  • what grafic card do you have?

  • Good review. You kinda sound like Forest Whitaker!

  • @xyz98741 re: 'Wifi cards do not even work out of the box' half of mine just worked and the other half, i just ran a little app and told it which which family they belong to. i received the occasional box of IT junk from offices in the city. i got ten bucks for each little item because i knew that i could demonstrate it working.

  • She's fresh *FRESH* exciting. *duh duh duh duh dun* xD

  • do you need virus scan for linux? do you have to worry about spyware of any of that crap when you use this OS?

  • @ebutuou123 nope, cuz 90% of people uses windows so no one even thinks about linux.and i'v been using linux for 3months and it didnt even do something weird, linux is behaved windows is bad and a fatty kid lol

  • @ebutuou123 i have used linux for over 10 years and have never used an antivirus. for us, antivirus is for protecting windows users, (but i stopped supporting windows a few years ago. it was wasting too much of my time, even though i WAS charging by the hour).

  • end windows games....??? can you play :>

  • An excellent and informative review, thank you homie!

  • Linux mint looks great, I love the colour scheme, but I think i'll just stick to my UBUNTU Linux Karmic Koala 9x ^^

  • lol pride and hopeless life....

  • but.. it can't download anything...

  • @DarkRainyDay What do you mean by that?

  • like the way you drop the f and s bombs in the review. people should start doing that more often.

  • for me, it's the next best thing to ubuntu - but it's all a giant matter of taste.

  • Linux Mint is one of the best IMO. It looks sleek, polished, and professional with a cool color scheme of black/dark green. And it doesn't look cartoonish or plain bland like other Ubuntus.

Mint should be Linux's flagship distribution.

  • @FortitudeOfHeaven I agree. I feel more at home with Linux Mint.

But Ubuntu runs the same thing. It just depends on what you prefer.

  • compiz fusion?

  • CAN IT RUN CS OR LEFT 4 DEAD =D?

  • @Commander967 yes

  • @Commander967 It can with a program called WINE. But there is issues to be worked out. So far its the Frames Per Second or FPS is in around 20 to 30Fps where as windows can do better like in the 60's to 80's

Most games made for direct X 9.0 or older work just fine.

It can run CS and CSS just fine unless your in a zombie mod server with 32 or more people.

  • @jimmy101112000 can WINE run WoW?

  • @cogley2 It sure can. I done this with the Burning crusade awhile back. From what I read you can now run WoW without adding a option in the config.wtf file which was SET gxApi "opengl"

I recommend you try it without putting the SET gxApi "opengl" in config.wtf. If it has an issue put that command in config.wtf open it with notepad. You should just be able to run WoW from windows filesystem drive or external drive with WoW on it without issues provided you have WINE installed.

  • @cogley2

It sure runs WoW on my Suse/wine .. and the game runs even better .. and Cataclysm-launcher also works as it should :)

  • @Commander967 Yes CS 1.6 in open GL mode is great CSS older version just fine. The CSS with achievements the FPS is low, L4d I read its just fine. L4d2 is lacking FPS and some bugs.

  • I bought a broken totally dead laptop for 30 dollars, installed mint linux on it and it's working perfectly. Now the guy who sold it to me wants it back.

  • honestly Linux seriously rips off Windows

  • @TheDisturbedOne752 What do you think Linux ripped off of Windows?

  • @TheDisturbedOne752

No its not a ripoff its a different code doing the same thing, there are many car manufacturers and all cars move.

  • @TheDisturbedOne752 *extreme facepalm*

  • What's Linux Mint? . It comes with all the things you don't have to install? like COdecs than Ubuntu? . And less bugs? and what do you mean for New Users?

  • Cool man, dude grab a bucket of water and through it at your monitor...your cursor is on fire!

  • @pitcheroz

    He already tried. Dang...

  • how old are you?

  • I just downloaded the latest 64 bit distro kde and it is the best linux distro and more stable than ubuntu.I am keeping this one.

