its not that hard... and a lot cheaper than having someone do it for you, especially if you can get a cheap battery somwhere. i got a 1100mAh battery on ebay buy it now for 6.89 with free shipping, and it works great
Just managed to change battery on my ipod. Opened the cover gently using a knife (be careful!) Used a replacement battery from ebay, and it was all good. Open from the bottom edges, away from the screen and make sure that when you put it back together, the memory is still connected as it isn't secured in place (top right corner, opposite the battery connection)
Ipod uses Li-ion (or Lipo) batteries... which means, the battery lives as long as mother nature decides. What I mean... They do NOT break with many charge circles, BUT the break steadily over time, using 'em or not doesn't have any effect, so you better buy "fresh" batteries...
I have replaced batteries on a 2nd Gen iPod and also a Mini. Not all that hard. Kits include battery, nylon (non-marring) tools, and a video. Got mine from Sonnet but there are other companies also. Not all that big of a deal.
I've got the "grudge" against Mac and iPods, so I'm never going to buy one... Not that I even like the iPod. I just hate the controls and the circley touch pad. I prefer my Dell DJ (discountinued) and soon-to-get Toshiba Gigabeat.
Get a very small flat head screwdirver and you can prize the iPod open and then replace the battery. All the parts will be included with the kit (pads, etc.) Hope this helps!
He's boring...

It will cost you $250 to have Apple change it! IPODS suck and will never own one. There are many reasons why i hate them.

I wish that Ipod would just have made something that ran on a couple double A or tripple A nickel metalk hydride batteries.

^__^ Ah Ipod. I got a ChiPod. It's a toss of the dice with ebay sellers, but you can get a cheap phone battery as a replacement.
