I saw Unsung last night featuring the group DeBarge and I did not realize how much adversity the family faced with domestic violence, drug abuse, sexual abuse, etc. They were such a talented group and it makes me sad to know how much they went through and continue to go through each day. I keep the family in my prayers as they continue to deal with the many issues they face in their lives.
It's simple....the 11 dislikes are the ones who knows absolutely nothing bout music, all they know is how to curse when these so-call music they have today, makes no sense that's what they like.......and who wants to challenge me on this i'm ready!!!
You can tell when singers feel the music and lyrics and Debarge, even though they had terrible personal lives, poured out their souls when they recorded.

Damn, I'm a metalhead, but I appreciated all the different genres of pop music that the 80s and 90s offered. As a kid, teenager and young adult, I was exposed to r&b, soft rock, hard rock, alternative, new wave, dance, disco, soul, and light country. I remember the days of hearing DeBarge, The Cars, Journey, Prince, Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Madonna, Diana Ross, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Kenny Rogers, The Police & Def Leppard...ALL ON THE SAME RADIO STATION!! Those were the days & I miss em :o(

@DestroyerofSouls666 That is soooooo true. Back then, radio stations did a public service by exposing people of different backgrounds to the same type of music at one time. If you are African-American and over 40, you know about the Cars, Journey, Duran Duran and so-forth and if you are are Anglo-Saxon American, you know about Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight and so-forth. The music today separates according to the style and genre. So sad!
@DestroyerofSouls666 Dude if your from NYC metro, Z100, WPLJ, and WPST were those stations, but now...you'll probably find most of those artists on Adult Contemporary (Easy Listening) stations, or Oldies. The artists you mention were all Pop cross-overs from a more disitinct genre. Unfortunately, most popular music of today is going through an identity crisis; Hip-Hop is more electronic, Pop is an R&B/Dance hybrid. We the listeners have to suffer until the next BIG thing comes along.

On Ed Lover's 17 minute interview with El which can only be heard on itunes, (google it), El said he wrote this song all by himself at age 16 and was not going to record it. He said he only recorded it because his brother Chico made him promise to record it and release it. Now, it's a classic to this day!!!!!!!

I saw Unsung last night featuring the group DeBarge and I did not realize how much adversity the family faced with domestic violence, drug abuse, sexual abuse, etc. They were such a talented group and it makes me sad to know how much they went through and continue to go through each day. I keep the family in my prayers as they continue to deal with the many issues they face in their lives.

Damn, I'm a metalhead, but I appreciated all the different genres of pop music that the 80s and 90s offered. As a kid, teenager and young adult, I was exposed to r&b, soft rock, hard rock, alternative, new wave, dance, disco, soul, and light country. I remember the days of hearing DeBarge, The Cars, Journey, Prince, Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Madonna, Diana Ross, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Kenny Rogers, The Police & Def Leppard...ALL ON THE SAME RADIO STATION!! Those were the days & I miss em :o(

I don't know if you guys noticed, but when you watch or listen to interviews of these new lack luster artists, they ask what was your fav artist? they always say oh I grew up listening to Marvin Gaye, Sade, etc and yet and still your music still sucks?! If your influences were great artists why don't you do respectable music instead they jus wanna sound cool and say the same thing. next time listen and they all mention the same artists they so called listened to as kids. Im jus bitter lol :)

Its ironic how they cite those artists, but they will still auto-tune their vocals, sample existing music, use the same beats, talk about clubbing and getting it on OVER AND OVER AGAIN, wear the same Ed Hardy shirts, the same Jimmy Choos, the same Chinese tattoos, the same shades, the same everything!!! I can't differentiate between any of these "artists". I will say tho that the record cos. are partially to blame for killing originality and being too money hungry.

I hate that my daughter has no idea what a REAL SINGER is!, but I do plan on giving her a lesson and hopefully it sticks even if it's just a few great singers and artists.

@DestroyerofSouls666 That is soooooo true. Back then, radio stations did a public service by exposing people of different backgrounds to the same type of music at one time. If you are African-American and over 40, you know about the Cars, Journey, Duran Duran and so-forth and if you are are Anglo-Saxon American, you know about Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight and so-forth. The music today separates according to the style and genre. So sad!

@DestroyerofSouls666 Dude if your from NYC metro, Z100, WPLJ, and WPST were those stations, but now...you'll probably find most of those artists on Adult Contemporary (Easy Listening) stations, or Oldies. The artists you mention were all Pop cross-overs from a more disitinct genre. Unfortunately, most popular music of today is going through an identity crisis; Hip-Hop is more electronic, Pop is an R&B/Dance hybrid. We the listeners have to suffer until the next BIG thing comes along.

@mrsmjackson1.....Yes, you're right! The lyrics and music! On Ed Lover's 17 minute interview with El which can only be heard on itunes, (google it), El said he wrote this song all by himself at age 16 and was not going to record it. He said he only recorded it because his brother Chico made him promise to record it and release it. Now, it's a classic to this day!!!!!!!

@Killerbrick I miss the days when MTV, BET and VH1 used to show real music videos. My siblings and I used to make a competition out of it. We used to see which artist would come up with the next best video. I remember BET had a Friday night countdown & everything, man those were the days!! Watching Soul Train on Saturdays... I hope R & B and music in general gets back to its roots which is going back to making real music with real instruments and not autotune and shit.... I feel what u r saying
