genius! I think I got the message... at least I hope so cuz um, time to exit this video.

  • In some instances technology helps, but over all, the texting and tv and instant messaging people got around without it, it's a distraction. Henceforth technology leads to downfalls of most countries do to the fact that people are glued to screens 24/7. It's o k if you limit it, but most people can't.

  • That was gay.

  • I HATE THIS SCHOOL DETENTION IS MY ROOM HOW MESSED UP IS THAT PLUS I DONT GET TO SEE MY FRIENDS

  • Well im a 25 century learner!!! lol k12 is evil

  • I understood the video was referencing statistics, but the children did not communicate, smile, nor do any physcial activities. My children are "Virtual Kids" and we do fieldtrips, learn new languages, and participate in a plethora of other activities... none of which were shown here. I feel this video, though the intention was good, was not at all realistic and only perpetuated the gap between generations. Look up "mbshus" on YouTube and search for Cameron to see K12 through his eyes.

  • I understood the video was referencing statistics, but the children did not communicate, smile, nor do any physcial activities. • I am a 15 year old freshman. They say our parents have the biggest gap between relating to us the children of the 21st century. Back then they didn't have Google or the internet. we the children of today have all these tools. parents cant relate to their children. so how can u expect teachers to relate to their students?

  • The problem with a lot of adults is the fact that they don't understand how much we communicate and learn to understand through technology. Getting off of the computer is important, but I think more when I'm on it then I do during school. All the time. I solve things and think about things without even realizing it. Don't push down the fact that we don't learn like you do because we are different from you. That's just how it is.

  • I think technology is a great thing. But when do we cross the line in the amount of time we spend on it? I believe that our youth are becoming distracted in a world of screens and forgeting the meaning of being human

  • Congrats! Well done write/producer J. Nesbitt & kudos to all of the students! Message loud clear and w/purpose. Keep up the excellence. ~ rox

  • i mean look at these kids most of them are fat cause they have no friends

  • do you know what this shit does to you your all alone at a house no friends no nothing just shitty work its too fucking easy man grown ups are so fucking stupid some times

  • @nakota1111 , shame on you....your ignorance does you a dis-service. Obviously all your time alone did not teach you anything about literacy, open mindedness, punctuation of human kindness.

Maybe when you grow up a little.

  • Institutions eventually move to stagnation and serve to work mostly for their continued existence. The school is for the teachers, not the students.

If the leftist perspective the video proposes works and makes more people excel at technology, this only decreases our individual freedom and serves to concentrate power away from the bulk-people.

The internet might save society, but see that the internet is caught in autistic communication loops, look at the forums, at the livejournals.

  • Today's kids, teens are stupid! Their parents are too indulgent towards their children! They buy everything they demand but they do bad in school! Now, for a average American teen of any race, to get satisfied. They have a social network, clothing and shoes that is "cool", MUST have an electronic device at all times with unlimited texting, all of that is stupid!

  • @unknowndude941 you're stupid...

  • @Kylemathews1 how thats stupid if i see that fucking crap in my school evreyday! i can barely learn because of their retarded behavior in school! idiot!

  • @Kylemathews1 teens in my school prefer to text to their freinds in school rather than learning in school because the lack of efforcing the rules in schools in this country, this new technology to teach is great. but the fucking technology they have in their pockets is distracting them, sure these little kids are behaving well in grade school but watch the change when they go to high school!! high school drop outs increasing which is bad, money in cellpohne companies is increasing, good!

  • @Kylemathews1 the problem is the government giving jobs in china and giving them the educational information for them to suceed, they are laughing at us americans for our stupidity in schools! while china has a strict government they still learn and get good jobs, but in this country where everything is in your hands like finicial aid, schools that are near you, free learning in schools but we still end up like crap! soon china will become a higher power and we stand there do nothing!

  • What people don't understand is it's not about computers....it's about project based learning. If we engage them, they will focus and want to learn more. My mother used and ink well and I'm very happy for the invention of a pen. Let's embrace inventions which make life easier.

  • so true...this is exactly what I believe!

  • Imagine a 10yr is good with graphic designing.

  • @Powerman20xx I am!! Is that an insult?

  • Is that why China has more honours students?...they're more "engaged"....what a joke. Does a honours student from Chinese spend half their life blogging, gaming and watching mindless television?...I really don't think so.

China has more honours students because they work harder and come from a culture/parents that values education a great deal more.

Yes, more technology is needed in our classrooms, but this type of "engagement" is certainly not the answer.

  • Remember 99% of how we teach is VERBAL 87% of how we learn is VISUAL.. Standing in front of kids lecturing without engaging them in some way can no longer hold their attention.

