  • Can you make a video of all the weapons in System Shock 2 & 1?

  • @danin900 well, by sheer numbers alone, you could kill or destroy hundreds more people and critters in the first two fallout games than in 3 or new vegas combined. and you could kill children too if you wanted...

you could shoot the locks off of doors with a shotgun, or blow someone's torso out from across the map with a BB gun. Actiony, yes. MORE action oriented? i think not.

  • Why does Rebecca look like John Romero? XD

  • You sound like that comedian that was on Saturday Night Live back in the 70s! :) Nice commentary!

  • whats a game without a plot you ask? a realy shitty game

  • This game gives me a headache!

  • Thanks for putting this up! System Shock 2 is better gameplay-wise, but I wanted to try the first one, but dosbox lags it up HORRIBLY, I tried EVERYTHING for making it less lagged, NOTHING worked, the controls were like impossible to get used to.... thanks for making these so I can fully enjoy System Shock 1 plus have your very amusing commentary!

  • @SHODANFan They have a mouselook mod to make the game more accessible, but the dosbox problem could be due to your computer.

  • @SHODANFan try getting "system shock portable", it should work on current computers, and the mouse look mod make the controls easier, move with wasd and look and aim with the mouse and that's it

  • puzzle 0? you suck

  • What kind of a game lets u select from so many options at the start. How does it make sense for you to decide how much plot a game has?

  • 4:00 (in a casual voice): ...Continuing the exploration of the Medical Suite... Fragmentation GRENADE.

  • Thank God. A SS1 LP. THANK YOU.

Woah...didn't know the configuration thing was even there...much less that it makes this much of a difference.

  • Even on Cyber 0, the enemies DO fight back. You don't take any damage. Sweet!

  • the graphiys back then.. omg! it was an orgasm for the eyes! i remember, people started caring way too much about graphics in 1991..(alone in the dark..first real 3d polygons..)

  • I just started playing this and I gotta say, the controls are so clumsy. Having to look down using separate buttons or the slider in the hud is so tedious, especially since you need to look down in order to search and pick up things.

I keep getting lost in the medical center, and I don't know where I need to go next. I never saw an objective screen that says whats next, and the map is just a bunch of confusing green lines with no elevation markings.

  • @timerider4 yeah true, but you have to give this game credit even though it has crappy controls because this was one of the first of its kind that had the ability to look up and down

  • @mindmonkey00: And lean, and crawl, and hack and draw wires and et-fraggin'-cetera =)

  • "and hey...pipe. useful. heh let's face it: whats any first person shooter without a low tech melee weapon"

  • One other comment, I have seen videos here of SS in high resolution. The version I downloaded online came packaged with DOS Box and was automatically set to 800x600. You should check it out! Also, I have to say that though SS is a great game, especially for the mid-90's, the voice acting is awful!

  • Great game! If EA had a brain, they would be working on SS3. I read in a thread that the poor sales of the first two precludes this, and few people outside of PC enthusiasts know what SS is. I have two responses. Fallout 3. Bioshock.

  • would this run on a Dingoo or GPX2?

  • @orbitalchiller no as there's no source code released for it, so no ports on other systems. And it cannot be emulated well on dosbox for gp2x

  • the best game ever made. it was about 10 years ahead compared to all the stuff for all platforms.

ss2 was better only in one aspect. you have a skillsystem with 3 speccs. rambostyle fighter marine, sneaky thiefy fighter navy, imba magelike psy ops with absolutely different and original playstyle. plus all the mixes between them.

but in all other aspects ss2 is far behind ss1.

bioshock compared to them is just a cheep unballanced "fastfood".

  • THX for making the commentary. I could not make this make run at my PC.

  • This was one of the best games i've ever played. Fantastic graphic at the time.

    And sooo scary.

  • play this game in the dark and we'll see whos scared xD

  • I had the pleasure of playing this when it was new, and it was a thrill around pretty much every corner.

System Shock 2 managed to be even -scarier-.

Also, you know you've screwed up when SHODAN sends you a "Thank You!" email. :D

  • You should play it in the high-res mode, makes it easier to see stuff and enjoy the game :P

  • It's nice how SS has several ways to tweak the difficulty, that way it doesn't suffer from a lot of problems the traditional "Easy-Medium-Hard" system has.

  • System Shock: the finest in Cyberpunk FPRPGs*.

    *First Person Role Playing Game

  • you sound more like Norm

  • People like us take that as a compliment, tyvm >:/

  • Clearly, he plays video games and has an accent.

Wait, is nerd even an insult anymore?

