I think production also decreases the quality in hip hop, ad-lib was caused problems too, background ad-libs divide the flow making it sound choppy.

After Jazzy left the sound got soft. Late 90s early 2s with only Will was tough to listen to. The work wasnt there in his lyrics anymore. Honestly Will can't rap anymore at all. And that's coming from a full bonafide DJJJ+FP follower. I ran Tyson and Nightmare for like 5 years straight at least.

I'm not talking that "WS sold out" shit either, that brother a roll model. Obama x5 in my opinion.

I realized that people don't know the good rap because they never heard of it. In the 80s, MANY white people had never even heard of rap. Especially up north and in Canada. When I pump my tunes, no matter what they are, (nothing after 2000 usually really) I see people hear the rhyme flow.
