That's like saying classical music isn't defined. The borders are loose and prone to overlap sometimes, but punk is punk. And as for 'doing your own shit' how is that possible when other people are doing the same shit? Does that make it collectively everyones? Does that mean punk is about being the same?

Not necessarily what I meant, you have a point, but in essence, punk is punk indeed, but the point I was trying to get across is that most punks did the shit for fun, And The Dead Milkmen are a great example. They played for a few bucks and a can of food at times, They WANTED to play. I would say punk is the gritty raw music that has fun and doesn't care what it sounds like.

Deadmilkmen concerts are huge audience sing-alongs. Awesome fun shows. Last time i saw them was back in like 95 after punk rock girl was a hit. most fun you'll ever have at a show.

I got to see the Dead Milkmen in Cleveland, OH back in 1990. It was the 'Fear of a Beige Planet' tour, in support of their album 'Metaphysical Graffiti'. It was a great show. I got dropped on my head, though. Ouch.
