  • My wife and I were at this taping. Does anyone have the entire video of this show? I also had the opportunity to meet Dick Clark after the show....no not Chet, I wanted to, but he left after his second segment in this show.

  • I never heard of a Gibson Super 4000. The 18" lower bout jazz box is a Super 400. It looks like a Super 400 but normally the truss rod cover has Super 400 engraved on it, and I can't tell.

I think the little thumb puppet is really neat. I have to get one of those.

    Big Ron

  • he really got fun with his song , guitar n the puppet ! natural artist.miss him!

  • Dad played like Chet.

  • is it just me, or is this guy high as a kite?

  • girl on violin...Meg whites Mom????? :O

  • I can't tell it from a Super 400 and I had two back in the 60s (not at the same time_)

  • Somebody needs to kick that one dis likes ass!!

  • this one person who doesnt like this video probobly like metal or messed up music

  • @cobycracker dont diss metal, i love it and clicked the like button :p good music is good music

  • I have one Super 4000 Chet Atkins for sale in Germany, look at gitarren-consult-at-de

  • I had that EXACT dragon head in green when I was a kid. I really hope I didn't throw it away and that it pops up somewere :D

  • The thumb-puppet is brilliant...and hysterical!! Chet, you are SO missed.....

  • I have also met Dick Clark. 100% class!

  • No I seen that guitar at musicians freind guitar magazine for sale 31000 dollars.Gretsch guitars are the best sounding guitars.

  • No I seen that guitar at musicians freind guitar magazine for sale 31000 dollars.

  • you're right, its a gibson, but its called a super 400, not a super 4000, and its $12000. sorry, im a smartass sometimes.

  • Chet's gitar in the video is not a super 400*, nor a Byrdland in fact. It is a Super V

  • @pablodepinho Close, but it is in fact a Chet Atkins signature model Super 4000. The Super V has a 17 inch full depth body and a Mini Humbucker (or sometimes 2 full size Humbuckers). The Super 4000 has an 18 inch thinline body with a full size floating pickup.

  • Let's see - we start at $!0,000 then $30,000 and ohh look - $40,000. Do I hear $50.000??

  • I was fourth row at this performance, and I met Dick Clark as well! And by the way, that is a $30.000 guitar....I know I played on at Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse, WI.

  • Thumb puppet for the win!!

  • @ctstudd4 : I think he is in fact hiiting the wire between the guitar and the amp, because soimetimes, with certain settings, when I hit it, or drop it on the floor, the wire males this noise.

  • this is great but did any one els notice the little guitar monster on his thumb? maybe THATS how he does it!!!!! ;)

  • What is he hitting and the end of the song to make that strange noise, an effect pedal ??

  • My friend has a Gibson Chet Atkins country getleman and it makes that sound too. I think it is because the pickups are so good they pick up the vibration from when he stomps his foot at the end

  • Thanks

  • I think the stomp at the end causes the reverb processor to vibrate giving that sound.

  • Thanks.

  • vibrations from the floor travels to the amp (not via guitar cord, but rather floor to amp) - hitting the springs of the reverb tank...

just try yourself - knock a guitar amp with reverb ON

  • 1:21 wow that violinist is FAST!

  • Love the thumb puppet!

  • thumb puppet ftw!!!

  • HELLO Guitar Center!!!

Why isn't there any thumb muppets in stock??

  • that thumb puppet is awesome!! i have to get one for playing guitar now

  • It pops up and scares you out of nowhere. Chet is so cool.

  • HAHAHA thumb monster!

  • NICE PUPPET!

  • Don't think I ever seen Chet play a Gibson. Very cool!

  • he's got a few signature modeled gibson, I don't they make them anymore(i could be wrong). But yeah, I have a cd where all he plays is a gibson.

  • I know that he played Gretsch for years, but fell out with them when they ceased to be family-owned. He went over to Gibson then.

  • I want one as well ;)!

  • Ah, I finally get why this tune is called "Big Foot"!

  • Maybe that's what fit his hand best

  • hahaha. that little puppet on his thumb is hilarious!

  • I wonder how many times he had to run that 1st and 2nd run before he got it right in the recording, here it is not near as good. Probably had to past it together

  • ruleoforder: Why would you be making a statement that's obviously about rap when this is a video of one of country's finest guitarists?

  • Is that Wanda Vick playing fiddle?

  • That's quite a "thumbdinger"!

  • wats on his thumb

  • snoboi92: On his right thumb, there's a thumb pick and, on his left thumb, it's some finger puppet.

  • It looks more like a Byrdland to me but i could be wrong

  • That is the Gibson Super 4000. That's about a $10,000 guitar.

  • @muzikman74 Actually they only made a handful of this limited edition around 1998. They sold for around $40,000 each! Much more than I would want to spend. The Gibson Super 400 on which this is based is their flagship arch top guitar and it sells for around $12,000 plus or minus.

  • @muzikman74 Do a little more research in them

old catalogs that had that particular guitar on display!

It was $40,000.00, and there were only 20 WORLD WIDE!

  • @muzikman74 $40,000.00 fifteen yrs ago

  • @pandorski sure is a super 4000. Its a custom chet atkins one for him made in 95. only 50 made

  • @pandorski I think the Byrdland had shorter scale.......?

  • That little green monster had the best seat in the house.

  • Ha! That foot stomp was great with the spring reverb crashing.

  • Thumb Monster!

  • What a player,,, what a guy,, sure miss him and his guitar,,,, a fine man!!!

  • Big thumb would have been a better title!

  • That is so funny how he did that with his thumb.

  • I think he must have been in a humorous mood that day.

Either that or aliens tried to kidnap his thumb.

  • the one and onley!

  • Cool he`s got a mini boglin finger puppet that looks down in amazement at the runs of notes lol

  • is that a puppet on his thumb?

  • This is the guitar Chet played 1949-53

  • This was the new guitar that Gibson built for him in 1995. Only fifty were produced. In '45 he recieved his brothers L-10. He also played an L-7 in the early days but his D'Angelico Excel was his number one until the Gretch days.

  • are there any photos of those times in internet?

  • ya... thats really wrong... that guitar is clearly not from the 50s

  • What´s this on his thumb ^^ I wanna own this by myslelf :D

    Great tune!!

  • thanx muzikman74 for this tune ;)