  • @MrTabby5000 I wonder how they make it more stable than Ubuntu. That is weird that Linux Mint is, supposedly, more stable than Ubuntu even though Linux Mint is exactly like Ubuntu except for a few packages.

  • @MrRevolutionary101 Thanks...

  • @oLACHESIS No problem

  • How many versions of Linux is there?

  • To many to ever use

  • Which one do you recommend?

  • Any Ubuntu Variation, Debian, Mint Linux, Beryl, Gentoo.

If you really want to you could use Hannah Montana Linux :p

  • I've used them all, their all about the same. I'd use mint if your new to Linux and you have a wireless setup

  • @oLACHESISo I suggest Ubuntu. Linux Mint is Ubuntu with a few extra packages that you can get with Ubuntu. Also Ubuntu has a large community and tons of documentation to help you with Ubuntu, if you have any questions about it.

  • There are so many to choose from but I agree with this poster. Linux Mint has everything a beginner will need. - I have used Fedora for a very long time, it was hard to let that go until Ubuntu and those like it (e.g. Linux Mint) hit the scene. This and Ubuntu will be the Linux of tomorrow period.

  • @oLACHESISo

    Plenty Versions Of linux.

sometimes i think it is a bad thingy!

  • @mimo1992 I am a Linux user myself and I totally agree. Linux developers are really anti-standard and that is one of the things that prevent this great OS from being fully adopted by the public. It is a sad thing.

  • m'kay

  • Looks great! I would install all those codecs eventually anyway, so I think its a good thing :)

  • What I know is that Linux security is much more better than windows security (no comparison)......Am gonna try and install Linux mint on my Compaq presario CQ60 , will dual boot work?.....I made a big fucking mistake when I bought this fucking trash piece of shit machine. am gonna replace it soon. I really miss the dos based PCs

  • @chicagoballs1 you miss the DOS pc's? REALLY?

  • @xpguardian yeah actually I kinna do miss dos pc's.

  • Will it play MP3 right out of the box?

  • @dancetotunes YEs and it plays other formats without needed extra software.

  • I´m German sorry

  • where did you downloaded your cursor ?

  • Comment removed

  • Is it necessary to enable the Firewall? I keep reading that as long as your behind a router, then it isn't necessary.

  • I love linuxmint

  • Mint is an abomination for including parental controls which serve to restrict the free exchange of knowledge and stifle free speech. Censorship on the basis of socially constructed authority is censorship just the same and that is contrary to everything "free" stands for.

  • your so fucking stupid every mint video I go to ur retarded ass is there typing dumb shit if mint bothers u that much go build ur own OS from source!

    aite dumbass

first off fuck u becuz u obviously aint doing nothing to improve mint(wich is awesome and doesnt need an ass fag like u) and secondly go fuck ur self for dissing shit u never contributed to.

Go to any mint video and you'll find this 4yr old bitching. NOBODY PUT A FUCKING GUN TO UR HEAD AND FORCED U 2 WATCH/DL THIS DISTRO ASSHOLE

  • A perfect demonstration of the Mint IQ

  • It's amazing that you have the nerve to call me a 4 yr old yet type and talk like that. Can't you at least pretend to be on my level?

  • Mint didn't build an OS from source, because most of what Mint consists of is Ubuntu + GNU software on top of the linux kernel.

  • Mint stands for censorship, control and restriction because that's what is built into Mint. It purports to be "free" but is anti-freedom. Free means freedom, but Mint means control. To encourage censorship on linux is fundamentally wrong. The only way to improve Mint would be to oust it's creator but obviously that isn't happening since it's his project so why the hell would i contribute to an distribution that stands for everything that i am against? That wouldn't be quite logical now would it?

  • your just mad cause you cant watch gay porn

do like the old timers and get national geographic.

  • at 2:00 when you explaneded that there is no check boxes, i known its irritating but still. But needs 5 Internet Broweser installed or 6 Email Clients??

  • damn i see mrtabby5000 is getting a lot of hate lol......i remember the first time i tried Linux...didn't really work for me ether till i took to the time to try again.. and find a distro that works for me.and now i love it....i barely use windows since im using a dual boot...i just feel more comfortable with Linux then windows...

