  • HE IS THE DIAMOND OF THE WORLD

  • The real star of this version is Lee Holridge the arranger--at the end he takes the song to a whole new depth...listen people.

  • Neil Diamond used to write good songs ...so sad that he no longer does so.

  • HE IS A DIAMOND IN EVERY SENSE!!!!!!! IRREPLACEBLE, HIS VOICE JUST RIPS UR GUTS AND ENTERS YOUR HEART AND SOUL, LUV U NEIL, GOD GIVE U LONG LIFE

    SHARAT MALHOTRA

  • I'm not a queer but I love Neil Diamond and this is my favourite song of all time.

  • yea i know its l cohen, but neil absolutely nailed song

  • Classic Diamond - yet another song of substance and profound depth ... rock on Neil!

  • The best version of this tune to date recorded.

  • so very nice. judy collins version ain't too shabby.

  • Still a great song , after all the years

  • This is actually a cover of Leonerd Cohen's Suzanne

  • neil has always been my fav artist and his version of this song is well i love it sooooooo much i paid to have a backing track made just so i could do a cover,, please check it out in my vids and leave a comment

  • full circle.... Neil Diamond is part of a full circle.... he does amazingly brilliant covers of others tunes and he writes the tunes that other bands cover brilliantly.... and all is well in the musical universe! Neil Diamond is one of my heroes! <3 And I love his version of this song tremendously! :)

  • At this time of the year the light in this part of the world in the south has a strange quality. It is golden, almost pure. This song reminds me of the sunsets and the long rolling hills in sweet summertime in Ardranny. So long ago now that it appears to belong to another person

  • c"est ma meilleure chanson. Je ne m"en lasse jamais

  • Amen! And, his gentleness, in a non-performing context, was SO obvious when he mentored on American Idol a year or two ago. What a man.

  • Neil Diamond had a knack for selecting suitable songs by outside writers for his albums. "Suzanne" is no exception. "Both Sides Now", "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" and "The Last Thing On My Mind" are excellent examples. The majestic orchestrations and arrangements together with Tom Catalano's production all made for splendid results. He managed to make these songs his own.

  • WOW!

  • Neil Diamond is brilliant but this song belongs to one man Leonard Cohen

  • This song reminds me of amazing times!! Alaska Thank you Neil Diamond Namaste

  • This is a nice performance. Still, in all honesty, I think Leonard Cohen, who wrote the song, performs it better than anybody else. When Cohen sings it there is a haunting quality to the song that nobody else can quite match.

  • @1kkyu But the covers are wonderful still.

  • @1kkyu nobodys trying to match anything. its homage.

  • This is one of his best!

  • This song, plus 'Morningside' and 'BROOKLYN ROADS' are, in my mind(ear maybe), 3 of his best works, but never got popular. But then.... every thing he does is great !

  • This is the result of put two fantastic musicians together; something really amazing, Thank you for everything, and god bless you.

  • ive loved this song forever, have it on my phone will never get fed up of it.

now here,s the thing. im a club singer and have trawled the net to try and

get get a backing track of neils version ive tried devocaling but no good.

would love a proper backing track ...HELP anyone Don

  • Great song and Neil sings it best! I wish I could find his song "The Drifter" on of his best and a great story as well.

  • Probably my favorite version of this song. Neil puts so much emotion into it.

  • Simply outstanding.

  • Totally amazing! Sooooo deep. I never had such an appreciation for this song until now

  • I just want to remember that "Suzanne" is on oh the best songs written by Leonard Choen.

  • he sends me to a dreamland.Loved him since 1970 my good old school days in calcutta india.

  • Sirius XM Love - Sirius 3 - XM 23 have been playing Neil Diamond for an entire week and promised to play every song on every album...of course they didn't and played to death his new album which by the way ain't bad, but I bet you they played some of his music a hundred times and that's my problem when you play one artist for an entire week breaking in every two songs with a promo...commercial free isn't interruption free and God knows they made a point of that.

  • The arrangement by (I believe) Lee Holdridge on this recording is just fantastic. The combination of that with N.D.'s voice is just an absolute home run for this version.

  • A legend like no other

  • Ritchie likes it too

  • NEIL IS KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of my favourite Leonard Cohen songs sang so beautifully by Neil, the words are just pure petry.Thank God that I share the planet with such talented people its awesome xx

  • I love Suzanne also. Have you heard KD Lang singing Hallelujah by Cohen?

