i have a question related to portable generators. i have an older generac portable generator. does out there know how hook up a multitester to the generator, and set the proper engine idle speed when warmed up?
a cheap way to keep it dry in rain or snow is buy a cheapie 1 or 2 man tent, I picked up a cheap tent for $20 and I keep it in the tent in bad weather with the tent flap partially open. point the exhaust pointed towards the opening Keeps most of the rain/snow out and yet provides plenty of ventilation for the exhaust and intake. I has worked for me.
I have a EU2000 Honda generator if the generator gets rained on any moisture it is very hard to start ,I am using premium gas and octane boost .When it is dry it starts on one pull.
Guys, yes it's not running perfectly, could be running rich and having some air intake issues, but I fixed this generator myself after it was run over by a car and dragged for about a mile on a gravel road. I was just demonstrating that I actually got the thing working again at all!
Did you clean the carb? It takes 5 minutes max to do. Just type eu2000i carb cleaning on a search engine. Solved my problem that sounded exactly like yours.
I've gone ahead a posted a response video to show JUST how loud (using a crappy recording method -- video from *still* camera)... But I compare traffic noise to generator noise in the video... the EU2000i is simply the best compromise for myself in size and function yet impossible to beat in noise level!!!
excellent example of the noise level. I own one and was shocked at how loud it was - UNTIL I heard my Dad's shop gen and rethought how quiet the Honda is even under load.
Why is the engine knocking??

Sounds like your exhaust has problems, mine runs at least half as loud even under full load