  • the check boxes arent that big of a deal. I barely ever use that application anyway

  • if your lookin for a great stable GUI then this is it if your lookin for a more efficient OS ...nothing will ever beat command line OS's

  • Command lines are ancient history.who want to type crap in a terminal window? Most computer users cant type, they just type on finger at a time.

  • @MrTabby5000 Command lines may be ancient history, but they are the most stable, Not to mention its so easy to hack GUI OS's like Windows and Mac with simple command lines. I agree about the 1 finger at a time though

  • Who want to go through the hassle of learning command lines when windows does it for you?

  • @MrTabby5000 Hackers and Networkers =D

  • The average computer user doesnt, which is the majority of users. The majority of user just want the web.

  • @MrTabby5000 then go get a stupid mac or windows PC linux is for people that have more than just a "basic" knowledge of technology

  • the linux developers are sure keeping it that way.

  • @MrTabby5000 Wow... lol nice Laptop with Vista XD

  • At least it works with wifi. I tried, mint, ubuntu and debian, none work with my wifi,I gave up.

  • @MrTabby5000 ...see like i said before Linux is For People that have more than just a "Basic" Knowledge you wouldv known that Ubuntu and mint support wifi but you have to customly type your network name and encryption key into the wireless detection software. Not to mention you probably didnt activate it on ubuntu or let alone get its driver

  • Im not looking for hours for anything,Its quicker putting windows back on,the developers of linux isnt making it easy to switch to any distro of linux.Except for the oems on dell computers.

  • @MrTabby5000 then linux is not for you its for smart people.

  • Not its only for servers, not the desktop. With servers youj set it up and leave it alone.Servers have minimal human input as compared to pcs.

  • @MrTabby5000 No each distro serves a purpose but majority of linux requires knowledge no matter what the distro is. your referring to server linux distros like apache and such

  • @MrTabby5000 funny thing is theyre all debian distros, have you tryed a none debian distro they may work

  • Tried opensuse on one of my three computers and it does work decent.but the ati drivers don't contain a brightness control, and because of that there is eye strain.

    Other than that,its fine.

  • If you have an Fn key try Fn + f7 and Fn + f8. Also if you right click on the taskbar you should have an option to add a brightness control to it. Otherwise xgamma may suffice......

But the fact that you don't want to use the terminal means linux is the wrong OS for you. If you want unix without the geekiness go with Mac OS X instead.

  • None for the ati drivers,no brightness control. The brightness is hurting my eyes, think Im going back to windows.

  • What package did you download to make your cursor glow like that?

  • It's not a package, he used the thing in Compiz. It's supposed to be 3 things floating around your mouse, but if you lower the radius to the minimum, it stays on your mouse.

  • download compiz config settings manager and look for the option 'show cursor'. In that, change the radius to whteva you want and ur done :D

  • It's called Compiz Settings Manager. You can install the cube to! And edit actually everything.

  • I would have given you 4 stars but because of all this cussing, I gave you 5. Well done!

  • Is the default Firewall, GUFW, any good or would it be wise to install Firestarter?

  • it does the job and its easy to manage

  • I take it, you're referring to GUFW.

  • actualy gufw and firestarter are bouth just frontends to iptables making it easy to manage it

  • Excellent, thanks for your information.

  • I love mint

  • When i try to boot this it says bootmgr is missing.

  • how do i install firefox 3.6? when i use the command line in terminal it won't let add my password.please advise.

  • it probably is accepting your password. It doesnt show up, just hit enter when youre done entering

  • call me old school but i like inputting the root sudo cmds to get all plugins and codecs...im on fedora 11 but lm7 does have a nice look to it

  • What about the wireless connection? Does it work? Thanks!

  • as far as i know for some netbooks you need to download drivers for tour wireless

  • Mostly out of the box ;-)

  • actually, i was able to boot off the linux mint 7 disc that I made and log into the internet through my wireless router. However I still dont' have the balls to replace my XP laptop with linux.

