  • Can anyone tell me the name of the bakery?

I really wanna go to this bakery, thanks :)

  • They live normal lives.

But the people who bash them?...

just have inferiority complexes. That's all

  • FRANCES SUCKS.

  • Really nice episide. Never seen this show before. Hope the rest is just as good.

  • J'adore le francaise!

  • Ah, oui, Paris! I lived there for nearly 10 years. There's no place like it anywhere, and the food and wine are fabulous!

  • C'est Paris - C'est normal".

    Merci

    Beaucoup

  • I think he forgot sex..sense of touch. 4/5. But I guess Daft Punk makes up for the rest of the music, so 5/5.

  • Good show. Nice.

  • This makes me want to rewatch Babette's Feast. Awesome.

  • This is my favorite episode, and I to was a little frenchaphobic before seeing it. I thought the french hated Americans, I guess that was an overabundent sterio-type. I know I must visit Paris next, maybe that will be my settling point. But for now I can try to keep admiring the slower pace of life of small town America, this culture seems somewhat relative to the one I'm used to only with great wine, absent, and an asortment of elegant foods in hundred year old bistros. some day...

  • @SamanthaKernc Nah the french don't hate americans more than they hate anyone. They hate all races, religions and creeds equally.

  • @TheDave000 Look like a hick and act like an oaf... in whatever country you may visit... and you won't be respected. It's about style and class and manners. Do an experiment one day. Dress well, speak the language, have manners... and people will respect you. The next day... dress like crap and talk incoherently loud. You'll be hated....everywhere in the world. Even you're own world.
  • Ah ah! French are the ambassador, but that's the latin spirit for you! French, Italians, Spanish, Portuguese... And I don't know Romanians much, but eh! It's a latin language as well, so it gotta influence!

  • Go Pascale GO!!

  • what he says about the french being in tune with their senses, can be said about 90% of countries. in brazil, mexico, hungary, vietnam, they place just as much importance on meals. big deal...

  • way to less food. by the way humans have 5 senses, not 4

  • France > USA

    actually..

    Europe > USA

i'm glad to be a Parisian!

  • @iPodVideo99 yet you named yourself after an American product. Smart.

  • @ceelo4

Nobody asked for your opinion, assclown!

have 200 more greasy hamburgers douchebag.

  • @iPodVideo99 someone sounds angry.

  • wht's the name of the bakary???

anyone knows where in paris it is?

  • Hi Im french and Im glad to see so much people like French and France.

  • Anthony speaks the truth. I wish more people were as open minded as he is.

I fell in love with Paris as soon as I got out of the plane, and I can't wait to go back. But next time I vow to do less touristy things and more of what the local people do on a regular basis.

  • That's what I like about Bourdain. As a smart-mouthed cynic, he is remarkably well read and insightful. Unlike other celebrity chefs, he doesn't give two shits for appearances, there is no pretense or insincerity. And from that dogged dedication to sincerity, comes profundity.

  • Anthony says it best, the Europeans do know how to enjoy life more. Slow things down, take the time to enjoy the things you do. Food should be enjoyed, not feared. Our lives are should be spent spoiling ourselves and each other with life's joys.

  • Something truly admirable about the French. Rather than go through the motions, they instinctively know how to stop and take it all in, to make the most of the moment...honestly, I'd just as soon choose one of those chairs & little tables over any resort any day, easily. Beautiful.

  • I can't believe it !!!! this was my teacher in Cordon Bleu Paris .... He loves what he does !!! his blown sugar work is spectacular !!!

  • still blows my mind that i'm actually living here now. <3 <3 <3

  • Well as a culinary student, I want to work as a baker. Sure the pay is poor and yes you have to get up at 2am (and finish 12 noon) monday-friday (or saturday) and you don't have a good social life though the idea of 'working in the shadows of the 24 hour day', and I love fresh bread (can't beat it taste, look and smell wise unlike mass produced crap). I would like to work in Paris/France perhaps also one day as a baker

  • There is no more heavenly smell than the smell of fresh bread.

