@623058 the 40 second clock was only ever used on the 9.30am junction, this was introduced when C4 became independent and didn't have to fill from 9.25 like they used to, so C4 put in an ad break and went to schools at near enough 9.30 and not 9.25.
@623058 Yep it should definitely be 40. I'm guessing it's an inaccuracy in the recreation, unless C4 made an exception for the last day. I'm sure they wouldn't have missed those 20 precious seconds of ad revenue..!
I started school in autumn 1992 when this was still being used. I remember we used to watch a programme called Time For Maths and when this came on beforehand everyone used to clap along to the music
Classic! I remember these. I was a child in the late 80s and early 90s so remember growing up with these. The 60 second countdown was SO memorable.
I remember watching an old VHS in a Science lesson at school in 2001. That played, and the teacher wasnt paying attention so someone snuck up to the front and rewound the tape so we could watch it again!
@dctim I used to love the roto music too! I think we werent allowed but still loved it! You can get the full music to both The Journey and Just a Minute on Sub TV! I put the Journey on my ipod and that was fab to listen to on atrain journeys , may put both tunes back!
Most of the roto/clock sequences from itvschools are recreations, IIRC he borrowed the master tapes and keyed his own captions (recreated based on actual junctions) over the clean sequence. Note the distinctly modern sharpness to the captions which can only be achieved using modern equipment. The original captions were more aliased and 80's-looking, and often subtly changed in appearance (no doubt depending on which cap gen was used.)
@jx866 More than that even, for some he recreated them entirely (i.e. the roto model, the clock, everything) which is much more than just the captions. I remember very clearly him speaking about the effort he put into these recreations which he did as the original tapes weren't good enough so it's by far more resplendent and sharp that this somewhat fuzzy video shows. Apparently those videos and more are due back at TV Ark at sometime, hope they pop up soon.
@TheIdentCritic . Many thanks for your message. The part that I like is the tune "Just a minute," To me it is a supurb piece of music. Have a nice Xmas.
I loved listening to this tune when I was repairing TVs and VCRs in the 80s. Of course the programmes were just as good. There was also good music with the test cards. Unfortunately the good times don't last for ever.
My word I'm glad to see this online! That music with the 60 second count down was legendary! Certainly makes me feel nostalgic about my childhood. Now I'm 28 I'm really starting to miss all that stuff lol.
I had no idea this was used up to as late as 1993. I remember seeing this a lot when I was at primary school so it was definately around before 1988. Groundbreaking bit of CGI for that time!
A change in the Broadcasting act. In 1993 Channel 4 went totally Independent from ITV (despite the fact they would continue cross promoting for another 5 years), so ITV dropped their Schools commitments and Channel 4 took over them.
I'd love it if Channel 4 just randomly put this on again, leaving everyone wondering, "Why the hell is there a gay 90s tune playing in this advert?!" (I actually really like that music - for shame.)
Gotta admit I'd love it if C4 showed this again sometime randomly out of the blue - even 2 or 3 times just to get the public curiosity going. These days there are tons of kids that are like wild animals. Hell, my generation wasn't perfect but we grew up on this stuff and we've not turned out nearly as bad as the current generation of youngsters!
Ah the jingle with the circle logo......... good childhood memories..........

If I recall, this intro was designed to help teachers prepare their students for the upcoming programmes.
I remember sitting down to watch Stop, Look, Listen 2mins before the start. This jingle will always be remembered.
