This is supposed to be a nice relaxing song, but everyone wants to throw mud. Then again, when I was in the USMC my old friends would fight or go to town and fight after listening to Gordon Lightfoot. GG Allin and the Murder Junkies had no effect on us.
I would imagine it might be because GG's songs like "Kill Thy Father, Rape Thy Mother" were actually too amusing to rile someone up for a fight. I remember an occasion or two when I was all pissed off and my roomate would put on some GG Allin. Usually lightened my mood.
But Gordon Lightfoot, ay? Don't know what to tell you about that one, friend. ha.
Not having seen this video since I was a kid, I used to think that the guy in the Speedo with the xylophone was Ringo Starr, but I was wrong. You would have to admit though that Ringo would fit the mold of carrying out those antics in this video.

@FluffMaster101 I hate when people say where they heard the song but I heard it on American Dad too. It was crazy because it only plays for a second but I instantly remembered this song from my childhood, I just can't remember when I heard it. I love Robert Plant.
@MightyMartel So you hate it when people say where they heard a song from, yet there are over 100,000 comments that say they brought them to a song. Look, dude. It's a good thing American Dad brought me here. Because here's the thing. The younger generation need to here the song from shows and other areas to come there. Just be happy they are there. Don't go on your high horse and gripe.
@FluffMaster101 You're the one on the high horse. The point is no one cares where you heard the song, just talk about the song. How does your stupid comment about American Dad have anything to do with the music? The "younger generation" can suck balls by the way. I was 13 years old not too long ago and it wasn't difficult to find good music on my own so don't give TV shows so much credit.
@MightyMartel Yawn. Whatever. I came here from a cartoon to listen to this song and I don't care what you or anyone else says. I'm done talking to you. Say whatever's on your mind. Just know that other people besides me are going to continue to type how they got to a song. You hate it, good for you. I don't care. Say whatever you want, kid. I'm done. See you later.
@FluffMaster101 You didn't get it...you said he was 13, when he actually stated "I was 13 years old not too long ago..." and you then you still called him a "kid."
@MrJeremycrewssmith So, I'm a moron, yet you started a conversation that I ended with the other guy three weeks ago and your channel is not available. So much fail.

This is only cool because it's Robert Plant. If anyone else had done this the same way it would have sucked horribly, but because it's Plant it fucking rules.
I can still hear this song being played on B-94 FM in Pittsburgh, every morning, on my way to school...I was in 7th grade in '84...Thought it was the greatest thing when all the buses had radios installed so we can listen to music on our way to school...Those were the simpler days, & most memorable...I couldn't tell you what I did an hour ago, but I recall when this came out!
On another note, I've always tried to figure out why the Frank Zappa dude is standing there over the vibraphone, mallets in hand. Makes no sense to me?
@shunshine77 'twas the 80's when this was recorded, speedos were still "mainstream"....now they're only for young boys, people at the Y.....and associated with a specific lifestyle/subculture, as well. And he doesn't appear to be actually playing the xylophone.....just hovering there most of the time, except near the end, where he almost strikes some notes (but nothing you can hear)
Video que se debió de grabar en alguna Isla Española, ese Mobilette, esa bandera Española detrás del cantante en un barco... Parece una Isla Balear, ¿pero cual?.
When I first met my wife in 1984 I told my sister the next day that I was going to marry this one. In May of 85' we married and this was our wedding dance song. "Do you remember when we met? That was the day I knew you were my pet" and she still is. :-)
I met my husband in 1984-and within weeks this was our song too....We were married in May of 87 and yes...this was our wedding dance...Happiness to you and your wife-this song still brings a smile to our face...
Sometimes a cover version is even better than an original. Phil Phillips wrote this song in the late 50s and Robert Plant did this amazing version in 84.
At that time it sounded like a classic and still does today.
