okay the main difference between future trunks from dbz and dbgt trunks is that gt trunks grew up mostly in times of peace, if you think about it trunks was a baby during the cell saga and 7 years later he fought buu but after lived in peace until gt began but future trunks from dbz grew up training because of the androids and surviving with his mentor gohan. so future trunks had to train most of his life while gt trunks lived in times of peace most of his life so obviously hell be weaker

Seeing gohan Dead sent trunks over the edge so he transformed,much like when goku watched Krillin die. but it seems the half breed sayians are able to transform much quicker then the full blooded sayians. but in trunks' case he was pretty close to becoming a super sayian earlier in this movie so it wasnt a far drive from him.

From the looks of the fight it looked like Gohan had a bit of a power advantage against the androids, its just that he had no way of guarding the side where he had lost his arm and got worn down. If Trunks had gone SSJ before the fight and Gohan had let him help, maybe he could have destroyed at least one of the Androids
