I'm hoping to save up for a XL2, cos I can't afford the HD equlivent, but own a Xm2, love this video and it's making me more excited to use the XL2 :)
Ok Im new at making films and cameras and stuff and on ebay I think found this camera Canon XL2 for only 99.95 new. I'd like to know if that is the actual camera because it also says somthing about it including a drum repair part or somthing. I'd like to know before I buy.
well, I edited it in fcp. DV transfering into HD? what would be the sense of that? DV is 768 x 576 and Full HD is 1920 x 1080. to transfer that would mean to pump up the stuff.... would look like shit! this is the digitilized original material. just caputered the stuff from tape, cut out some crap, put some music in and done.... the vid was just to show what material you get quick and dirty from that cam...! and anyway... scanning/onlining for a 2min youtube-flic? who would do that?
@brunocrazymuffins that's totally true. it's wired, that you can get a better result with an DSLR HD-Camera than with an 8 year old DV-camera-model wich records on mini-DV-Tape, issn't it? thank's for your great comment!
@TheLeavingkind Just a question how did you edit it all :) And well maybe you could of got better result by transferring in to at HD format ? no ? like transferring photo film 32mm on a scanner the more dpi the better =D but then there isnt nothing like the original :) to be honest i would love to see the raw files from the camera =)
really awesome footage you have there ;) just wondering what were the settings in the xl2, since you said there was no colour correction ;) its just i'm going to shot a commercial for my college and this was the type of colours i wanted to obtain! If you can i would really appreciate the help
@Kr1m1nalZzZ first of all: the light (early morning hours in summer) plays an important role here for the colours. what you can do to get a warmer look on your original footage if you don`t have this kind of light-situation is the setting of your white-balance. put a slightly blue folie abouve your white you use for the white balance = the picture will get a warmer look, with a red foile it will get a colder look! the best: original white from the set and do the look in post!!!
@TheBoaConstrictor95 if there's xlr-input/output at the cam and you wanna have high-quality sound go for an Sennheiser MKH 416! It's the standard broadcast mic, at least here in germany (quite exansive, professionel mic). if you're goin' to do internet videos most of the time a mic by "rode" should be allright! they're way cheaper and have good sound performance.
@TheLeavingkind It's nice, but a bit pricey. I'm thinking about going with the Sony HVR Z5U because, according to the videos I've seen, the video quality is a lot better. Also, it comes with a mic. I appreciate it, though. Thank you.
@TheBoaConstrictor95 you can choose between 24 / 25 /29.97! and its not an HD-Camera, it's DV. if you wanna shoot high quality slow motions with lots of fps I recomand an canon D5 Mark II. It's takin' way more fps! but the standard lenses from the xl2 are just awesume!

Thanks. The Canon D5 Mark II is good, but the other one I was looking at is the Canon XH-A1S HD. What kind of microphone should I get?
