I love Petra, but this song bothers me to the quick. It goes against every experience I have ever known in how and why Jesus gave his own life for my me. I have known family friends who have taken their own lives for what ever reason they saw fit to do so. It seems to me, in this song, the family should have told "Annie" they loved her and cared more often, not that Jesus does. "Annie", in her heart, may have already known of Jesus's love, and maybe, that's why she left...to be with Him.

It took me too long to figure out that looking at Christians wasn't the answer, since many (not all) were hypocrites - it was finding a personal relationship with Jesus. That has made all the difference in the world....

My life's a total fuck up from my real parent's and my adopted parent's and Christian people... and been on my own sence i was 16... I had friends who were thinking about commiting suicide but i told them it wasnt the answer i told them about christ and now they live happily. the bible says that Christ will be a father to the fatherless and in psalms27:10 it says"though my mother and father forsake me, the lord will recieve me"
Some 24 years ago--this song, along with many others helped me grasp the beginning of what would become my vision for Christian Music as an evangelism tool......A quest that had me three times take positions in Radio stations that ultimately, ended up pretty much being wheel spinning.....still get a lump in my throat as i hear it again today.
i think this song is 2 fold... i have 3 daughters, it reminds me that i can NOT take them for granted. And that faith in Jesus can help you through any situation.

well, im sure a lot of it was in the way they presented it. they took the message and twisted it and perverted it and spoon fed us their interpretation.
This song is so powerful. I delt with this more time then once. You be surprise on how many people deal with suicide, This song is not just about drugs. We as Christian and just People have to open our eye... We can tell when someone hurting... we should reach out and show them someone cares. Someone more powerful then us.. My friend commited suicide, and for a long time I felt guilty; I couldv'e done something. We did the rock n' roll thing and what goes with it. We talked about God, but I guess not enough.

But it was basically the same: suicide, mourning, etc. i was highly highly offended! what a horrible thing to say to children. "If they don't believe, we'll GUILT them into believing!" Is that better or worse than scaring them into believing? I believe in God but I think people should be careful how they go about cramming it down an impressionable child's mouth. Stuff like that can make a kid grow up resenting God!
So what are you saying? Do you believe that children cannot fathom guilt? It was Church Camp, did you want them to lie to you and tell you that there's no reason for guilt, no reason for sorrow, and that Jesus didn't need to die for our irreparably lost souls to be saved?
its not the children who should be guilty, it was those around annie. i first heard this when i wad 16 now my girl is 16 and we are fighting for her life agaiasnt drugs etc. this song is a warning to those around childern
Did you just watch part of the video, and then commented on the song, or did you watch it all the way through? There are two messages here. One is that a girl took her own life because no one paid attention to her. The second message is that there is someone who cares for us when no one else will. And that someone will always be there, no matter what, and to always have hope that tomorrow is a better day. And usually tomorrow is a better day.
Suicide is a very real thing. I do not believe that they were trying to "guilt" you into believing in Christ. Sounds like they were trying to warn you against committing suicide and turning to the only One Who can forgive you of your sins and relying upon Him to guide you throughout your life. Suicide is a horrible thing because it leaves only pain and grief to those who know that person. I know, because a friend of mine killed himself, and I recall that it was the most horrible feeling.

While certainly your analysis of the song's intent (trying to stop suicide) is a fair statement about the general idea of this tune, I think the ultimate point to the tune comes at the end -- Annie might be sitting next to you (at work, school, ballgame) and YOU can tell her that Jesus loves her, or one day you might wish you could.
Great compilation of pictures. I still tear up when I hear this song. It makes you stop and think about all those around... You just never know what someone is going through. Never miss the chance to share Jesus! It may be their last chance....

Continuing my last post, I remember feeling sick to my stomach when I heard the tragic news, and not sleeping because I was freaked out about it.
I should correct myself. They were trying to warn you against suicide, and were encouraging you to turn your life over to Christ.
