My wife and I were at this taping. Does anyone have the entire video of this show? I also had the opportunity to meet Dick Clark after the show....no not Chet, I wanted to, but he left after his second segment in this show.
I never heard of a Gibson Super 4000. The 18" lower bout jazz box is a Super 400. It looks like a Super 400 but normally the truss rod cover has Super 400 engraved on it, and I can't tell.
I think the little thumb puppet is really neat. I have to get one of those.
@pablodepinho Close, but it is in fact a Chet Atkins signature model Super 4000. The Super V has a 17 inch full depth body and a Mini Humbucker (or sometimes 2 full size Humbuckers). The Super 4000 has an 18 inch thinline body with a full size floating pickup.
I was fourth row at this performance, and I met Dick Clark as well! And by the way, that is a $30.000 guitar....I know I played on at Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse, WI.
@ctstudd4 : I think he is in fact hiiting the wire between the guitar and the amp, because soimetimes, with certain settings, when I hit it, or drop it on the floor, the wire males this noise.
My friend has a Gibson Chet Atkins country getleman and it makes that sound too. I think it is because the pickups are so good they pick up the vibration from when he stomps his foot at the end
No, it's the reverb spring in the amp (on the floor behind him). If you stomp a wooden stage floor hard enough (or hit the amp) the spring wobbles...

ok dumb ass one he didnt just play gibson 2 gibson humbuckers are so much better than fender singlecoils for this time of music. they have a richer sound and not as limited as humbuckers, since im guessing youre a fan boy of some company that hates on good guitars
I wonder how many times he had to run that 1st and 2nd run before he got it right in the recording, here it is not near as good. Probably had to past it together
@muzikman74 Actually they only made a handful of this limited edition around 1998. They sold for around $40,000 each! Much more than I would want to spend. The Gibson Super 400 on which this is based is their flagship arch top guitar and it sells for around $12,000 plus or minus.
This was the new guitar that Gibson built for him in 1995. Only fifty were produced. In '45 he recieved his brothers L-10. He also played an L-7 in the early days but his D'Angelico Excel was his number one until the Gretch days.

you're right, its a gibson, but its called a super 400, not a super 4000, and its $12000. sorry, im a smartass sometimes.

Chet's gitar in the video is not a super 400*, nor a Byrdland in fact. It is a Super V

I think the stomp at the end causes the reverb processor to vibrate giving that sound.
JohnnyLadd 2 years ago
Thanks.
johndeaconisahero 2 years ago
vibrations from the floor travels to the amp (not via guitar cord, but rather floor to amp) - hitting the springs of the reverb tank...
just try yourself - knock a guitar amp with reverb ON
