The President can then CUT the grant given for, say, law enforcement to the state of Kentucky. When law enforcement would get 14 million, it will now get 3 million there. So when murders, rapes, robberies, trespasses, etc. go drastically UP, and people become in a sense, more apprehensive to leave their properties, You can say, "I played a game, and lost"

However, I am (was until 6 months ago) a tax payer until I lost my job. The extension has helped me buy the time I need right now to seek employment in the technology field. If I didn't have it, I'd be homeless, period. and there a millions more. Once I'm employed, I'll have the joy of having my paycheck sucked dry. But ask anyone and right now it beats eating and living on the streets. In short, extensions buy time to find work. Nothing more.

during the depression things were bad but the lack of a safety net for people had a benefit. In the small town where my grandma lived they would get up on Sundays to find bags on the porch. A lot of porches had bags. Those bags had things in them that people had extra of. The community shared it's resources and did so charitably and without being told to do so.

Higher taxes on imports will make things more expensive for while but it will allow manufacturing to increase in the U.S. which will create jobs. Just shrinking Government and no manufacturing and depending on consumers will not work. When inflation hits foreign products will cost more anyway. I checked into my payment into unemployment one time years ago and in a year of working I had only paid about $800 total. If I had lost my job I would have gotten $1800 a month for 6 1/2 months. Who pays the rest? The employer and the state pick up the tab for the rest of it. So pay in 800 get out $11,700 in 26 weeks.... it's not sustainable for 26 weeks much less longer.

cobra is expensive but it's only meant to hold you over for a moment. get an HMO. they're cheap. kaiser would have been around $450 a month for me, husband and daughter 2 smokers. shop for some insurance if you have pre existing. if not, let it go! dr visit only about $50 and if you don't go every day it's cheaper than 900 a month.

This is what you want to do, defy the Federal Government when they mandate unemployment for those that lost their jobs in The Great Recession. The President can then CUT the grant given for, say, law enforcement to the state of Kentucky. When law enforcement would get 14 million, it will now get 3 million there. So when murders, rapes, robberies, trespasses, etc. go drastically UP, and people become in a sense, more apprehensive to leave their properties, You can say, "I played a game, and lost"

However, I am (was until 6 months ago) a tax payer until I lost my job. The extension has helped me buy the time I need right now to seek employment in the technology field. If I didn't have it, I'd be homeless, period. and there a millions more. Once I'm employed, I'll have the joy of having my paycheck sucked dry. But ask anyone and right now it beats eating and living on the streets. In short, extensions buy time to find work. Nothing more.

during the depression things were bad but the lack of a safety net for people had a benefit. In the small town where my grandma lived they would get up on Sundays to find bags on the porch. A lot of porches had bags. Those bags had things in them that people had extra of. The community shared it's resources and did so charitably and without being told to do so.

I'm in Orange County! I have no doubt that peole are having to liquidate their assets or dump liabilities but there really are plenty of people that aren't in that boat. Something we tend to forget is that while the actual unemployment rate may be 20%, there's 80% working and buying. And out of those maybe 10% is upside down in their home.

The Job Stimulus is a Fraud, this is why: Let the Politicians know you want high rates on tariffs (higher tax on imports). This will bring American Companies back to the United States and create jobs. Notice the politicians are not doing this? Why, because they are paid off by the Big Corporations to keep their companies overseas to use slave labor and then sell back to us for a premium. In return you pay less, but lose your jobs. Don't have a job?, so I Guess cheap prices are worthless

Higher taxes on imports will make things more expensive for while but it will allow manufacturing to increase in the U.S. which will create jobs. Just shrinking Government and no manufacturing and depending on consumers will not work. When inflation hits foreign products will cost more anyway. Without manufacturing being the main engine in the United States, we are finished.

I watch that Show called "intervention" you see these people with a nice apartment, hook on Drugs or Alcohol and get assistance. There are Millions doing this; it almost seems like it don't pay to Work. I don't have a pension and if I start making more money, the Obama people will take it away. So why should I work hard to give it to other people?

scheemadruci, unfortunately people don't pay much into unemployment insurance. I checked into my payment into unemployment one time years ago and in a year of working I had only paid about $800 total. If I had lost my job I would have gotten $1800 a month for 6 1/2 months. Who pays the rest? The employer and the state pick up the tab for the rest of it. So pay in 800 get out $11,700 in 26 weeks.... it's not sustainable for 26 weeks much less longer.

you pay unemployment INSURANCE. what YOU actually pay out of your check is a fraction of what you receive. The govt and the employer pick up the difference.
cobra is expensive but it's only meant to hold you over for a moment. get an HMO. they're cheap. kaiser would have been around $450 a month for me, husband and daughter 2 smokers. shop for some insurance if you have pre existing. if not, let it go! dr visit only about $50 and if you don't go every day it's cheaper than 900 a month.

GO TO THE DOCTOR! stop going to the ER for a hang nail. the reason the majority of people go to the ER is cause they don't WANT to pay the $50 office visit. I've been to ER with REAL emergency and had to wait hours while people with the sniffles get taken in... and while they wait they eat mcdonald's. and I pay the bill when I'm done!

true, I don't know what you pay in taxes nor did I say I did. I said I pay more in taxes than most people earn in a year. I do not live in kentucky, I live in southern california at the beach and pay dearly to do so. Last year I paid almost $46k in taxes after my "deductions".
and the word bonus needs to be changed. most of the people getting these bonuses don't earn a normal salary. end of year commission should be called that rather than saying bonus.

There were thousands of workers who were working on bridges and roadways (y'know, the things the gov. is meant to work on) that were taken off their jobs without pay because of Senator Bunning. the 800 billion dollar stimulus package was supposed to have those "shovel ready jobs" in there... but only 5% of the stimulus was allocated for infrastructure. And funny how washington likes to throw completely unrelated things into bills.
2/3 of the stimulus hasn't been spent. get the money from THERE. I just want them to do what they said they were gonna do. If that's too much to ask, I guess I am a moron.

I agree that any teacher who advocates the instillment of political agendas in a classroom (as well as religious) should be burned at the stake! I teach theatre/performance/film. I teach at a private university. I am fortunate enough to work both in the film world, and in the realm of education.
