  • Very nicely played.

  • very cantabile...haha, you make it look so easy!!

i hope i can play like that some day...

  • Nice play and groovy, if it could be noises reduced more better.

  • Awesome job! Sounds like a difficult piece played expressively well. Love the winter feel that it emits. Can't wait to hear you on uke :D

  • @ukuleleoversoul ah, thank you so much! I'm so honored you commented on my video :] your comment made me smile.

  • If I didn't know better, I'd think Argerich was playing for the first minute or so. Congrats on bringing this piece to such a high level.

  • @demosj Ah, there's no way you can even compare me to her! She is simply GENIUS. Thank you so much though! This comment made my night. :)

  • @demosj Totally agree... For your age and the way that you conduced the piece, you deserve a huge congratulations! Few people have this kind of touch and felling for this hard piece

  • BEAUTIFULL PIECE..BEAUTIFULL PLAYING...BEAUTIFULL GIRL

  • @McCoyTynerFourths Haha, thank you :)

  • Don't stress over any rushing!!!

    This performance is incredibly musical.

    Be proud.

    Blessings to you.

    fgb

  • @fgbowen Thank you so much! :) :)

  • I'm 18 and the best I can play is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Beautifully done though. :3

  • @mongooseinabox hahaha, there's no shame in being a virtuoso at playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. It's a classic!

  • Wtf!! As a pianist i say wow!!!!! its unbelivable playing..LoL This chinese chick is amazing.!!!^^

  • @chanheeable LOL! Thanks so much! but I am Taiwanese ;)

  • I don't know why but this music makes me think of old disney movies like Snow White and Bambi... no offence, it means I like it :) and the sound is absolutely beautiful, great job!!

  • @LOHCWijf14 haha, thanks so much! :) It's awesome that it makes you think that.. Music affects everyone in a different way and that's just how it affects you.

  • whoa... by now, you probably have this piece down! :D this is amazing!!

  • @iloveclams haha, I stopped playing this piece a bit after that recital and moved on to others.. but thank you!

  • Really good! Yes you were rushing but there are no much performances in which the singing part is so clearly audible. A little slower and deeper and ravel would be proud to. Brava :)

  • @xluve Thank you so much! And thanks for the advice, though I definitely can't play this piece this well anymore... I'll save the advice for the future!

  • haha you are right about making tons of mistakes and rushing the entire piece, but hey, it's impressionistic music :) thanks for the impression though, i'm using it for college admission :)

  • @ryanthe Ah wow, good luck!! Which colleges did you apply to?

  • wow =D what you do is absolutely amazing =D seems like you're born to play piano =)) I loved it !

  • @guiguivoiron Thank you so much!!! :D

  • you suck. thumbs up.

  • @xxbluejay21 Thanks Jihoon. hahaha. :)

  • Who is your teacher?

  • @modpiano Michelle Lin from Pleasanton, CA. I attribute all my skill to her-- she's an AMAZING teacher! I've taken lessons from her since I was 5 years old.

  • Just fourteen? Really impressive. Mistakes are nothing: you have a great talent.

  • @mebbio Thank you so much!

  • Wow... I'm 14 and I would be really proud if I could play this at all

  • @gmpeck322 You can! It just takes lots and lots of practice.. and PATIENCE. :|

  • Your giving me chills! :L haha

  • @spiritsrider Haha thanks!

  • a fantastic performance.... wonderful flowing phrases. So few pianists really know how to play with great dynamic contrasts like in this performance. She didn't let her mistakes disrupt the flow of the piece at all. Bravo!

  • wtf? change your description, and your average will shoot from 4 stars to 5 stars

  • This is a HARD piece to play..! i wouldn't expect it from anybody less than college age.

It sounds "watery" and flowing, but the cross handed playing and delicate touch required make this brutally hard to play.

The only thing,. Chlohxo, is to NOT aggressively talk about all the "mistakes" you made...a person of your talent should NEVER have to apologize for sharing.

I posted my Je D'eaux improv here too.

  • @radiokid2 Thank you so much for all your kind words :) You are amazing at the piano, and your YouTube channel is awesome!

  • I'm 15 and I've tried to play this but,, I can just do the first two rows

-.-'' I know how difficult it is,, you're really good-

    (sorry for mistakes, I'm italian)

  • @aicha345 Ah, you will learn it eventually. :D I have faith in you. I bet you have it down by now!

  • the hell? dude this is amazing. I'm 15 and ive been working on this thing FOREVER you got it down amazing!!!

  • Thanks so much. I worked a long time on this piece too. Just be patient! Eventually it will all come together... eventually... :) and then you will feel AWESOME.

