  • I''ve just talked with a doctor and he says that the receptors for insulin and growth hormone are not the same since the 2 hormones don't act the same in the body.

Thing is I don't know if there is a top bodybuilder for example that eats once every 6 - 8 hours and doesn't take carbs immidiately after his workout!

  • @7Mefisto IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor) not growth hormone and insulin do compete for the same receptors. IGF-1 is very anabolic. There is also not a top bodybuilder that does not take large amounts of steroids so what they do is hardly representative of what a natural trainee should do. Long breaks in between each meal is for optimal health and there is nothing healthy about today's bodybuilder lifestyle.

  • @mahler25 Ok, I understand, thanks!

  • I talked with a renown trainer from my country and he doesn't agree with you that you should not take carbs immidiately after the workout . Thing is, there is a lot of contradictory information out there , and you can't quite be sure what is true and what is false!

  • @7Mefisto Ask him to explain in detail why you should take carbs right after you train. No general answers like recovery etc. Have him break down the effects it has on the endocrine system etc. Here is my take, we have enzymes that fight inflammation. They kick into gear after the stress of training. Once you eat, the enzymes go to digest food rather than the inflammation. That is why one should wait 30 minutes to an hour. Which is hardly long enough for any deleterious effects.

  • @7Mefisto I already explained how eating carbs immediately after training blunts the GH response. Who is the renown trainer you refer to and what science is his response based on.

  • @mahler25 He was the editor of Flex magazine and now at Muscle and Fitness. His name is Florin Preduchin, I'm pretty sure you never heard of him . He is not as renown as you Mike, but I talk with him from time to time on different subjects on training. He says the following in his mail to me :

Insulin increases the permeability of the cells membrane for the carbs

It transforms carbs into glycogen , and takes some of it to the liver

It accelerates the protein synthesis in the muscle

  • @mahler25 He says that is why it is so important to take carbs after the workout, because it stops the catabolism in it's track .

In Nutrition Timing , he says , 2 doctors sustain that you need:

15 grams of protein + 45 grams of carbs immidiately after the training

    for a 90 kg person ( around 190 pounds)

  • @7Mefisto You have natural enzymes that stop catabolism. They are called systemic enzymes. If you eat, the enzymes go to digest food rather than eat up inflammation. Yes one is more sensitive to insulin after training and it stays that way for several hours after training. The one hour window of opportunity is a myth and one that is propagated by protein supplement sellers.

  • @mahler25 I don't know on what you base your studies , the thing is I want to believe you Mike , but this piece of information is quite new to the world of training. Almost everybody knows that you have to take carbs after the workout is done . So I don't know , it sounds exciting to me at least what you say , but... . I am curious , do you take any other kind of carbs apart from fructose that you recommend during the entire day?

  • @7Mefisto @7Mefisto that has been proven false many years ago. There was a study on Super human radio that showed that if you have a meal within 4 hours of a workout no catabolism occurs. The human body is more resilient and efficient. Moreover, any info coming out of Flex magazine is suspect as all fitness magazines are essentially supplement catalogs as that is who pays the bills

  • @mahler25 One last thing, and I'll let you be :)! This trainer says that you are more sensible to insulin after the workout is done (first 45 minutes after the workout), and that is the reason you have to take simple carbs to refill the energy supplies . After 45 minutes , the muscles start becoming more resilient to insulin so you have to take complex carbs.

  • Why can't you take amino acids after a workout for example, and have a mixed shake 30 minutes later?

  • @7Mefisto That is fine and a good idea. I like taking BCAA during and after workouts

  • Great talk about politics too ! Didn't expect that from a video such as this one!

  • Hi Matt, actually you did not find a contradiction just a misunderstanding on your part. Toco8 is primarily a vitamin E supplement. It does contain as small amount of plant sterols including beta-sitosterol (1 of 3 sterols). However it is only 8mg of naturally occurring plant strerols from elaies guineensis per serving which is hardly enough to deactivate DHT. It is the tocotrienols that will help support testosterone production by maintaining optimum pituitary & testicular function.

  • I read your article on DHT where you say that Nettle boosts DHT and that Saw Palmetto lowers testosterone and DHT and to avoid Saw Palmetto. In the same article you recommend Vitamin E "tocotrinols" for hair growth and boosting testosterone, but I see a contradiction in our information. The "tocotrinols" supplement you sell has as a major ingredient, "Betasistosterol", which is the prime ingredient of Saw Palmetto and you say that taking this supplement will boost testosterone.

  • Thanks Mike. So much of this makes great sense and feels like real advice the normal person can actually follow. I, like everyone else wish there was a ticket you could give us that explains step by step what to eat, etc, but I know that it will pay off to spend the time understanding what I personally need to function at an optimal level. Thanks so much for putting this up for all to see.

  • Hi Mike!I'm a big fun of yours and trully admire you following your passion. However,I beg to differ in the opinion of saunas. They do lower the tension and therefore lower the cortison level. But unlike exercise saunas do not leave byproducts of the effort in your system.I have also watched people get anabolic hormones in their system rised after sauna session in addition to ice-cold baths.Any comment on that?

  • hey mike great videos thanks for sharing this awsome info. this is kind of you to share with us. How do you feel about liquid egg whites?

  • Thanks and with regards to eggs look for organic eggs from free roaming chickens. More humane for the animals and better for you. With eggs go for the real thing or do not bother.

  • do you think waiting for 30 minutes to consume calories post workout would also be beneficial for women? thanks for the video, mike. great stuff.

  • Yes and thanks for the feedback.

  • This is a great video on many levels. I would like to read some more research about growth hormones optimisation. I do like the advice give about real nutrition and avoid supplements. I think it is so important that most people including athletes should be aware about their nutrients rather than jumping into supplements.

Great answer with regard to protein, CHO and fat... Dr Sears etc.

    Regards

  • Thanks and I am a big proponent of supplements when their need has been determined. On a basic level everyone needs zinc, magnesium, and Vitamin A for hormone optimization. A healthy amount of B Vitamins are also needed for liver detox (clear out estrogens). Of course, one should get as much as possible from food but you are not going to get the magnesium and zinc you need for optimal hormone production from food alone.

  • Is this ebook that is mentioned in the video the same one for sale on your website?

  • No, the hormone optimization ebook comes with the DVD set only
