holy shit this video reminds me of everything that is horrible about DJing a wedding. The macarena, chicken dance, and the hokey pokey? But weddings pay the best by far.
wow by looking at those folks, i would know it was going to be a boring wedding, cause you have to set your music to the age etc, once the liquor hits thats when the fun starts.
Why use a truss when it will be cast away five feet from you? The advantage of a truss is to span over your work area where conventional tripods wouldn't work as well. It obviously doesnt matter at this point, but next time you have a gig like that remove the truss and maybe use your tripods with the horizontal bars for left and right lighting groups. If you need to use two dimmers or use more extensions, it would pay off.
best tip is to use a haze machine for wedding situations as it doesn't make the room foggy and stuffy and is hardly noticeable but yet it show the light beams from lighting effects just as good as fog.
I'm just curious about what lights you are using. Also, when you get the large groups of people out on the floor dancing do you announce that a group dance song is coming next or do you just let them figure it out for themselves and dance if they want?
hey don't take this wrong, but don't you think that you should emcee a bit more? don't be a record player, but instead be a performer. not saying that you should be a cheesy game show host dj, but i felt that you owed it to your bride and groom to take more control of the reigns.
good suggestiong about knowing where your key people are sitting and getting with the photographer early. i like to call them ahead of time if it is someone i don't work with on the regular.
I dunno Bobby - I reckon it depends on your audience. Ask the Bride & Groom what they want! Personally, there isn't anything I find more annoying than blabbering DJs! Especially if it means talking over the funky bass line at the beginning, or end of a song.
i disagree....u are getting paid to set the tempo, and make sure that the focus is on the bride and groom. during the cake cutting, a majority of the room weren't even paying attention to what was going on. at the very least, spin some mood music that will get people in the mood to move! it is a party!!!
Just curious, but what do you suggest be played? I went to look at your videos and none of them feature music, so I'm thinking instead of being negatively critical, why not be more constructive? Offer some alternatives. Helping each other in an effort to make us all better at what we do only gives a better OVERALL impression of the importance of the mobile jock.
cds or laptop presonal choice why call each other we need to look after each other in this game i like what you have done setup looks nice and compact dont worry about the kids who think they are djs fighting on here they dont have a life
I agree with you. i know so many dj's that are so much better than me but the funny thing is is guys like us arent all talk. we get out and get stuff done. One problem ive found with computers is that it is impossible to keep steady music because there is no fade. so its like stop and go and stop and go
Hey! I mix using a laptop and havent found any problems with keeping steady music. Look into PCDJ or other software DJ programs out there and be able to crossfade between two virtual players, utilze built in effects,DMX control, and most of all, not having to lug cases of CDs. However, the downside is that you need to digitize your entire collection to MP3 but its worth it!!!
they incorporate old technology in with way more advanced gear today and spinnin is an art thats goin to be around a while , whereas cds are just annoying and too much work! i dont want to start a fight i just find it amusing how DJs use cds
i saw a silly fucker rent a van to carry his cds and haul them up and down stairs while i had a backpack to carry my music! thats fuckin silly aint it!
ill take that as a no knowledgeable response comment ! back to my original point CDs are for dinosaurs, didnt want to start a fight but face the facts boys
What is the recommended songlist that you use almost every wedding dance? A friend of mine is asking me to DJ his wedding and I want to make it as stress free as possible. Please help me?
dude im sorry but you have to umm plan your space better you should have run the truss just behinde the table like right above you put your CD rack to the side by the wall and your rack as the side on the table =]
Also, im using a B-52 Prodigy Fx And A Matrix 1000v2 speaker system at 150 watts 8 ohms per speaker and a 400 watt subwoofer with a built in amp. Check it out.
Dj Omega, How often Has It been Where you are asked to play a song that you don't have? On a laptop, i would rather not dj off of because i am a dj at heart, so dj'ing off of a laptop To me, seems fake, But should i look into adding it to my setup as a back up should i not have a certain song? Please respond or IM me at Trd3kgt on aim.
More often I get a request for a song and then have the difficult task of trying to find it. A laptop would allow for easier search and play functionality. I am currently in the process of going to laptop. I will still bring cds as a backup. If you have more questions, just shoot me an email.
you did great man its hard to dj weddings because of the age gaps and trying to please everyone. You definately killed it looks like you had no annoying family members pestering you for songs.
Thanks. I had a bunch of requests from the kids and was able to play just enough to keep them happy. The only thing I would have changed was to be closer to the dance floor.
it looks like your using the RCF series powered speakers.. if so why have ya got a numark mixer with only an eq for master.? not being a moan but you have top quality speakers putting through a bottom line mixing desk.. quality location for a gig though..
That mixer is the very first mixer I started out with many years ago, long before getting those speakers. Maybe I should upgrade, but for now the money is being spent on upgrading my lighting equipment. What 19" mixer would you recommend if you were to upgrade?
i would recomend a pioneer djm3000 its a 19'' rack mounted mixer, same size as the numark so you wont need to upgrade your rack.
its a little pricey but its all XLR output, 8 inputs with 4 channel and master. excellent build quality with built in effects. with regards to lighting, get yourself a few LED par cans and say 4 vxr scanners with a mini pulsar masterpiece.. easy to use and great effets.. let me know how you get on.. its always nice to help out a dj in the same business..
The pioneer djm3000 is a very nice mixer. If I had one the numark would definitely be out. I've been looking for a used one in good shape, but haven't had any luck yet.
been djing for ages and the illusion that the disco sets up 5 mins b4 its needed is realised here thanks, and i agree the camera man is your best friend on these doos
ahh theres always one guy who's had one too many(white shirt near the end).great vid and thanks for sharing, had my 1st wedding gig a month ago and they wouldn't let me leave until i played house of pain-jump around-twice!!
Haha....yes indeed. Sometimes they get a little out of hand (The ones that had too much to drink) and literally won't let you leave.....more money I guess, right?
I actually didn't have to do any of that for this event. Unfortunately it is hard to record while doing those announcements. I will try to figure out something next time. Thanks for the input.