  • dont, unless you really are good at using all the functions of Linux. If you really want it, just use wubi to install any version of ubuntu as an application that works just like normal linux but can be uninstalled from windows and hassle-less.

  • or just dual boot

  • lol i did it! :)

  • install with dual boot

  • absolutely works.vista and win7 didn't even have a driver for my common linksys wusb54g adapter! lm7 works right out of the box has drivers for everything.only driver i downloaded was a graphics driver.much better system than windows crap.

  • what do you use to record?

  • I'm gonna stick to windows till linux will get more developed.

I used ubuntu and it was really nice to work with it was extremely fast it could load some of my applications but still i am a kind of junior game designer and i can't run it in wine on ubuntu or mint somehow it don't care but i actually was happy that i made a back-up of windows xp.

Anyways great os great and fresh but still it has to catch on with others ;-)

  • On My P.C. I had Ubuntu, then went to Fedora ( but ran into a prob with Fedora with the network card not being recognized ) so I saw this vid and looked into Mint myself and decided to get it.

Mint is Ubuntu done right. Simply because it is alot easier to use, install and uninstall is allowed without having to go into synaptic ( I could remove FF without messing up the OS like Ubuntu ) which was a big plus.

Everyone should use this over Ubuntu AND... My Webcam works \o/ (on Ubuntu it didn't)

  • LMFAO your fucking epic man.. !!! lol "i dont remember the fucking thing" lol

  • you had me at that xchat thing....i think im gonna change to mint from ubuntu...:D thx for your video

  • sounds like a douche okay? okay? okay?

  • Dude, you are hilarious.

  • "... and mint backup if you want to backup your shit..."

hilarious, why would i want to backup my shit? pun intended.

    get it? ah!

  • And nobody laughs

  • i have gloria on my laptop and i admit! shes fresh, hot, sexy and best of all . . . SHES FREE!

    DAMN I LUV LINUX

  • Mint looks pretty sweet :) I'm on Ubuntu at the moment but I have been looking at alternatives...

By the way, those cool Compiz effects you have on there - are they the default ones or did you have to set them up specifically? They are cool :)

  • i set it up since is for a screencast purpose

  • ah cool :)

    Looks wicked :)

  • good video man. Been using ubuntu for a while now but looking for something new.

  • linux is great when windows goes wrong :D

  • It looks nice, but I like ubuntu and there is a reason ubuntu doesn't have all that stuff the point of Linux was to keep the OS lite every time they add more and more UI buttons and crap in they help the noobs sure, but it makes a fatter OS. This is making it less like linux and more like windows. The cool thing about Linux has always been it is small and can be installed on old PC.

  • Ubuntu is FAT and bloated already, so adding some of the mint features doesn't really impact it. Install DSL or PuppyLinux if you want lean and mean.

  • but what is "Linux" supposed to be like? Linux can be whatever you want, Linux is just a kernel and these are just open source operating systems, they can be as much or as little like Windows as you want.

  • The cool thing about Linux is that it can be whatever you want it to be, if you want small and legacy compatible why would you use Ubuntu? puppy, dsl & knoppix are just a few choices that are more for that. I use fedora/redhat for work but for home it's always ubuntu and for new converts Mint is top choice, so while I respect your choice of distro I disagree with the reasons you gave for Ubuntu over Mint.

  • Most Programs if you hold control you can select more than one thing if thats true, it should need check boxes... But I haven't used it..

  • can anyone help me? im dual booting vista with Linux on an old pc.

but i have an nvidia gforce 6100 and i dl the driver for it for Linux but Linux wont accept/read it please help me as the resolution is extremely annoying.

  • if he knows so much why doesn't he add it himself . go back to windoze stop crying

  • DKgriffith75 , shutup you fag why dont you go fucking back to macs pussy ass bitch i hate bitchs lik U fags !

  • great video .

  • before you put linux on your computer did you have windows vista on your computer

  • Mint is really great. I installed it beside windows. Could anyone tell me what's the name of the taskbar/dock that looks like the osx one?

