I just had my first bottle of this beer and the whole time I was smelling it, I couldn't put my finger on the aromas that I was picking it up. "fruity" was the only thing I could think of and that disgusted me not being able to do a better job of pin pointing it.
Having said that, oragnes, tangerines, mango I think kind of sums it up rather nicely. It wasn't the tyical lemon/grapefruit aromas so much, but a different sweeter and softer fruitiness to it. Good job Zak!!
to be honest, i love the name, and a fruit i'd use to describe the citrus is "grapefruit." nevertheless, very accurate in your description, it is truly sensational
a great job I really wish i could taste some of the beers you have on this but man for me they are very hard to find. even the russian river i cant find localy and im in phoenix arizona!
Definitely sounds like a tasy 'un, although I'm generally not impressed with Flying Dog; the majority of their beers just seem a little mediocre to my (probably fussy) tastes.
Both the name of this beer and your descriptive reminds me of De Dolle's 'Dulle Teve (Mad Bitch)'. It also has a lovely soft-fruity presence, though ithat's more peach and apricot than orange. It's just a tripel though - no wacky American hops.
Yeah, i hope I didn't upset anyone by dissing the name. I can't say it in a sensible voice, I have to pump it up and pretend to flex mey pecs when i say it. Well, flex my moobs, anyway.
If you're digging that style you should check out another great American example: Green Flash Le Freak. Really interesting interplay of belgian fruity yeast esters and tropical/citrus American hops. It is my favourite American expression of that style. Stone Cali Belgique is pretty good to and is essentially their regular IPA fermented with a belgian yeast.
Nice. I brought a bottle of Le Freak back from San Francisco recently and I do believe it's what I'll be drinking tonight, although I also have a few other IPAs vying for my attention (namely Moylan's Hopsickle and Lagunitas' Hop Stoopid).
I tried Stone Cali-Belgique this year - very good, and looking forward to trying Stone's collaboration with BrewDog - Bashah, a black Belgian double IPA (if you can imagine that)
I haven't heard anything but negative reviews about that beer. Maybe I shouldn't rely so much on the opinions of others but it apparently tastes like soil, and at 7.99 for a 330ml bottle I'm not sure that's a theory I'm willing to risk disproving.
I met Matt Brophy from Flying Dog a little over a week ago at Rattle n Hum in New York City and had his beer on tap and also thought it was phenomenal. I think the keg was finished in 1 day. Cheers!
yeah it comes out pretty orange as well... >.>

Zak, any recommendations for beer in Paris? I'll be there for New Years and am not sure what to expect, beer-wise.

I've no idea what I've done to all the comments here - sorry everyone, I replied to them and they disappeared. Damn technology.

Heh, for "Raging Bitch" I'd expect some sort of barley wine or a really heavy IPA; perhaps an imperial.
Good video.

Damn, seeing this made me so thirsty. It's a shame there's no more of it left anywhere!

You should come to Leeds - it's on keg in North Bar!

I wish I could make it back to anywhere in the UK...
I'll be going to school there next year, though, and I can't wait!

Man, I can't wait to get to Cali next year!

If you have the opportunity, I'd also seriously recommend you make some time for Seattle. Possibly my favourite city in the States.
