I think what he's saying is that originally marriage wasn't about love. It was usually arranged by families for their children. Women were given, along with their dowries, as gifts to the parents of the men. Throughout human history, marriage in its root form was not subject to individual choice. Rather, marriages were socially arranged - usually by the families involved - to enforce:
1) the perpetuation of the society into future generations by means of reproduction,
2) to determine inheritance rights,
3) to merge assets for raising children
At no point were individual preferences considered since society's needs took priority over individual wants.
Just because a couple can't have a baby doesn't mean that they can be married. There are heterosexual couples that can't have children together. Does that mean that they can't be married. What about people with androgen insensitivity syndrome. There are actually people that are genetically male, and they look completely female. Where do they fit in. Who the hell do they marry??? A lot of people don't fit in the gender box. There are hermaphrodites that exist too.

I think what he's saying is that originally marriage wasn't about love. It was usually arranged by families for their children. Women were given, along with their dowries, as gifts to the parents of the men. In principle, two FERTILE people can have kids. Infertile couples are in the same boat as gays. Alan, of course, BS's his way around it. America accepts those who are married and don't want/can't have kids. The obligation to have kids is no longer relevant. But god forbid we give poor kids in orphanages a home.

@deliciousmorton-I'm not racist, and i know black people better than you do. Black people in America are a dumbed down and negative people, not all, but in general. They have established a negative culture(the street culture or Hip Hop culture), which has turned most into a bunch of violent and ignorant buffoons. There are two types of blacks that make black people look bad, the Ghetto Blacks, and old school racial minded black men like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

I'll prove it.
Throughout human history, marriage in its root form was not subject to individual choice. Rather, marriages were socially arranged - usually by the families involved - to enforce:
1) the perpetuation of the society into future generations by means of reproduction,
2) to determine inheritance rights,
3) to merge assets for raising children
At no point were individual preferences considered since society's needs took priority over individual wants.
Keyes is right.

Just because a couple can't have a baby doesn't mean that they can be married. There are heterosexual couples that can't have children together. Does that mean that they can't be married. What about people with androgen insensitivity syndrome. There are actually people that are genetically male, and they look completely female. Where do they fit in. Who the hell do they marry??? A lot of people don't fit in the gender box. There are hermaphrodites that exist too.

That was awesome! Keyes actually has a brain and can speak! And his answer was anything but BS, it was extrememly intelligent. If the potential to procreate is what gave rise to the institution of marraige in the first place, then the ability to procreate (in principle) is irrelevant. He's exactly right! Two men can't have a baby, therefore, why get married? What's the point? Bravo Mr. Keyes.

U mentioned the fact that marriage is just based on physical attraction in 1:23, logically if people were just attracted to each other physically then what is the point in the marriage? You are true in saying that there has to be physical attraction sure, but the point of a marriage is to be able to institute a family unit, and Mr. Keyes is saying in order to create a natural family unit a man and woman must be joined together, he stated this with no biggotry or bashing, he is only stating fact.

And in the words of Jesus "Thou without sin cast the first stone, love your enemies" etc. So just don't go back to the old testament as we're nowhere near those times anymore. Try to hold something against God according to the New Testament. Since we're not living the Old Testament, you wouldn't understand the reasons for how things were back then. For 1, Jesus hadn't come yet.

Marriage is the issue here, we should question what does mean, what does marriage has done to our society, and what is doing now. This is the actual problem, and that's what both are looking over. But at least Keyes immediately identify it and defend it.
During the middle ages, ongoing debates about the Christianity of people that have bird's heads was a serious and legit topic.
