  • IDGAF if he used autotune or not. His music is beautiful, he is a beautiful artist.

  • John on autotune: "have and will. On every record since Room for Squares. You just can't notice it." (uses a comparison to plastic surgery) Search it on YouTube "John Mayer on autotune" He is a god!

  • actually he does use it minimally live and in studio. said so on ustream.

  • On this vid at least, you can tell there's no autone, coz sometimes his voice is cracking down when he's singing very high.

  • guess what? John doesn't care if you think he ain't got the talent. why? he's JOHN MAYER MAN!

  • Go Johnny!!!!!

  • thats no shit tk100. that dude can sing like a bird and tear up the guitar

  • Mayer with autotune ??!!! >Come on , watch some blink 182 videos guys

  • or not!

  • he's using a lefty guitar stringed backwards jimmy Hendrix style, just the opposite.

  • @senfastek Its actually a righty guitar with a lefty neck. Dont ask me why cuz I have no idea lol.

  • @OvertheHills821 i heard that SRV discovered that some of the Hendrix tone came having the neck backwards, apparently it is because the sustain or something is on a different string so the sound is slightly different.

  • Steve Jordan has the best kit!

  • Gee, I wonder what happens during the time when John wakes up in the morning.

    Lame.

  • JM has admitted that he's used autotune on all of his records very subtly, but that might exclude WTLI if he was just talking studio records. Not saying he necessarily needs it.

  • i really love the riff. timeless riff, really remarkable. on trio john mayer show his rebel side. yeahh.

  • Through this whole concert you can clearly see and hear that everyone is just felling it. The trio and the audience... Even watching it on freaking Youtube. Everyone having more than just a good time. Thats cool

  • The song hasn't evovled, it was adjusted. There is a difference between john Mayer Trio an plain John Mayer. When he plays as the Trio, the songs are much rawer, and they play blues, not pop.

  • autotune sucks! such a piece of crap...

  • john mayer rocks by the way :P

  • the should call it the PINO FUCKING PALLADINO TRIO HOLY SHIT

  • Tetsume you are my hero. That comment made me lol so much it makes me wonder sometimes. But yeah futoncat you obviously know nothing about music and listen to rappers and pop stars who use AutoTune and call themselves musicians. John Mayer is a self-made songwriting genius with more talent in his pocket lint than you probably have in your entire family tree. I don't wish anything unto you but an education of class and sense when it comes to music and commenting on YouTube. people like you suck.

  • John mayer uses alot of autotuning on his latest DVD, while he sounds alot better with his natural sound like this recording.

  • ya he does use auto tuning on where the light is but not as much as i thought, his vocals have much improved from this performance(not to say there not good cause they are good, he has jsut improved)

  • do you know where exactly he uses autotune? just wondering cheers

  • Watch a video taken on someone's camera from the night of WTLI and then put it side-to-side with a video from the dvd. No auto-tuning used.

  • Agree. Autotune is distinctive. Even in the slightest use. Adam Levine uses it a lot! You can tell.

Where the Light Is...its all Mayer naturally. There is a difference from Autotune and mastering. Plus to autotune his channel from a live recording would produce evidence. He uses no autotune.

  • 3:58 "lone" from "lonely" is slightly sharp. no autotune on that.

  • @MalcolmBucklund

    you tube . com /watch?v=I_oF9xGrU28

  • @MalcolmBucklund john mayer used a pitch corrector on where the light is

  • @MalcolmBucklund He did use autotune, search "John Mayer autotune" and he says he's used it on every album he's ever made.

  • @OvertheHills821 to be fair every artist today uses it on their albums whether they want to admit it or not. It is just a way to perfect the sound. No one wants to do ten thousand takes in the studio to get the perfect take...we would be waiting twice as long to hear a new album from the artists we love.

  • @ilivestrong25 Yeah I don't have a problem with it. Its really hard to use autotune live and mask it up so you'll rarely hear autotune at a live show (unless you're at a T-Pain show and if you are, shame on you). Thats why so many people sound bad live but John Mayer is just a freak of a musician

  • @MalcolmBucklund Mayer admits he uses autotune, and on 'Where The Light Is' there are a couple of obvious slips where it's not been autotuned properly. Particularly in 'I Just Can't Trust Myself...' - check it out for yourself.

  • @91joeharrison he uses it on his albums and of course he will use it on his live DVD. He wants it to be perfect because it is a defining performance that many many people will see/hear. If you watch this performance or go to one of his regular concerts, he will not use it. I know cuz I have been to a few of them. And he still sounds damn good every time. So I don't think anyone should question the mans talent. Not saying you were though. Just letting it be known! haha

  • @MalcolmBucklund He must use auto tune on his guitars.... cause every note he hits is perfect... hahahahaah

  • go thee to a nunnery!

  • i am white, and i guess you could count tennessee as a trashcan. but you are such a loser. i hate you and hope you die by a brick coming from the sky and hitting your foot, and then you die of internal bleeding. man my grammar is so out of whack.

  • Your ignorance amazes me. How can you not acknowledge JM musical talents?

  • hi guys

  • The intro of this song on this version, remember me of the song "White Summer" of Jimy Page. :)

Great Song, awesome band, marvellous trio!

It's all I have to say!

  • he looks a bit like jimi page when his face is covered with his hair

  • yeah he does

  • this song is great. i have never been a big john mayer fan but he is a pioneer of the guitar. its rare to see people creating good music these days with all the pop and emo shit. hats off john. plus, steve jordan on drums makes this SWEET

  • This song always helps me over a break up.

  • haha, look at him headbang.

  • ha! this was on my birthday!

  • is he playng on a left-handed guitar?

May it be a tribute do Jimi?

  • It's his Try Strat and it just has a reverse headstock.

  • Actually, for future reference, you can look where his fingers are being placed on the neck and compare that to how low or high the notes are and get the answer that way.

  • dude shut the fuck up, enough said