  • the nerds were prepared for the future

  • I absolutely loved Bioshock, but I think I think "streamlining it" was a bad move. It made the game much more accessible, but having that Deus Ex or System Shock 2 RPG/Inventory layer would have made a great game a fantastic one. Hell, Fallout 3 was a HUGE success, and that was a straight up RPG. So :/

  • Nevermind that Fallout 3 was a much more successful game than Bioshock.

  • There were no puzzles in Bioshock which didn't have an immediately obvious solution, and around halfway through the game you were an unkillable demigod. What really put me off was that there was virtually no penalty to dying, which meant I could keep killing whatever I wanted with the wrench. ;F

System Shock, at least, required you to have your brain active.

  • Ok dude, just goto your options and click turn off vita-chambers there you happy now!?!? you dont respawn instead you goto the main menu so you goto save alot also you think your really that good just because your on easy and you got alot of ADAM? try it on hard mode....

  • "Well, would you like to hear me tell a joke?

Yeah. Yeah, we'd love to hear a joke from you.

    Knock, knock.

    Who's there?

    Go fuck yourselves. "

  • You sound like Tom Hanks XD

  • I like Bioshock actually - I think they did a great job. I think there are a number of scenarios they could have used but I think they made the right choice in reinventing the game and using the best concepts from SS2.

It's great to see the original System Shock and thank you for posting your video as I did have the original game but could never get it to play. I didn't know about Dosbox....

  • I don't get people making personal comments like that.....there's absolutely nothing wrong with the man's voice.

  • that it may be, now don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

  • You guys are great, I love your work, but, while I feel Jakkus is a rude jackass, I sympathize on one aspect, this being:

There's no un-narrated playthroughs of System Shock 1 on youtube. You are brilliant, won't hear a word against you, but amusing dialog kinda prevents the fear and edgy feeling.

  • For me, the fear and edgy part kinda passed. The Game scared the shit outta me when I was like 8 or so and I didn't pick it up for years afterward so it already had it's way with me.

  • Lucky. I never had it, and so it's all a mystery to me.

  • How do you get system shock?

  • bioshock is not system shock

  • I think the tradgedy is that bioshock will probably get more sequels than system shock.

  • yeah I heard theyre making 5 sequels

  • Yes it is, it's just a watered down version of SS2 (no pun intended, thus pun was intended) with new graphics, and some decoys to trick us into thinking it's a different game. Deal with it.

  • Comment removed

  • @FREDPARADZ it's supposed to be a spiritual succesor. I like it, of course my favorite is system shock 1, I like it even more than 2, but I like to call bioshock "system shock 0", because it takes place in the past and is very retro, and kinda somethingpunk (I'm notsure if diesel punk applies), while system shock takes place in the future and is cyberpunk in style and art and stuff. and I wish they made a game that bridged the continuities and both franchises took place in the same universe!

  • @FREDPARADZ it is. hybrids are splicers, psy-powers are plasmids, shodan is andrew ryan, and wrench is a wrench. no, really, it's not similar to system shock, it is system shock.

  • @Icarus01

It's not. It just isn't, can't be and never will be. And just to make sure that doesn't happen, EA holds the trademark.

  • Best game among Deus ex 1, Fallout 1 and 2 and of course Sys2.

  • These videos are simply not working. What gives?

  • They are working now. The problem might be on your end or you caught youtube during its maintenance.

  • Sounds like my moms friend voice D: like it really does.

  • A 'spiritual' sequel.

bioshock was a masterpiece of a game, although thinking about it I'd take a system shock 3 anyday. but It would be hard to top system shock 2.

  • In my opinion Bioshock was a mediocre game, I don't know why it had so high ratings.

It's a spiritual sequel but it's also a dumbed down version. No inventory, no stats, no having to choose which way you want to go. You could use any weapon and any plasmid anytime.

And the storyline is just a more unbeliavable (in my opinion) version of System Shock 2. I'll stick to SS2, I kind of regret buying Bioshock.

  • I agree with that dumbed down bit. System Shock 2 is a work of perfection, and I will stand by that statement more than likely for years to come.

I enjoyed bioshock for what it is, but it should never be viewed as anything more than its own game in its own franchise.

    Bring on SS3.

  • agreed completely. after the awesome that was SS2 bioshock was a huge letdown. the very definition of dumbing down a game

  • Whoa, graphics at this time was really good. Better than Elder Scroll's Dagger Fall. But System Shock 2 and Thief 2 will beat any game.

  • you should make more videos!

