@XxTooBBiixX in the show, there are four elements that people can bend, Earth, Air, Fire (lightning is a part of fire, which I'm assuming is flash), and Water (Ice is a part of water bending) . Since Toph is blind and the most amazing earth bender on the plant she mastered the art of Metal bending. Also much later in the series Katara learns to Blood bend and pull water directly out of trees, plants, and if it's humid enough, air. Sand and Wood had never been bent in the series.

Toph sand bent on the beach at Ember Island, the sand benders kidnapped Appa in The Library, where Toph also sand bent a little to try and fight them off.
