@jtco3 Have you seen the Jean Cocteau version? 'Cause this is pretty close to a shot-for-shot remake of it and the effects are pretty impressive for the time it was released. It's a classic!
@MsKrishtina I was just thinking about that, but there are a lot of artistic differences. Personally, I like the 1940s one better, but this version is like comfort food to me!
@femalephantomdimes5 Is it weird that I think the actress who played Belle in the 1940s seemed more ... emotional, realistic, more human? Nothing against Susan Surandon (spelling?). She's an excellent actress.
This is just Wonderful ---jean cocteau would be proud. they kept so faithfully to the old black and white version. Big love for doing that. now it's the same great story with COLOR and it's in ENGLISH. Thumbs WAY UP!!!!!! xoxoxo
Funny, but before I saw this episode, and before I knew Susan Sarandon was in it, I never really thought of Susan Sarandon as being beautiful but, now that I think about it she is sort of pretty.
I don't think the sisters are forcing Beauty to do housework like in Cinderella. Beauty decides to do these things for herself and because she needs to take care of her father as well.
I remember thinking when I was young the hand should have poured him a full glass. I was too young at the time to know that you're not supposed to do that with wine.
don't get me wrong I love Susan Sarandon and she's great for the part but at-least name her character rather then Beauty, in the Diseny Verison Belle means Beauty so they could have either name her with the 'mean beauty' or 'A sounding name of Beauty like Maria, Rosa or Abigale etc'
this is a good episode and I really like it but I think it would have been better if they had been a bit more original with the plot, instead of relying on Jean Cocteau's version... especially the parts that were explained in that version but not in this one..
If you wanna see a really fantastic, scary and romantic version of Beauty and the Beast you should try the Czech version from 1978 directed by Juraj Herz. The original title is "Panna a netvor".
Roger Vadim, who directed this episode, also did "Barbarella" (1968).
This is unusual from the other "FTT" episodes how the scenes of Beauty's home are shot using reel film while the scenes of the Beast's palace are videotaped like soap operas to give it an ethereal look.
lol...i love thus type of stuff its hilarious yet terrifying. and !!!! you know its gonna be great when the first name you see on a fairytale show is geman nutjob klaus kinski loloolo
The reason she doesn't like you is the big hair, shes afraid it will jump off your head and attack her, lol.

you'd think they could be more original and not followed the 1946 French La Belle et La Bete.

At least this is better than inciting controversy by colorizing and English-dubbing the Jean Cocteau classic. ; )