  • well..I've wasted my life.

  • Uff... You are 14... Me too... And I never could play that... (Well, is true I've studied piano or anything, but anyway) When I think "I'm great" I see you and I think "I'm shit"

  • Haha, no! Everyone has their own talents! Plus, I bet you're not too shabby on the piano :P

  • Thanks. Now that I read again my comment, I see one mistake: I wanted to say "It's true that I've NOT studied piano or anything, but anyway". I'm thinking if I must learn a bit this summer... Thanks by the video and sorry about my English xD

  • @sasunarulab 14 years and saying those things...once you said "i can't do it" you kill the hope...try it hard, practise, you have a lot of years to live and i'm sure you can do it if you try...maybe not now...maybe not later, tomorrow or the next week...but someday you could do it.

  • One should play what one dominates, especially on stage.

  • This is a very difficult song as well as a beautiful one. An amazing accomplishment at your age.

  • Thanks so much :D

  • I love this interpretation.

  • Thank you!

  • actually that's a fine tempo, or at least I think it is...

  • if richter could play it faster than this well, this is a good tempo.

  • @Csibon13 lol. i guess.... wow, that was such a piano knowledge question that i didn't know how to respond to that. best i could come up with was "lol. i guess." i don't know much about piano. i mean, yeah, i played it since i was 3 or 4, but i stopped like 3 years ago, and i wasn't even very good either, so.... i don't look up pianists very often or analyze their playing styles....

    wow, that comment sorta erupted...

  • Comment removed

  • Oh this is wonderful. You have so much technic. How is this possible with only 14 years? Great.

  • years are not the most important factor. It's dedication and practice. With hard work a person who has been playing for 10 years can play better that a person who's been playing for 20

  • wow. lol. thats it. i've been playing for about 14-15 years (my mother keeps switching when i started. 3 1/2 or 2 1/2) anyhow, i'm totally planning on playing this for a college audition for my contemporary piece. and you did amazing (: love it.

  • wow girl, im in awe!!

after 13 years of playing i still dont even dare to touch this piece..... i hope i can one day play jeux d'eaux at this level

  • OH WOW this is wonderful! i'm working on it right now. it may be a little fast, but you know, the fact that you can play it so flawlessly at that speed is amazing. Haha it's so hard! :-D

  • Trust me, it's not that flawless... after a few months of working on the piece, come back and listen to it again. You'll hear all the mistakes then. XD Thanks very much for the compliment though!

  • Apparently my first comment didn't go through. Anyway, your performance is absolutely stunning.

I would feel honored if you'd indulge me-- How old were you when you started playing? How many hours a day did you practice when you first started playing? Were your parents strict on you? Did you take lessons everyday?

I don't mean to offend you with all the questions. I'm just so curious; you're so freaking talented!

  • wow this is amazing, i wish i could play as well as this! you are extremely talented! :)

  • oh gawd, i love this piece. i don't know much about piano, being a violinist, but as far as i can tell, you play beautifully. :)

  • Very nice. sub'd

  • what a beautiful piece!!!!!! Plus you play it with a TON of feeling!!!! usually when i get on stage i get all shaky and can't play well!! Really beautifully done!

  • aww that happens to me, too :P I'd played this song for a long time, so I wasn't as scared. and the more performances you do, eventually you get less afraid. :o) --and usually the audience is dumb. if you mess up, they usually can't tell, if you don't show it. ;) so don't get too scared of messing up!

  • How long have you been playing? You really sound great! I've been playing for 11ish years but the hardest thing i can pull off is Barcarolle...hmm and how do you mainly practice? Do you do more reading or more memorization or just play through old songs?

  • I've been playing for about 10.5 years. how do I practice? umm, I usually play about 5-6 pieces at a time, and I practice those for several months until I perform them (CM testing, competitions, etc). then I discard them for new ones and it basically goes through the same cycle :P I usually don't play through old pieces unless I'm bored, hahah. it doesn't help your current pieces anyway. what do you mean by "reading"?

  • like just reading notes.....totally my weak spot. Well ur really really good!!!

  • that is pretty awesome for a 14 year old i must say

  • ah...i remember playing this piece...good ol' days!

  • responds to a slow performance in that it is a pavane for a dead princess, not pavane of a dead princess.

Regardless of your mistakes, this is a solid performance for your age. Bravo.

  • Thanks for the advice, criticism, and funny info :D I appreciate your comment. if I play this piece again, I'll definitely take your words into consideration.