  • for the record i like the way norm mcdonald sounds ...so it was a compliment

  • it was a compliment lol i love norm mcdonald!! jeez wtf dude

  • this dude sounds like Norm Mcdonald

  • that chick at the beginning looks suspiciously like john romero

  • yeah lol

  • You post a multi-part commentary on an old (excellent) game.. and the first thing you do is skip the intro!?

    No. Just no.

  • does anyone know a download for this? i gotta know!

  • This game is not legal to download, or even abondonware, so i would recommend trying to find a place to buy it (ebay?).

  • Abandonware is not a legal term, and basically any game that isn't officially sold or supported anymore (eBay doesn't count) would count as abandonware. Downloading a game without paying for it is still illegal if someone still owns the rights to it, even if that someone fails to make it available legally. Most companies just don't bother with it.

  • If the Home of the Underdogs is still around, you might find it there.

  • Just search for System Shock Portable, it's been updated to run on XP successfully

  • is this really what bioshock was based off of?

  • I believe BioShock was based off of System Shock 2 more than System Shock.

  • I think Bioshock was based off of System Shock 2 and some parts Fallout. (Not the third one, wee!)

  • Funny that you mention Fallout, since both Bioshock and Fallout 3 seem to follow a trend to make graphics pret-ty-ur yet the gameplay over-simplified compared to their previous installments.

  • Indeed.

    Compare Oblivion to Morrowind.

Apparently Cyrodiilian blacksmiths... make blunt axes.

  • Fallout 3 is nothing like 1 and 2 though. Bioshock is EXACTLY like System Shock 2, and IS dumbed down.

  • @ScaredHelmet well they are better games then there predecessors. I mean I wasnt a big fan of the original Fallouts, I loved System Shock 2. And just because there is less doesnt mean its a bad thing. Hell in the first ever Rainbow six games you could plot out the entire mission for your team before begining. now you can just tell them where to go in game. this is so much more better. who the hell wants to be in a fucking screen for twenty minutes drawing out where your team has to go.

  • @ScaredHelmet sadly that's the case with the majority of games in general now a day's becuase heaven forbid big game company's don't dumb down their games to be accessible to the broader casual audience who generally could careless about those kind of games in the first place as they are usually glued to their Wii's, playing crappy cell phone games, or play casual sports games. Ahh progress how I hate it.

  • @Evilmonkey66699 Whats wrong with casual games? Those kind of games help give way to a new generation of gamers with the same attitudes as you. Besides, there's plenty of modern games with just as good of a plot as this game does. Games are all about fun; a casual sports game has just as much fun in it as does a complicated and in-depth RPG.

  • @ScaredHelmet do you think that's bad?

Fallout 3 is better than it's counterparts, in my opinion

  • More of a spiritual successor...

  • Did you read that somewhere? Of course you did.

  • dude, i played this game for 3 weeks straight back in 94 of my 486 sx 33......haha single speed cd rom!!!!!

  • anyone know a download for this?

  • Yep but you do need dosbox to play it.

  • This video made me feel old...It still amazes me how far video games have come in such a short time. Nice vid!

  • This looks like an awesome game. Kinda like an alternative to Marathon if you didn't like Bungie in the 90's. Lulz. (in case you don't play Halo, Bungie created Halo and Halo was derived from Marathon)

  • I grew up playing marathon on the Mac. So yeah i know.

  • @StlyeFree it is an awesome game, get it and play it now!!

  • @kainthevampireduck I got it a couple of months ago actually. lol

  • You really should know you sound like Jack black

  • So I've been told.

  • IT's not like it's a bad thing, y' know

  • Yeah, seriously. You sound like Jack Black.

  • you sound like jack black xD

  • This game should really be recompiled for newer OSes, or even better, in Flash format.

  • Where's the crappy background music?

  • DosBox recording dosen't pick up the music for some reason... which is odd as it works with everything else.

Also don't let any fan boys know that you call the music crappy or unspeakable horrors might befall upon you.

  • If any one is wondering I figured out how to put music in by part 18 so its there from then onward.

  • it runs just like that or you need a module?

  • I hope you realize you are now fully responsible for finishing this commentary!

You are now and offical member of the VaunBraun Crew!

  • We also have the same first name ^.^

  • Dude i was so exited when I saw this!

  • You're not the only one Daniel.

    :)

  • ahhh gee... you just made my day. just don't pressure me :P.

  • If you dont like DOSbox use System Shock portable. Google it.

  • DOSbox is the olny thing that works with vista. total bummer.

  • Oh, really? That sucks!