  • @dmcarty im in k12 and it sucks ass and dick i hate it

  • WOWWWWWW! Cool. I think the best school is the world. Sit outside and observe. Teachers, yes, teach them to think, to observe critically, analyse, etc. A tech class, where kids learn to blog, vlog, MS Office, Photoshop, etc., it ESSENTIAL to today's job market skill set. The first schools were kids sitting under a tree with a yogi of some sort giving them lessons on Karma, etc. Civilization spread from there. What do enzymes have to do with real world problems? BP Oil Spill, GMOs, agribusiness!

  • that touched my soul

ill try to focus on school

  • These are kids of the technology age. They expect everything to be in 0 and 1s.

    Learning is no different.

  • Tests mean nothing. Either a kid is a good cheater, or can memorize thirty answers.

  • @SA1911Operator you are extremely ignorent, only failures in my opinion say that, in the IB program which i am taking at the moment, it doesn't matter if you memorize the book, it wont do you any good. The IB and AP tests are designed to have the students critically analyze situations and answers, for example, in Biology (which is mostly a memorization subject) they would ask you an essay question of maybe "explain how the use of enzymes contribute to real world problem"

  • WE can implement the solution, but hardly anyone outside of those who understand the implications give a damn.

  • Concept is a weak word. We have to show benefits. If I tell ten people that drug A makes cake healthy, they'll be skeptical. But if I show someone losing weight because of cake, they'll be amazed, then you show the method, to enlighten to as to how it works. Then the concept on which it's based should be revealed.

  • Loved the video! So true! As an educator with pressure to score high on Standards based tests, it is easy to make excuses for not incorporating technology into the classroom, but we aren't preparing out students for the future if we choose to omit technology.... We are creating digital stories this year with my 4th grade class and they are getting so much out of it. Make the time, it's well worth it!

  • Guys most of the video responses are random things that doesn't have anything to do with the video, "A Vision Of K-12 Education" NEOTech Edition" is an actual Teacher's Conference DEDICATED to responding this Video. It was held at Akron Ohio. I filmed some of this and Helped make the Video. Please watch. The Teacher in the Video WANTS to let you guys know that they are listening.

    -Fellow Student, Ian

  • I really liked this video. It made me think strongly about my childs educations and weigh out my options and I think I have decided that I will homeschool next year and give it a try. Thanks soo much for this video!

  • challenging!! Teach me to think!

  • I think teachers need to learn to use technology so they are updated and they may be better understood with the students and teenagers, and also to be a day of new inventions!

could all be interesting to use, or have the potential, and that we all communicate around the world

    by lorena Hoyos

  • now days the teenagers spend a lot of time using the tecnology, i think that it is good but also it has a lot of problems, this video was created to invite the teacher to use the tecnology, to be able to do everything using those new inventions, it´s a good offer, to be aware of what is happening in the new world,

also in the future this is going to be the easy way to have comunication with everybody!

    by: Estefania Carvajal

  • absolute bullshit!!!! I had a group of kids today who didn't know what "mundane" meant. If students don't have listening skills, can't write, can't read, have no respect for the past, they will be useless to the workforce. And have you seen the computers and the download speeds in our schools? Pathetic. Smoke some more and go home to your fantasyland

  • @grantcanada1 Ugh! another Ben Steiner!!!! Go an rote learn your times tables then!!!

The most useful stuff I learnt was outside of school and university.

YES I have 2 degrees (Edu PSy and Maths) and an RSA qualified teacher.

I am MCSE/CCNA amongst others and 10 years + teaching exp in Maths, English and Taekwondo.

Teach a child HOW to program video games they INSTANTLY want to learn!!!

    They learn-

How to collaborate on a joint project

Art and Music as well as all the techie stuff!!

  • We cannot ask our kids to power down at the front door of the school. K12 schools are changing, they have to. In order to find a job, create a business or to function in this new world of technology skills are needed. The problem is that many teachers do not have those skills. We teach teachers technology so they can communicate with the kids in a way that they can relate to. Not many years ago farmers said that kids did not need to know how to read. But the world changes.

  • Very great video! I will be using this to incorporate ideas for using technology in the classroom as a project for my educational computer class!

  • The next time your pregnant and want someone to stand up for you on the bus beucase you want to sit down, then dont complain. We are being educated to think its all about MEthese days. People these days are so self centred and it all starts with the mind set displayed in this video. This video says exactly what the youth of today think. Thats why its disjointed and hard to understand the overall point.

  • Please know I have nothing against the suggestion of using technology in the classroom, but lets not place blame where it doesnt belong...

  • "There are more honor students in China than there are people in North America... um NOT because they use technology in their classrooms... it a CULTURE! A mindset, a strong drive to succeed BECAUSE they are raised that way... On the other hand, the sense of entitlement and the "no child left behind" movement is what enabled our children to throw temper tantrums and demand technology, otherwise they wont learn to "think"... what?!

  • @julnsey I see the world when I'm raiding ice crown with my epics and my guild, I'm on top of the world cuz I play WoW!