  • Have you ever listened to Vlado Perlemuter's recording? He pushes the tempo even more than you at around eighth=176, but frankly, after listening to his recording, I think Ravel's eighth=144 is too slow. You have a tempo in between the two, and I would not criticize you for it. Remember that Ravel scorned a performance of this piece that was too slow, which to him made the music seem sad. It seems other Ravel pieces have the same problem like Pavane pour une Infante Defunte, when Ravel jokingly

  • Hey, pianist girl, will you marry me?

  • Why on EARTH is she playing this on a piano??!!!!! Haven't you ever heard of a tuba? DUHHHHH!!!

  • You would totally destroy me if I dared to go against u in piano playing (o.o)

    Awesome Job!

  • Dear, this is the best playing of this piece that I've heard until now. I personally that this piece shouldn't be played so fast, but you play it very very good, nevermind your minimal mistakes, we all do mistakes =) Keep the good work!

  • You can listen Argerich or Richter performance.

It is very, very difficult piece! Congratulation ;) How long you play this piece?

  • At this time I had been playing it for ~7-8 months. and thanks!

  • how many hours a day do you practice, your technique is excellent.

  • Thanks! I officially practice about an hour a day, but during most of that time I just fool around ;3

  • I think I knew some major scales at 14. Lol

  • You did very well with this.

  • What marvelous fingers! This sounds wonderful. Few mistakes, but that's what makes us humans. You're on the right track. You've already accomplished a lot. Keep it up, and post more videos!

  • Christine, nice playing! Such a modest girl with so much potential. keep it up :)

  • I really liked your interpretation of that =D

    congratulations!

  • Very very difficult piece. You have great sound like real water.

  • Thanks so much :)

  • Even the greatest of all pianists makes mistakes on stage.

    Well done, Christine.

  • Many thanks :)

  • good for posting this on youtube. Most musicians are too self-conscious and egotistical. You are definitely exceptional. Keep it up.

  • Thanks so much for the kind comment :D comments like yours truly make my day.

  • i dunno y thay didn't give you any prizes lol

  • haha, eh, I played it a lot worse at the competition.

  • Very nice Christine! I enjoyed your performance.

  • Thank you! : )

  • I say BRAVO!!!! really that's a very difficult piece ! great job

  • Thanks :P I certainly can't play it that well anymore... hahaha

  • This isn't a song; it's a piece. Just thought I'd let you know...

  • err, thank you for the highly thoughtful comment... on my description. Hahaha, but seriously. I didn't catch that. Thanks.

  • have you won any competitions with this piece?

  • Actually no. I tried a competition with this piece.. a good two months before this video. And failed, of course, because I wasn't prepared and had hardly memorized it. :/ dunno if I would've received anything if I played at this level.

  • La chica aprendió a tocarla, pero no es tan sensible al hacerlo porque no demuestra la delicadeza necesiaria para sentir la magia de esta composición.

  • Creo q

  • You're amazing.

How long did it take for you to learn it?

  • aw thanks, not really though. um.. I started practicing it beginning-ish of January last year. And this was in June last year.

  • I think the tempo is ok.listen to the recording by Robert Casadesus, who was a friend

of Ravel and knew better about some of the composer`s intentions than others.he did not play slower.

  • Thanks!

  • Wooaahhhhohoho, ha. Good job!!

  • aw thanks :]

  • ummm u are an AMAZING pianist!! :)

  • Thanks so much! :)

  • good job on song that is a you know what to learn

  • Haha thanks so much :)

  • for some reason everybody plays jeux d'eau so fast, don't get me wrong i love your playing, it's just that it's sounds much better when it is playd slower...

  • I dunno, I just thought it was the tempo that felt right, and it was the tempo for which the song was written. So yeah, everyone has different opinions I suppose. Thanks for the criticism (and praise) though! :D

  • it's a tad fast but it's about the right tempo, no problem ^^

I think with time, people got used to this speed and now enjoy some originality like playing slower to emphasize on some specific notes, bring out new "colors"..

Speed aside, maybe it could use a bit of softening at times... but it's a matter of tastes I guess^^

Anyway this is a really really great performance for a very difficult piece, congratulations!

  • Yeah, I was pretty nervous x( and my tone was pretty bad sometimes. But it was a lot of fun to learn (after getting through actually learning the notes XD) P:

  • who is this girl?

    shes horrible...

    LOL

    jk!!!

    this is so awesome!!

  • oh my goodness. That was so amazing i just peed a little. SERIOUS SKILLS GIRLFRIEND!

  • Thanks HAHA :) your comment just made my day.