In my old house there was a bakery (not remotely compared to the french, though), and every afternoon at 7, the yard always smelled like bread. It was awesome.

  • mmm fresh bread... an amazing thing.

  • That boulanger was such a hottie! A man works hard, smiles much and loves pride in his work and life. Mr. Bourdain is right. I had no idea he was so sentimental about it. He can seem a bit arrogant on some other interviews. He knows his food and culture. What class!

  • and Americans are idiots who can't even spell to put someone down...it's pussies you moron!

  • lol

  • @doetim Hey, now. Not all us Americans are idiots who fail in spelling. <_< So shove off.

  • Omg I LOL at bread

  • That last part was very touching. You can tell Mr. Bourdain has a special place in his heart for the French. I would imagine this is something all good chefs share: a deep honor for French sensuality especially as it applies to food. As an American, I was deeply saddened by the anti-French mania that transpired during the Bush era. It was refreshing and courageous to hear Mr. Bourdain challenge that ignorant nonsense.

  • omg I have to go to that bakery!

  • omg i cant stay here in america anymore this isnt how life should be lived it should be lived just like how anthony says at the end of this episode. thats happiness and bliss at least to me it is!

  • i love my country but i think we all have our views and opinions on things and thats mine.

  • You can't say it's the best country in the world unless you can proove it. I love living here but that is because living in the US works for me Just because It's apropriate for MY needs doesnt mean that it's the best for everyone. It's so childish and immature to say "We have the greatest country in the world". It's a matter of personal taste so you best be trolling when you say this shit.

  • You are so right! The East Europeans and French have far more balance of life, appreciation for culture. They are brilliant people and I feel those who slam French don't know what it's about.

  • i studied in swiss for 3 yrs n worked in geneva...its the french part of swiss...n its great jus sitten in a cafe n drinken coffee n chillen...im goin bak in december...absolutely luv europe

  • How early do they get up to take part in this wonderful tradition? I myself become sad when the morning is over-best part of the day, especially with a cup of coffee and a nice pastry.

  • Best episode ever for a great show with a great host... Tre bon!

  • thats something that has always perplexed me about the French, great food, great artists ,great wine, great design, great philosophy and poetry great soccer and rugby players with silky skills bordering on ballet.

    Music fucking shocking!!!

  • great episode.

notice how they always have real glass mugs for their coffee, never some papr or plastic container like at starbuck's

  • Bourdain is hot, and i love how he talks!

  • can anybody tell me what's the name of the ending musical song... please.....!!!!

  • The title is "Ma Petite" by Jack Emblow

  • thanks!! ^^

  • The best thing in the world is drinking a glass of red wine and smoking a joint with your girlfriend by a lakeside after 8 hours of hard work.

  • I like the french country side, paris is so expensive..

  • ..but you may also love life, and ultimately- the world.

excuse me, there must have been some pollen in the air.. during that last scene *sniff*

  • I'm in college right now and I have to say people really don't understand how to life in American Society. We are hedonistic in the wrong sense; not that hedonism is wrong, but look at the differences in how Americans seek pleasure and what the French do to seek happiness.

Sitting outside, enjoying the sun and weather and a nice drink or food and company is something I rarely ever see here. There is always a purpose here.

  • right, not like australians..they own, big time

  • Life is beautifull

  • Wow...this was the most amazing NR I've seen yet. I'm glad Tony did it sans guide, so we get to hear him, his thoughts, without distraction.

  • Anthony Bourdain > all other travel or cooking shows

  • nice :) +1

  • "...and eat a ham sandwich... really eat a ham sandwich."

  • Thanks for sharing the wonderful show with Us.

  • Wow you know there are artists in all fields and that man is an artist in the baking world smiles and those baked goodies look soo good right now ahhhhhhhhh.

The senses are soo often forgotten in Our own country and We sacrifice them for need to get somewhere in a hurry and not stop and smell the roses and ejoy the flavor of truely good food and drink.

Happily even in America one can find a good street Cafe once in awhile and just sit down and actualy live peacefully for a while.

  • CHRISTMAS day in PARIS!

wow that looked fun, and do agree with the French's food for thoughts
