  • Great kit.

  • Very good video. One thing I would add (besides some Off! for mosquitos) would be sunblock. I've spent many a day in the glades, and protecting yourself from exposure is definitely something you want to take care of.

  • @burgers4breakfast

Good way to both carry some emergency repair material, and also protect the thin plastic 2ltr bottles from accidental puncture. Great multipurpose item.

  • Nice basic kit, not overdone like most, the only thing I would add in the Everglades is about 12 cans of bug spray, lol. I also think of my phone as a survival tool. my phone has gps, an led light, all my digital survival books, a book on edible plants, army survival manual, and even an SAS survival app, yep, I think my iphone is an intrical part of my kit. Even if no signal, I have gps and survival information onhand. Of course I live in NY, so I am rarely in an area with zero signal

  • Born in raised in the Everglades. How did u like that rhyme?

  • Nice video. I completed the same trail a few years ago. The trail was very wet that year, probably 12 miles of thick mud and water. It took me 16 hours over two days to finish.

  • Former military?

  • Well done, I live in Florida also & did a nice Everglades hike by the Skunk Ape Headquarters last year, although just a short day trip of maybe 8 miles or so.

Anyone know of a good video that explains Florida survival edibles & the like?

  • It is the same with scuba almost ALL NEW divers use a and train with dive computers they couldn't dive with just a compass and dive tables

  • Why are the water bottles covered in tape?

  • @Burgers4Breakfast If i had to guess he wrapped them in that shiny duct tape to reflect the suns rays keeping his water colder, even if just by a few degrees.

  • @OldCapitalComics And to add strength to the bottles.

  • I will NEVER have to do that in Florida. I am in Florida and in case of disaster (hurricane), I will try to stay home with my emergency kit. Out there, there are TONS of mosquito, Snake, Bugs, Gators .. humid, sticky and just nasty.

  • What, no sleeping gear? No mosquito net in the Everglades?

  • Good video,I agree about the GPS units. Although they are useful, nothing takes the place of a good compass and the knowledge to use it. I live in FL and the glades can be a tough. place to navigate.

  • Pocket bushman sucks balls.

  • Very Informative video. This helped me with preparing my BOB.Thank you for sharing.

  • I was wondering why you don't use a medium to large sheath knife and also why you don't have a snake bite kit/pump?

  • The folding Bushman is a large enough knife, all that I would need would be the leatherman tool. If I was going out for an extended trip I might carry an axe/ heavy machete or Spetsnaz shovel for clearing brush/choping and digging etc. Snake bite kit etc. most snakes/animals will avoid you, I travel with the minimum amout of kit, and stay aware, if you carry all the "what if kit" your pack would weight a ton.

  • it probly is more than enough knife but theres nothing like a good fixed blade by your side

  • Nice vid, I'm planing a few night stay in the local woods here in NW Florida, with just the bare nec; ie no shelter, no food. Know any good places for info?

  • Very nice video! Very helpful. I do small hikes through babcock ranch in south Florida. plan on staying over night with a small survival pack and sleeping arrangement. gotta love rice and MREs!!!! lol
