  • do i need to cover my pile for the rain or not?

I also forgot to add dirt, is that bad?

  • f'king dog XD lol 6:12!

  • Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Good luck.

  • AWW..... that was scary when she came out of the leaf pile.... :D :D teehee.

  • will it hurt to put popcorn tree leaves in it, even though it may contain popcorn tree seeds. I plan to go over the leaves with a mulching mower and catch the stuff in a bag before I put it in a compost pile. Will it hurt to use popcorn tree leaves, even with the seeds??

  • Great video! I've found human urine to be an excellent and free source of nitrogen.

  • when it rain will it effect the heat of the compost

  • well if its wet rain it just might, but if its of the dry variety it will have no effect,

  • I've been looking for this video for 2 weeks...and now that I've found it, I know what to change when I turn my leaf piles...Thank you

  • cute video. bizarre composting method. steer manure is a much cheaper source of nitrogen, typically free, to start the pile. you don't need to waste energy /money on the hog/wire. you can just pile it up, and cover it with a tarp. you only need 'layers' if you're not going to turn the compost. get your hubby to turn- 21 days to compost max. grass clipping are great. your alfalfa pellets have more chemicals than grass clippings. theromophilic process renders it harmless.

  • Great video!

  • isnt charcoal and wood ash the same thing?

  • Compost plays such an important role in a happy garden. Great informative video on building a compost bin. Love that black gold!

  • Is there an alternative to using rabbit food? I have everything mentioned on hand, but rabbit food and I don't want to buy it if I don't have too.

    Yes, I'm cheap, lol.

  • @HikariHime29 i wouldnt buy rabbit food either, if im gonna spend money on soil id just go buy some from lowes. but just put in leaves and anything thats green plants or weeds.

  • @HikariHime29 - I would use grass clippings

  • @jamesc426,

That is what a neighbor said too. I head that grass will just clump up and not cook. I guess it is worth a try since my current compost pile is just a pile of dry leaves at the moment! lol

  • this lady is kinda cookey... In a fun way. lol

  • Nice video on composting pile. I am showing this to the kids as we are planning a compost bin, or maybe just a pile for next year to use in the garden and flowers.

  • would you need to cover the pile because of rain?

  • I liked the part where you pop your head from the leaf pile.

  • i cracked up when your head popped out of that pile of leaves!

  • I'll have to get some rabbit food. I never thought of adding that to my compost pile.

  • that was so funny how you popped out of the leaves!

  • this was the best how to video yet. thanx a bunch

    Luv Jenn-

  • and here's hoping you "smell like dirt" lol

  • You have put together an informative and entertaining video - very professional!! Thnks

  • thank you! good luck with your compost pile!

  • fantastic!

  • i used leafs and horse manure is that good but ity hasnet heated up yet

  • instead of the rabbit food, just use old table scraps (like fruits and vegetables)

  • I use grass clippings from my park distirct. They use no chemical, and they collect them for me. I mix well so the do not smell.

  • glove is very important for women right?

  • best strait up info on how to get started especially for newbies like myself ...ive been trying 2 become more "green" and i just finished my cage today so tomorrow i start to pile up the fixins'

  • Thanks that was the most informative video i have seen , What is your oppinion on the compost tumblers out there? are they worth the money?

  • great video

  • Rabbit food? is it organic? I mean...most commercial animal feeds contain hormones and God knows what else. Why not add green leaves instead? Grass clippings are excellent to use because they contain lots of moisture and can save us some bucks on water bills. In order for clippings not to smell (?), spread thing layers of clippings over dry leaves then keep building up the pile. Repeat. Turn pile more often, add water only when necessary. Protect pile from rain so it doesn't wash off good juices

  • I love your style Carol!

  • I have always wanted to start my own compost. Thanks for a good start..

  • this is the best video so far that I could find for composting, can't wait for the video that shows me how to turn and use the compost.

  • That was an awesome presentation! Just wanted you to know the charisma you bring was appreciated, and interesting new info!

  • Arrgh! Wasn't expecting you to pop out of the leaf pile LOL!!!

I have a NWF habitat myself. I use open bin composting myself.

    Thanks for showing.
