So a few hours ago I'm sitting out by the pool reading Hooper's "A Hundred Feet Over Hell" and here comes an O-1 (local fields L-19/305 used for glider tow). Fitting tribute.
I WAS IN THE 220TH CATKILLERS 19 71&72 ALSO WITH THE 62ND AVIATION ROYALCOACHMAN AT MARBLE MOUNTIAN AT DANANG MAINTAINED THE OLD BEAVER THAT THE UNIT HAD
I was in the 220th from June 68 to Jun 69. I was the CO of the 2nd and my call sign was CatKiller 26. Dianakacrash, if your dad was the CO of the 220th during this time, I knew him very well. Also, zabba333, I was a captain and one of my two birddogs had a playboy bunny on the tail.
I too was in the 220th RAC from June 68 to Jun 69. near the end of my tour I was the Supply SGT. even though my MOS was 67B20. I don't remember too many people from that time as it was over 40 years ago but I'm happy to hear about people that were there.
My callsign was Catkiller 42 and I was there 70/71. I couldn't have hung my backside out as far as I did without the Crew Chiefs and Mechanics. I am eternally grateful to them for all the times I came home from the DMZ, A Shau and Laos.
What ever happened to Whittmore, Lefty and Rick Gates?
My picture wouldn't be in that book I'm sure. We just kept the planes in the air as the crewchiefs and maintenance guys. The pilots laid it all on the line and got the pictures and the book. Deservedly so I might add.
This is very cool. My Dad was the CO for the Catkillers in 1968-1969. He sent me the book "A Hundred Feet Over Hell" very interesting, and informative.
My dads name is Edward Miler. What is your name? He sent me the book and a pamplet of pictures of all the guys there. It's very interesting to see and read.
hey I toured all over Vietnam in '72 for the USO, Phu Bai was our first stop, we did a show then got rocket attacked - I swear we didn't play that badly; Last day of tour in MACV HQ, Gen Weyand's office he said, Son, don't believe all you saw out there,
I replied, Sir, I'll only believe what you tell me I saw.'
I was with the Marines at Phu Bai from Mar 68' until Apr 69'...the USO didn't come that far north...glad they changed...we has a few Korean shows but never round eyes...had to go To Freedom Hill in DaNang to see USO shows..68' Marine vet
I was in the Catkillers in 1970/1971. Catkiller 20, Bill Johns, CW2. If anyone out there remembers me, please respond.. Would love to talk to you.
