i think the fact that ricky was nervous saved floyd from getting countered and ricky seemed to just want to get on the inside the whole time but when he got there floyd cleverly held him on the ref's blind side (something the ref seemed to be blaming ricky for) and that caused ricky to be too close to get anything off while floyd worked the opening for a cheeky uppercut or kidney punch, he also had a few cheeky ones on the break
yeah floyd was using his elbow way to much. im surprised cortez didnt deduct a point for that, but its also one of those things that is sort of in a "grey area". it really depends on the ref. but cortez said he wouldnt put up with any dirty fighting and that was one of dirtiest fights i've seen coming from pbf.

yeah 8th round floyd started mixing up his punches and it looked like ricky was tired and floyd still had a lot of energy. And also you may disagree with this but i blame that check-left hook in the 10th on hattons trainer. he had ricky throwing those looping hooks on "24/7" which i did not understand at all. the punches were high, way outside and he left himslef open. you can't throw punches like that at a guy like pbf. he is too fast, too accurate and a devastating counter puncher.
i agree that was an accident waiting to happen and pbf was on to it early, i don't know why rh didn't try to feint a left hook and then throw an uppercut as floyd ducked , it seemed obvious when i watched it but it never happened. but ricky's still a great fighter who despite a massive weight and reach disadvantage managed to give the best p4p a good fight and a bit of fright at times. i'd liked to have seen them fight at LW 2 years ago just to see what would have happened
good point. joe cortez did not referee very well. but it's hard to argue with a guy like cortez whose been in the business for so long and has refereed a lot of title fights. i truly think hatton fought with too much emotion. he was nervous, and a lot was expected of him. he should definately fight again, but in the light welterweight division.
i agree he looked nervous early on and i think that's why he didn't jump on pbf in the 1st when he caught him with a stiff jab and as the fight went on he smothered his own work while floyd caught him inside but he was still in it after 7 and hbo had him 1 up after 6 but with the ref, the wrestling and the extra strength that floyd had he tired and lost the fight in his mind in the 8th.
there was also the issue of ducking below the waist, elbowing and punching on the break which all went unpunished. now i'm not saying cortez is corrupt but he allowed himself to be too heavily influenced by what the mayweather camp had said about hatton being dirty and it blinded him, which is shameful for a top level ref.
floyd's a great boxer something i've always known and respected and he showed great adaptability to get the better of hatton on the inside as the fight went on(elbows and all) and showed killer instinct to seize the fight as rh tired and tried to force the fight. but it was not a cake walk and the ref did play a part, watch the fight again and count the number of times fmj hits rh on the back of the head and gets away with it yet rh gets a point off when he misses?!

yeah 8th round floyd started mixing up his punches and it looked like ricky was tired and floyd still had a lot of energy. And also you may disagree with this but i blame that check-left hook in the 10th on hattons trainer. he had ricky throwing those looping hooks on "24/7" which i did not understand at all. the punches were high, way outside and he left himslef open. you can't throw punches like that at a guy like pbf. he is too fast, too accurate and a devastating counter puncher.

good point. joe cortez did not referee very well. but it's hard to argue with a guy like cortez whose been in the business for so long and has refereed a lot of title fights. i truly think hatton fought with too much emotion. he was nervous, and a lot was expected of him. he should definately fight again, but in the light welterweight division.

i agree he looked nervous early on and i think that's why he didn't jump on pbf in the 1st when he caught him with a stiff jab and as the fight went on he smothered his own work while floyd caught him inside but he was still in it after 7 and hbo had him 1 up after 6 but with the ref, the wrestling and the extra strength that floyd had he tired and lost the fight in his mind in the 8th.

there was also the issue of ducking below the waist, elbowing and punching on the break which all went unpunished. now i'm not saying cortez is corrupt but he allowed himself to be too heavily influenced by what the mayweather camp had said about hatton being dirty and it blinded him, which is shameful for a top level ref.

Ive got to say, I couldnt stand Mayweather before the fight, i thought he was cocky and arrogant but I know realise that alot of that was just to sell tickets . hatton only won 1 or 2 rounds. floyd landed double the punches ricky did. sure ricky pressured him but that was easy work for money mayweather. i mean, floyd isn't even a KO artist and he gave hatton the business big time.