  • As a teacher I understand the benefits of using technology in the classroom. It provides a different medium for students. It is not a bad thing, and it is often something students today are interested in. Do I think it needs to be in every class? Not at all, but using technology as a tool rather than the focus of a lesson is definitely beneficial.

  • @PaxtonRylie if the school is able to afford it or not.

  • Yes, the world is changing, but it is NOT only our skills we need to work on but our will and ability to feel, think and do – in the 'real' world.

These children are technologically literate – they didn’t learn that at school. School is not the place for technological immersion. This only serves tech companies. Of course technology should be a TOOL in learning, not the be all. The children in this video do not seem happy, playful or active. I think this speaks for itself.

  • @gosiamusica You were shown these children for a few seconds each, holding up a sign. That isn't enough to judge if they're happy and active. It's very likely that whoever created the video asked for them to look serious. Or they were just really bored filming this. I believe that there should be a balance. I prefer typing writing assignments but like real books better than kindle and such. There are things American school are in dire need of, more Technology isn't really one of them.

  • @Nine00, I mean that they are portrayed in the video, not really as children, but caricatures of the statement the adults organising this wish to make. This happens easily when children are used to put forward a concern.

By 'do not seem', I meant 'are being portrayed' in the limited character count I am given here I can not really express myself in full.

I agree with balance; what I see however is the scale tipping the technological way. I am not in America - this is a developed-world phenomena.

  • @gosiamusica I didn't mean to emply that you are American I'm pretty sure the VIDEO is because the title states "K-12" and America/Canada are the only places I know of using that exact system. I don't think every class should have technology involved. Math, I think is better done without it. The limited character count is annoying. The limits are simply too low, people just cannot express themselves fully.

  • @gosiamusica the children in this video were most likely told to look disappointed that their teachers are NOT using this technology in their learning.

  • @gosiamusica Exactly the video speaks for itself....that the kids are not MOTIVATED.

  • I spend at least 72hrs a week on my computer. So what

  • @MonsterLineMovies so go out and see the world!

  • i had to watch this in class today i am in my 2nd year of college to become a teacher and i am learing these new technologys when i went to school we didnt have these technologys we need to tech kids how to think not memorize and that is my goal

  • @evolvedgeek13

Great philosophy and go for it! But, as a 16 year teacher and administrator, let me assure you, Ipods, laptops, and cell phones will not do anything to help children "think." Only a teacher with a solid set of engagement strategies and the ability to personalize the educational experience will do that. I wish you well; it's a great profession!

  • @rubeclone44 thanks :)

  • It's hard to compare the U.S.A, to china.

  • Ewwww I hate eyeballs...DISLIKE

  • I'm all for integrating technology within the classrooms and allowing children to express their creativity but children should have basic knowledge of math, English, and science without always having to rely on Google. Sometimes it's hard to get information in the long term memory bank when you know it's just a click away haha.

  • @legendkillermike I agree, students should have a basic understanding of maths, science english etc. However, technology based learning engages students to learn in a way that previous convential methods, i.e Teacher-centred Instruction. never could. I will admitt there are some draw backs to it, such as information being so widely available on the internet, however there is a plethora of educational programs that do teach the basic needs of a student.

  • too much reading in this video i stopped watching it

  • I think schools should force non-computer illiteracy to pass.

  • School makes me sick... I love learning. I love practicing music and other arts. I know I can't have a custom schooling but I wonder why not? Why can't I skip american history and math? I'm not going to be a math or american history teacher.

  • @Apeshavenotails2 basic math is always good to know

anything above algebra shouldn't be required though.

  • ive gone though years of classrooms staring into a book like a zombie and failing about half the time its not that im lazy i do many hours of volunteer work, i build my own computers and next year i might either be going to MIT or UAT for my higher education but its because my schools have utterly FAILED at getting me and hundreds of my peers engaged in our classes im not the type of student that likes to stare aimlessly into a book im the hands on person schools need to FIX THIS NOW

  • All I have to say k12 Sucks my big sister and I both go to that school and it is the most depressing school ever so I want you to know it sucks and that's all thank for time oh and if you choose k12 you will have no time olny time for your school work

  • @yourockfan1 I found that study the very thing they took out it was what I need.

get a Bible and read it, but hide it, because "they" don't want you to know the truth.

  • To all adults: Teens want to learn, but thousands of schools lost budgets, leading to limits of activities. And 99% of teens would rather take field trips or even go out in the front lawn and have a class rather than sit in a plain room and listen to teachers go on and on. If they're bored in class, that's not being disrespectful. Teens want to learn (most,) but schools lack in creativity, fun, and so on.

  • @Indestructible229 no, its lacking the Bible that they took out. get you want ...while you can.

  • @Indestructible229 i agree I may use some these ideas if you dont mind i am going to school to become a teacher but i want to change how we teach
