  • Does this work with an catalytic converter ?

  • Hi! I'm a member of goldrefining forum and have been recovering gold from computer scrap and will in the near future begin extracting platinum. I spent over a year learning what you need to know before attempting it!

You will be working with things that can poison you, destroy your health or kill you and your family!

PLEASE READ THE SAFTY INFO . GOLDREFINING FORUM.COM. before you attempt anything you see on the internet about refining!

  • where did you find so much platinium sir in computers help me out please

  • at what temperature should i incinerate the powder??thanks

  • I cant enter your site.I entered the name and password and cant get in tell me how to enter it correctly

  • What is your website.I would like to do some reserch.

  • Denoxxing is the process of removing the NO and NO2, otherwise known as NOx, from the solution before precipitating the Pt . The process is to evaporate the solution own to syrup like consistency with out completely drying out the solution. The solution is then re-hydrated with a small amount of HCl (muriatic acid) and the process repeated two more times. The third time around use water to rehydrate the syrup. This removes any free NOx from the solution which permits a clean precipitation.

  • great tutorial, ive never heard of the process 'Denoxx', how is it done? is it diliting the soluton?

  • If Au is present in the solution, can you precipitate it with oxalic acid, remove the precipitate, then add the ammonium chloride to precipitate the Pt? My question is will the oxalic acid added to precipitate the Au interfere with the precipitation of Pt by addition of the ammonium chloride afterwards?

  • Comment removed

  • @georgetcr If gold is present you'll need to denoxx the solution first, then add your oxalic acid to the hot solution. Maintain the heat on the solution for an hour or more. When the gold precipitation ceases, test the solutoin with ferrous sulfate to be certain all of the gold is removed, then proceed with the Pt precipitation.

  • @lazersteve Thanks so much, I am a geochem student and just trying to teach myself some Au and Pt assaying techniques to extract them from samples and the like. Your help is much appreciated.

  • hi, I would like to email you about refining platinum from catalytic conveters. would you know how much platinum is in one?

  • thank you man, this is what I have been looking for, will check out your site

  • What was the starting platinum material that you used? thanks

  • @QZORRO2233 Medical scrap. Small wires from back pain treatment electronics.

  • test

  • how much ammonium chloride did you put in....

  • @wngchnKid - Add dry NH4Cl in small increments until no more orange-yellow salt is formed. A good starting estimate is 1 gram of NH4Cl per 2 grams of Pt dissolved. Using too much NH4Cl could cause the [NH4]2[PtCl6] to precipitate with NH4Cl crystals engrained in the structure of the [NH4]2[PtCl6] causing the [NH4]2[PtCl6] to appear crystalline and semi-transparent when dried. The salt formed has some health risks associated with it and should be handled with the appropriate safety gear. Steve

  • @lazersteve thanks so much.

  • @lazersteve next question...are you able to use this process when other metals are present like gold and silver....and still able to precipitate all the metals dissolved in aqua regia? thanks.

  • @wngchnKid If silver is present as more than 25% of the starting mass, the scrap will skin over with AgCl and dissolution will stop. Gold will dissolve into the solution with the Pt, but silver (must be less than 25% of total mass) will remain as a solid powder (AgCl) that must be filtered out before the Pt is precipitated. When gold is also present precipitate the gold first using sodium bisulfite.

  • good one, thanks

  • i am working for jewellery manufacturing co ,please give me information for refining ,gold ,silver ,platinum and palladium form grinding dust .

  • @cyrusvariava Check out my website and the forum or shoot me an email : lazersteve@goldrecovery.us

  • i use zinc

  • @chevito11 Zinc will precipitate all metals together from the solution below zinc in the activity series, which will produce impure platinum.

  • Now I have figured it out, thanks for share...

  • What is the composition of "incinerated orange powder" 1:34 ?

  • The orange powder is Platinum Ammonium Chloride. Once incinerated it is Platinum Sponge.

  • What is denoxxing?

  • Denoxxing is the removal of the nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen oxide gases from the solution. It is accomplished by three evaporation (do not boil) cycles of the solution. When the solution becomes syrupy rehydrate with HCl and repeat the evaporation. When the HCl is added the poisonous brown NOx gases are replaced by chlorine and the solution is 'DeNoxxed'.

  • can i just send you my platinum and u do it for me

  • Yes. I can refine your platinum group metals for you. My fee is 10-25% of the final yields depending on the amount of metal sent for refining.
