wtf... i have a 06 cobalt lt nd i have no governor. i top mine out at 125 exactly.. my speedometer says 140.. i didnt know some had governors

Thats strange bro I have an 06 Cobalt LT and I got up to 120 and my car still was going strong. I dont know maybe I was close to getting to the govenor. My speedometer goes up 140 thats strange lol!!

mines a 06 ss 2.4L automatic, does over 140mph and the governor doesnt seem kick in. Granted i got the car used and I dont know what the previous owner has done on it

i got a 4dr cobalt LT and it cuts out a t 105mph in 4th gear. so u know it can do 130mph if not more

We have a 2008 Lt Coupe and had it up to 187km/hr (117.5 mph) and the governor still hadn't kicked in...that little engine will chug along and no rattles...love that Chevy Power!!!

What many of you need to understand is the speed at which your engine cuts out has nothing to do with the engine. The ECM controls all that. An engineer at GM says 105 mph is the max and when the ECM reads 105 mph, it cuts fueling. So adding a cold air intake or cat-back won't change the max speed. The only way to go faster is to reflash the ECM. Also the governor that does this isn't the redline or engine speed governor it is the max vehicle speed governor.

My friend has a stock 2007 lt coupe 5sp and it doesnt limit until 120mph+ in 4th gear.

As compared to what.  A lancer EVO or a civic. Because last time I checked chevy owned the highest horespower stock. Can't really call them underpowered for what they are. (Civic - 113 HP, Tiburon 138 HP, Cobalt 155HP) American Power :)

100MPR at under 4000RPM more like 3650 with auto LS you can reprogram the computer to take off the governor.

haah your dumb.. if your car comes with HUB caps.. it cuts out at 105.. because the tires are not rated for any higher... if you have the ALUM alloy wheels.. it cuts out around 125.. i've been up to 125.. but engine didn't cut out... i jsut got paranoid.. but it is suppose to cut out there... it depends on what you got.

I've done 110 and the engine cuts down the power... so all the sudden it begins to slow down.
