@pinball281 Well there may be one reason for that and I am purely throwing it out there. For me I am not as put out by the Jews because while surely they believe in God and they think I am wrong, they at least do not prescribe the idea of Hell. So in a sense they think I am wrong surely, and I will be found lacking by their God of course but at least they don't claim to have knowledge of my eventual eternal torment at the hands of demons. So in my book that puts them slightly ahead.
@pinball281 Another reason I believe its the case is that due to their own History they have had a fairly unique and recent perspective of just how far bigotry and hatred based on belief can go and as a whole have passed through their own crucible of torment. Admittedly there are those "hellfire preacher" types of Rabbis still to this day (figuratively speaking) but from what I have seen they tend to be the fringe rather than the plurality.

And more important than anything else is the question of the teachings themselves. Are the teachings moral, should they have any place in our schools.
You will find that it is not the fact that people believe in god which gets people worked up. It is what people who do believe try to push on other groups in society.

For example, if people believe that there is are gods and that after we die we go off into a wonderful paradise, it makes life almost worthless. I feel that it robs us of purpose and meaning, and so if it is true we need a substantial amount of evidence to back that up.

Dinosaur with the exception of being covered in scales, which many of them weren't, looked very little like reptiles, or dragons. For me I am not as put out by the Jews because while surely they believe in God and they think I am wrong, they at least do not prescribe the idea of Hell. So in a sense they think I am wrong surely, and I will be found lacking by their God of course but at least they don't claim to have knowledge of my eventual eternal torment at the hands of demons. So in my book that puts them slightly ahead.

@pinball281 Another reason I believe its the case is that due to their own History they have had a fairly unique and recent perspective of just how far bigotry and hatred based on belief can go and as a whole have passed through their own crucible of torment. Admittedly there are those "hellfire preacher" types of Rabbis still to this day (figuratively speaking) but from what I have seen they tend to be the fringe rather than the plurality.

More history behind their culture, the longer a culture persists the less religious it becomes.

And more important than anything else is the question of the teachings themselves. Are the teachings moral, should they have any place in our schools.
You will find that it is not the fact that people believe in god which gets people worked up. It is what people who do believe try to push on other groups in society.

@HPIFreak And I think the other key thing here is that many of us care about what is true, and what is not true. We believe that approaching things from a scientific, evidence based and rational viewpoint is important.
For example, if people believe that there is are gods and that after we die we go off into a wonderful paradise, it makes life almost worthless. I feel that it robs us of purpose and meaning, and so if it is true we need a substantial amount of evidence to back that up.

@HPIFreak Science is under no obligation to ensure that its findings do not offend or contradict peoples beliefs. Science is simply the way we find out what is true and what is not true.
If your idea cannot be tested or falsified there is simply no reason to take any position on it whatever and judgement on that matter is suspended until it can be falsified or tested.
Nothing has been discovered so far in any experiment which would show the only way that the universe can exist is through gods

you know what i believe? i believe people are going to believe whatever they want. just as you think christans foolishly believe in a god, you foolishly believe there isnt one. you can argue till you die and find out first hand, but either way, its not going to fix or change anything. christans believe there is a god because they dont leave any chance of doubt that there isnt a god. but atheists believe there isnt one because they dont give him a chance to exist. both in the same boat to me

@HPIFreak atheists do not "believe there is no god". atheists does not believe there is any god, cause there is no fucking one evidence at all to believe so. And what matters is not that whether dumb people like you will continue to foolishly believe there is god when there is no logical reason or evidence at all to do so, but that what is true. And here's some questions for you: why don't you give zeus a chance to exist? why don't you give dragons a chance to exist? aliens? unicorns? Thor????

Well, by this logic, it's better to not believe because, then, Satan doesn't exist by default and it means that demons and all that scary can't exist either.