  • WooW perfect! Congrats! I am a musician too (guitarist, composer and drummer) and i really liked what i heard. You must have practiced a lot and the result is: Perfect :) Cool! --by the way i am from DA with the same nick. Cheers.

  • Thanks so much, I greatly appreciate your nice words. See you on dA! :)

  • I'm 31 and trying to learn piano ... I wish I could play a fraction as well as you can. Your performance is very pleasant to listen to!

  • Thank you so much :) I wish you the best of luck on piano! It's a wonderful instrument.

  • Good try, but there are quite a few wrong notes, and it is quite messy. May I suggest some slower practising to clean up a lot of it. Nice colour tones. Good effort and congrats!

  • Yeah, haha, I got quite tired of the song by the end so I kind of stopped practicing it. Thanks for the advice! Slower practicing is what my teacher always tells me to do, but I never listen.. here's another reason for me to listen to her! :P

  • 14 years old

    with this piece

    A M A Z I N G !!!

    keep tryin'

  • Thanks ^_^

  • Not being a pianist, or anything. I just love good piano, I thought it was great! How did you do in the competition?

  • Thanks! Haha, this wasn't a competition :) just a recital. But I was last to play! XD

  • you were great, but at the end you didn't let us know you were done. I am not trying to critisize you at all. Just take your time at the end and ritard. Let it just evaporate into nothing. Other than that I thought you were amazing

  • I thought it was supposed to be like that.. like, in the music it said to keep the tempo throughout the end. Oh well, thanks for the tip :)

  • Nice job. You've learned some wrong notes around 50 seconds. Hahaha. I'm picky, I'm sorry, but it was good anyways.

  • Whoops, haha. I don't remember if that was a memorization problem or if I just learned the wrong thing - this was a while ago, and I pretty much forgot the entire song by now. But thanks for the alert :)

  • Hahaha. I think you learned it wrong, because it happens three times consecutively. Lol. Good rythmic drive, nice color, and clarity. I think it could've been cleaner though. What're you playing these days?

  • Oh darn. Can you point it out to me? :P

Right now I'm playing The Island of Pleasure by Debussy. Actually, it's at performing level right now but I have a couple competitions coming up so I'm keeping it on hold, haha. For my June recital, I just began a really easy piece (also by Debussy) called Gardens in the Rain. My teacher suggested it, but I kind of want a harder piece because I'm having no trouble learning it (and that always means it's not hard enough! :P) haha. I suppose you play piano?

  • Totally sweet! I am pretty sure all the music people like Dr. Pivec and Dr. Afonso are very proud of you.

  • Thanks! Do you go to CSUS?

  • Very Beautiful. The only thing I don't like it's the tempo: too much "regular", Methronomic.

    :-)

  • Thanks! Yeah, I suppose, I'll make sure to think of that for my current piece. :) thanks for the input!

  • that's not a compliment.. just telling the truth about how i felt when i first saw u playing.. i fell in love in every part of you.

  • you're 'pretty 'sure? i dun care if you're 'pretty' sure of him being better...

all i know is you're 'pretty'.. and I'm 'pretty' sure that I'm attracted by a young and 'pretty' girl like you.. I'm 'pretty' sure that if given a chance I'll marry you..

  • Haha.. thanks? That's a little random :) but I'll take it as a compliment.

  • Excellent! I wish my kids will be able to play well like you in the future.

  • Aw thank you so much!

  • Nicely done. This piece is deceptively difficult. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks :)

  • Wow! You are better than the legendary Max Loh!

  • Nooo, are you kidding me? haha.

  • whoaaaa this is pro-material!!!

at what age did you start playing the piano??

  • Haha thanks.

I started playing when I was 6 years old :)

  • I think it's the speed that's really impressing here...you may not have intended it to go this fast, but it's more of a wow factor like this!

  • i started 7.. so you're definately better 6_6

  • Aww no, one of my friends started piano when he was 8. He had a LOT of determination, and I'm pretty sure that by now he's better than me. XD

  • You've got the talent and you've got the skill...the next step is...balance. And that will come with experience i do believe!!!

  • Yeah, my balance wasn't too great with this piece. But thank you! :)

  • Wow what a lovely girl and so well played!

  • Thanks.

  • Even with the rushing and all that unimportant stuff such small mistakes(which Horowitz used to do all the time), I found it perfect.

And you are pretty beautiful, young lady =)

  • Great! :) I wish I could do that...

  • what a virtuoso performance!

i can't help but clap with the crowd at the end.

  • Despite the rushing and mistakes which you pointed out yourself, it's got personality.

    good job. :)

  • wow
