There is nothing that makes me feel more at home than Texas Swing and Asleep At The Wheel. Listening to this remindes me of growing up and learning life in the Great plains of Central Kansas Thank You
You're gonna love the newest addition to the Western Swing tradition - The Bordertown Bootleggers form Austin TX. They even play some original y=tunes!
Lucky Oceans who played steel with this band (But not in this line up - I think he may have been a founding member) married an Australian girl and now lives in Fremantle Western Australia, he has been fairly influential around the traps with a zydeco and country bands plus a TV show at one stage I did hear he hadn't been well but is on the mend now.
You have to love Asleep at the Wheel for playing this music. Bob Wills is still alive and looking down with a smile on his face. This is music we can understand and love. Bless you all.
Heavens to Murgatroid! It's cool to the max, daddy-o, that this gifted band is keeping Western Swing & the spirit of Bob Wills alive! They're such an incredibly talened group of performers! THANKS for posting this! :)
It sounds as if you really get it. Gotta tell you, I'm a 10th generation American, which means that your peeps and mine were on opposite sides of that little dust up. But forget that. If you're down with Bob, you oughtta shag it over here and become one of us. We need all the stout hearts we can get.
This is great. They're coming to DC (The Birchmere, where they started half a century ago), and you've just "decided me" to buy tickets - that is, if'n I can still get 'em. Thanks.
Great video! My Grandpa played with the Texas Playboys for a brief period, and remained lifelong friends with Bob Wills. As a kid I rode a Buckskin horse that was a grandcolt of Bob's old Palomino stud. Love that Western Swing!
Never been to Texas but here in this cold corner of little old England I can ride the storm listening to great music like this. long live Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, I have most of their output and now also a lot of Asleep at the Wheels' music-American music is truly International. Thanks for this post.
No that ain't Cindy on Steel that is the MOST freaking awesome Steel player ever Eddie Rivers!! Eddie is an old friend of mine from when he was in the band the "Western Box Turtles" who played around Milwaukee, WI several years ago.
I had the great luck to play a couple shows with Eddie in WI. He knew our steel player and filled in with us. Even though he was way out of our league, he never acted as such. It is so cool he was able to hook up with Asleep.
I had the honor of having Eddie teach me how to play pedal steel. An incredible, patient teacher. He would come over to my home once a week and I had my Emmons set up for him. Often I'd watch him play on and on as he never ran out of new fresh ideas. There is no nicer guy and as fantastic as he would never let on. My entire family would tell him how wonderful he sounded and he would respond with a sincere thank you. By midnight we'd have polished off a number of shots and it was on to nxt. week.
You all make Bob proud. As a musician myself I take my hat off to you and say, Boys, don't stop that Western Swing now, play on ,play on. Mighty pretty.
Put the Cherokee Cowboy in front the The Wheel doing this song.
