@haroliyk Steve Vai blows...listened to nearly everything hes done and it sounds annoying more than anything. Try some satriani if you want a real electric style fix.
Maybe the guitar is perfectly tuned, the aliasing from the recorder (listen to the applause) is most likely the culprit for the less than pristine sound ... Tony's a great player and great guy ...
this song is great saw him play this live on the 16th of this month he was playin with andy mckee and another guitarist cant remember his name but at the end they played together playing tears for fears '' everybody wants to rule the world ''
bloody 'ell!!...had forgotten about the mcmanus!!...ur cd was playing in the royal oak in edinburgh...beautiful music as usual...will buy cds of urs when hav enuf cash...rowena from edinburgh
Unfortunate that his guitar is so far out of tune. This alone removes the luster from his superb playing. Perhaps the poster of this video could produce a better (in tune) performance?
Yeah I agree. The out-of-tune guitar is about the only downside I see in this clip. Well it happens to everyone. Especially with a capo and the guitar tuned down.
Well yup, they're great!! But what I meant, actually, was it was the best jazz solo guitar, instead of jazz guitar solo! I don't think there's such "best jazz solo" but well, anyway, I mean I loved that rendition for solo guitar. :D
great. glad you enjoyed it. I think of this piece as a player of traditional music applying that knowledge to a tune outwith that tradition. it's not really jazz in the sense that there's really no improvisation but it's such a great melody how could one resist!
As the player in question I'm flattered that you rate it highly. my point about the metheny solo is that I DIGESTED every note of this only to recently hear another gig from the same tour and Pat's solo is totally different!
Great!! Yup, you're right, it's not exactly a jazz interpretation once there's no improv (I actually wouldn't ever think of jazz otherwise). I should think a little more and chose words better, right? :D
As for Metheny's solo, I'm already in search for it, this song's so great! I've already heard McLaughlin's once, but somehow it didn't catch me. I'm used to listening to Jeff Beck's version and... woah, I love it!
No, but there are lots of great guitars being built these days and Larrivee has a great legacy both from their own output and from former apprentices; Manzer, Laskin, Morgan, etc.
nero, its obviously the sound quality of the camcorder thats making the guitar sound so tinny not a lack of quality. although the guitar is slightly out of tune in my opinion...
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!
I thought a double bassist did the bass notes on this track - Not by the looks of things, I have seen plenty of fingerstyle guitarists yet I have seen none with such confidence, dexterity, perfection, with such slick solo work than I have seen now. That was awe inspiring. Nice one Tony.
What an amazingly dexterous take on one of my favourite Charlie Mingus tunes. Makes me wonder what I did with the thirty + years I been playing guitar!
I took a class in Celtic Guitar from him at the Swanannoa gathering last summer ( and am going to take another one from him his summer). He's amazing, funny and a great teacher, too.
And like DesertChild said... Wait till he gets a few brews... he a god.
It's definitely DADGAD man - a tuning invented by one David Graham Esq. specifically to lay some jazz/blues/eastern tones on top of She Moved Thru The Fair - an old Irish tune. I usually hate pork, but I'll make an exception for just this once.
Ahh.. I remember when he was but a boy. Just goes to show what you can do if you stick to it. I'm so please to see Toags on 'ya tube'. aye now you're famous you can pay for all those windscreen wipers you broke. ;0)or was that yer big brother??!
Find the tune all over the net .... What tune? It's a meme.

I like the slightly sped up version that this is. I'm glad that this was released because I'm able to make a stab at playing it now.

It's not really too jazzy, but a very nice guitaristic way at expressing the song. I give ya 5/5.

I think Tony is up there with the very best players in the world, on par with guys like Emmanuel, Juber, REnbourn, Dykes just to name a few.
Had the chance to take sessiosn with him at a camp and watch him just tear it up at night.
