@NVanWendy Hi - thanks for your interest. I built the canopy with guns because it looked better. It is more likely that a 'real' version would only have two machine guns but I took liberties with it ! The canopy is painted grey because I'm not much of a one for interior detail and paint all my canopies grey/silver. It also gives a '1940's/1950's' type toy look to the model which is what I want rather than realism.
@whikless Yes I'm quite certain that Airfix still make their version of the aeroplane. The Finnish markings however were not supplied with the kit - I made them myself by looking them up on Google images, printing them on ordinary paper, cutting them out and glueing them on with a Pritt-stick.
@rexbonitas Thats pretty cool. I must try that sometime. Btw, if you want to make rivets (On the subject of paper details) You can make them using the tiny dots on coffee filter paper.
Some nice work..... what do you know about it? Theatre of operations.... ? Squadrons? Number built? The double tail format was the only way to accomodate a four gun turret.... On what missions did this type get used?
Your questions can be answered very briefly... Only one was built, a prototype, with a mock-up turret for test flying. The aircraft was planned to be used as a gun platform to strafe the beaches if the Germans invaded - as the threat of invasion receded the 'plane was put on the back burner never to be seriously considered again.
Only one? Understandably..... who the heck would want two! It's a weird bird to be sure!! Nice touch with the firing gun turret....
My Uncle George was a Lancaster Tail Gunner.... lost on his way back from Peenemunde - the Top Secret V2 Rocket Development Facility. He crewed a Mk2 Lanc with Bristol Hercules Radial Engines. A Brit in a Canadian Sqdn.
Really love what you did with the epoxy. Any idea how much more weight the turret added to the real plane? I wonder if they could have fitted a spicier engine to the Lysander, or perhaps by that point they were being replaced by early mustangs.
interesting that today I was wandering thru the net and saw a pic like this and I just assumed it was one of those crazy things that come up...now basicm will have to make one as well LOL :)
Brilliant!! You can buy a resin kit, that goes with the Revell (ex. Matchbox) Lysander, but it's very expensive.. I may just have a go at this one day.. resin casting apart! I think I can get a turret somewhere.,., :) Really good and informative video.. :)
BUT IS IT ART ??

You rteplied to someone, correctly, that it was a mockup turret. So why the four machine guns? Therer weren't any on the only one built.
Second question: why is the canopy grey?
8-)

@rexbonitas I see. I bet you had a whole bunch of those Dinky Toy airplanes when you were a kid, no? ;-)

Do you know if the Airfix model is still in production, and if it still has Finnish decals?
Thanks.
I really like your videos. They're made with a certain charm and effort that most model vids don't have.

Why haven't I already commented on this ? :)
