The reason Mick Collins negotiated the Treaty in the first place because he more than anyone else new you had to deal with the British from a postion of strength he new at that particular time that the Republican Force's where stretched to the limit and that they could not go on much longer,the British where not aware of how bad the situation had got So Collins done the only thing he could have done at that time,gained a stepping stone for eventual independance a Free State

Éamon & Michael Collins could have organized the most effective, deadliest guerrilla warfare force in history to win back the 6 Counties of N. However it depends on whether you choose to grow up gracefully or not. Unlike NI today where a minority party in SF has enjoyed equal power sharing status. Only democratic country in Europe where this occurs.