  • I LOVE THIS MORE THAN LIFE BOB

  • This is the best version of this song that I've ever heard ... it goes right to your soul.

  • very good

  • well that's totally another song. i think that even chords are different.. however i prefer mr cohen...

  • i agree that hearing neil sing this song is a deeply spiritual experience. definitely the best version of this gorgeous song that anyone has done. so amazing! haunting!

  • Diamond as ever made this HIS song.

  • I was a hard rocker but I always had this album just to quietly reflect and chill. Neil Diamond does this so much better than Cohen, Even though Cohen wrote it,

  • this song takes me to another place, my youth! this is the best version, better than james taylor's ,it doesnt even come close.

    thanks for your beautiful voice,spiritual

  • @wladdaimpala88 I never tire of this song. It is almost spiritual....

  • cougarcatgirl is right

  • Absolutely the BEST rendition of this song. Can't hear it enough!

  • One of his best, from one of his best albums. Whether his own lyrics, or Cohen's is immaterial. Neil gives life to the song.

  • Neil is a Class Act. Love the guy.

    made me want to live.

got me thru some Hard times.

i actually got to hug him.

    cloud 9.

  • Many people try to cover Cohen's songs. Few do them justice. Neil pulls it off quiet well though.

  • Think the original of this was sung by Leonard Cohen - Neil Diamond has covered a few of his songs. All credit to both singers

  • wow. unbelievable song. needs to be covered. it reminds me of Jacques Brel. first time i heard it.

    1/1

  • My favorite Neil Diamond album, Stones being my favorite.

  • @bon1042 Mine too! Fabulous album!

  • NEIL SINGS IT WITH A CRY IN HIS VOICE!!

  • un maestro de las canciones románticas! está entre las minorías que perduran en el tiempo. sigue asi!

  • This poet has done an incredible wondering journey in this song.. it out does Leonard by a galaxy..... Neil has a wavelength by the river & those of us who love him will follow him blind

    Windy

    Sharat Malhotra

  • Leonard Cohen's version is the one that sends me the most -- but I loved this one a LOT before I heard Cohen's version! (Leonard Cohen also wrote the song.)

  • This version and the one by Roberta Flack are the best by a million miles!

Closely followed by Nina Simone's and James Taylor"s.

  • amazin lyrics, heart felt singing...Jesus was a sailor, lonley wooden tour, only drowning men see him, sky open, almost human, trust Him, with His mind, heros in the seaweed, children in the morning...Suzanne holds her mirror

  • they are! written by Leonard Cohen.

  • great production by Tom Catalano

  • It's really a pity Neil didn't sing songs like this one live. Very well sung by Neil. More of this quality you can find on his Rainbow cd if it is still available.

  • Wow what memories this brought back. Thanks for posting. I love him. I would follow him anywhere.

  • This cover version is the best version of Suzanne

  • I agree, and I'm a Springsteen fan, more classic rock!

But Neil has such an extraordinary voice and Ive heard a lot of versions of this song.

This is the most beautiful version Ive heard!

I'm not to big of a fan of the Internet, but youtube has been handed down as a gift of a metal temped engine world in which we live in. But there is beauty in everything that comes around in this world!

Thank God for utube and thank him for Neils voice and a beautiful version of an amazing song!

  • Ditto!!!!

  • Being a Reggae music fan ...the fellow Neil has always seemed to make complete music....classics, I do listen to his non reggae music...

  • I would have liked neil to have included a live version of this song on his hot august night recording lindsay

  • OMG John Davidson, I forgot all about him, he was an excellent singer, and very handsom in a boyish way, Thanks for the memory guys

  • Leonard Cohen wrote this beautiful and solemn song of a lost soul. Neil does this cover song the best. Priceless!

  • denelistens

you have to listen very carefully, everything about this music is so unique the organ , guitar, his voice it brings back memmorries, fantasies and one being in such a wonderful "n" beatiful place

  • I actually HUGGED ND backstage once when I was a teenager. and he was like 26. major crush. I told him he was Beautiful, and he said something to me in my ear, I didn't hear a word of it, 'WE' hugged for a few seconds...I was on Cloud 9, for all I know said 'hey, c ya back stage after he show?" I was young and cute, then.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay Coooooooooooool. At least for me it was.

This guy ROCKS! Sings from the Heart. Always has.

    CCG