  • cairo dock

  • it is called avant navigator or avant window navigator one of them

  • I installed this today and it turns out that mint has a bu which won't allow me to connect to my hidden network. There was no workaround so I was forced to reinstall ubuntu :(.

  • SHIT

You just can't say it enough lol

  • mkey :D

  • This is a pretty nice and clean version, I am a Debian/Ubuntu user and had some problems configuring hardware (custom out of stuff hard to find drivers for) this distro make a lot of stuff easier, and the Visual component is very atractive as well. As fare as Repository adding goes, it really does not make a difference if i use the sudo nano command in shell or trough desktop software... Overall i think this distro deserves a 9 out of 10.

  • I can't believe I'm online watching a youtube video with an OS that hasn't been installed. Which btw is Linux Mint 7 Gloria. :S these guys are genius for creating the live CD feature. I'm sold xD

  • Hi there,

What screen recording software did you use for this video? I'm new to linux and would like to know ;)

    Thank you.

  • recordmydesktop

  • Thank you.

  • linux mint askes me for a username and password when i havnt made one

  • How is this distro compared to SimplyMepis? And does Wine work better with this distro? I know there's different versions of Wine, that's why I'm asking.

  • maybe it's because I haven't slept in a day but the swearing made me lol.

I think all OS reviews should have this much foul language... you need to review Windows 7 or something

  • funny how u go to few of my videos and tell me what to do. Trying convert me cuz u dont like the way i do things? Whos the adult here then? Crying about shits u cant control. U fucking moron. Get the fuck out of here if u cant handle it.

  • Maybe he doesn't have any children, maybe he does and he worries about more important things like drugs and violence and doesn't care if they use words that have been part of language for thousands of years. Or maybe he had kids and they passed away, you insensitive clod! Go preach somewhere else.

  • Good review, though please stop swearing. XD

  • meh who cars about his swearing its a solid review i could care less xD

  • You're hilarious!! I loved the video. I'm subscribing now...

  • linux mint is a lot more user friendly then ubuntu

i like linux mint better then ubuntu as of now since i never had a problem with linux mint i am having problems with ubuntu ; /

  • i might try this if your right because ive always had video drivers with ubuntu and always end up switching back to xp.

  • btw i love your swearing...

ps ubuntu took the control center idea in 9.10 =D

    Bye

  • Go Linux !

  • your Hilarius dude, make more videos like this

  • If I switch to linux mint......will programs like yahoo messenger and winamp work on it?

  • You can use alternate programs such as Pidgin to run your IM programs, its just as good, if not better than Yahoo.

And google WINE to see if WinAmp can run on it...which it should

  • thanks! one more question: is it worth switching from xp to linux? is linux safer?

  • Linux is alot safer than XP, but it depends, some people can switch and never look back.

I suggest dual booting, i actually installed Linux Mint 7 this morning along side windows xp.

Its very simple to dual boot.

Just try Mint 7 on a 7GB partition so you can have the best of both worlds. and if you're in love with it, then you can switch.

    Hope this is helpful..

  • that's what I'm gonna do....a dual boot :) Thanx for the help

  • hell yeah

  • gostei dele :D

  • Again: ultamatix 143 Programs / Games currently , Just a few of the many, many games included in Ubuntu Ulimate Gamers Edition. Even though games appear to be running in a window they are all actually full screen 1680 X 1050 Widescreen.

  • Nice video but youcan try ubuntu ultimate 2.2 and check the ultimatix , you want a software not kids staff. good luck.

  • oh man, fucking love your narration! hilarious yet still know exactly what you mean by "make their own shit" and "what the fuck man, how do i do these things?" as i say this all the time when installing distros! keep doing what you're doing and how you're doing it! 5/5 + fave

  • Great distro Linux Mint, my OS actually! Work really well, faster and really hot theme!

  • moved from ubuntu to mint and i love it.

  • same. i wasnt really happy with ubuntu i felt like of all the distros... old people who dont understand comps would use it... and then be more confused
