It's amazing when you think of it how many times the scarf has been useful. It's been used as another distraction in Deadly Assassin episode and used to trip over a certain arch nemisis in Logoopolis. I wish I would have met Tom Baker. But I probably won't be able to now he's older. But I did meet McCoy in 1989.

Excellent video, The first scarf was knitted by an old lady in wimbledon named Begonia Pope & was so excited to work for the BBC she knitted up all the wool the costume designer sent (who knew nothing about knitting so sent a truck load) & when he & Tom Baker went to her little house Tom Baker says they couldn't get in because of the scarf

The scarf started out at 13 1/2 feet and as the series went on it got shorter starting from 12, 10 1/2, and then 10 feet. Then it had a couple of growth spurts and went to 17 feet then to 20 feet. The last scarf Baker had was a burgandy scarf that was 20 feet but by the end of his run it had been stretched out to 24 feet.
