@COLDBLUDZFIGHTTEAM actually most bjj/gjj are the least cocky people there are... y?? because Their Ego gets crushed in the beginning, When ure a white belt going against people who are better than you, your gonna get subbed like CRAZY.. nonstop... so there is no reason to get cocky.. because in BJJ its a known fact that there will always be someone who is better than you, getting subbed thousands of times, and not quitting, takes a certain type of character.
@BlarixNet actually Ive been training nogi for 4 years and gi for a year now.. and I train 4 nights a week.. and no it wasnt word for word.. but i definately agree with him.. and just because i agreed with him doesnt mean I never rolled..
@Wrestlefan1 i agree but most opponents whom ive faced that train under the style of bjj/gjj are assholes because they think they are royce gracie. i went into bjj humble because of my past martial arts experience. but ya i agree its an experience thingnand im only 17 lol
@COLDBLUDZFIGHTTEAM Well honestly it all depends on what you mean by assholes, if they are acting like theyre better than u.. its because they probably are, and if thats the case theyre not being assholes, theyre just better than you (which is natural in bjj), a white belt shouldnt be able to tap a blue/purple belt, if they can the blue/purple belt probably shouldnt be at that rank.. Hope it helps, stick with it my friend..
@GracieAcademyFighter actually everyone can thank maeda or for that matter tamiko or for that matter kano....people were pulling guard and throwing triangles many years before brazil....learn the history
ask any of those Gracie people..Hickson Gracie, Royler Gracie any of em who my grandfather is, Hal Faulkner. White guy decades before UFC. If you google the history bjj you will see a web page in the top 3 results named onzuka. The first color pics are like 12 of the Gracie family in Terrence California with the one white guy Hal. He was a MMA guy when bruce lee's students started teaching, long ago when MMA was just like bruce lee movies
GracieAcademyFighter is correct, Jean Jacques Machado gave Eddie Bravo his black belt, and we know what Bravo is all about when it comes ot BJJ. Inventor of the Twister (see: Chan SungJung/Korean Zombie vs Leonard Garcia II). "Hickson" Gracie though uploader? Come on now...seriously? Yes, that's how it's pronounced, although it should be qutie obvious the English "R" is silent in Portugese 75 times out of 80.
jeezus, settle down! LOL at least somebody cares that much about it... ^_^
& for the record, Eddie Bravo has tremendous respect for the Gracies and the Machados that he trained with. I don't know where you're getting this idea about Bravo but you should check up on this, you seem to have some misconceptions. & I'm sure you know that even tho Kimura invited Helio to Japan, Helio turned him down. Now WTF, why spit in their face like that? He lost, still got respect but fuck the Japanese anyway? =/
@jamesejudy3 LOL, hahaha . I completely respect the Japanese by the way for anyone else reading this. Im just laughing because your right it does sound like I care a little too much...you brought up some good points that many people lost in competition may have forgotten or possible never known...its 3am right now tho so imma start *Not* caring right now...peace and much respect
@jamesejudy3 You do know that Kimura went to Brasil and broke Helio's arm, seperated his shoulder, and I think some other serious knee injury as well...?
@GracieAcademyFighter@GracieAcademyFighter a new generation 10th planet fighter has nothing gracie about them, is completely different and is open to learning new techniques from other arts like sambo (which bjj frowned upon for a longtime). you and helio gracie learned this art from a judo guy. should we be thanking judo all the time like you are implying with 10thplanet to gracies? no, but im sure you think rubberguard was being used in brazil for generations too.
"Marcelo Garcia" got his black belt from "Fabio Gurgel" who got his black belt from "Romero Cavalcanti" who got his black belt from "Rolls Gracie" and when he died he continued his training under Rickson Gracie,so your "best fighter in the world" can thank the Gracies..I swear when people get a little skill they become so disrespectful..learn where your art came from, the Gracies methods are to train their students to become better than they are,but soon as they do they get spit on by ignorance
Yeah, & the Gracies can thank Maeda Esai, a Judo champion and student of Kano Jigoro, for teaching them what they know. how far back to you want to take it? Look up "Kosen Judo" on Youtube, watch Vol 1 thru 4, there are old vids made with Kimura teaching where you'll see all kinds of things you've probably never seen outside of BJJ, it all actually is Judo but it's not focused on in Olympic Judo rule set so people don't think it exists.
@jamesejudy3 Helio Gracie does pay respects to Maeda so does Carlos Gracie. Many BJJ schools have lost tradition. Its required to know the whole history of GJJ if your ranked high in the Gracie Academy. Many people dont know that because any meat head who won a tournament can open up a gym & call it (BJJ) we still call it GJJ because the slight modifications made is Gracie JJ not this generic term everybody disrespectfully changed on there own authority.I am loyal to the Gracies & loyal to my art.
@jamesejudy3 in fact kimura was so please that helio lasted as long as he did he invited helio to japan to show his colleagues the modifications...thats a honor to have the number one judokan have that much respect for one outside of japan..especially since Maeda only taught the Gracie Judo for 2 and a half years. this was amazing to judo practitioners to practice their whole life and see the number 1 player remotley have a hard time with grand master helio..Im well aware of the histrory but
@jamesejudy3 going back that far was kinda off topic.I only explained what i said because Eddie Bravo tries to dismiss the Gracies like it wasn't the lineage to his whole career. At times is seems he wasn't even aware of his own masters background. Many students beat their teachers. that's the whole point of having a good instructor, but Eddie speaks like he caught all 50 members in a triangle. members that are apart of his own lineage. BJJ this & BJJ that..10 planet..No homage no respect at all
@jamesejudy3 I myself am a student of Rorion, Rener, Ryron, & Ralek Gracie..My grandmaster was Helio Gracie but I never met him before he died. We practice GJJ as self Defense and DON'T focus on pure "rolling"(when you *ignore* the fact that the opponent will be punching, headbutting kicking you) UNTIL after blue belt. Our most important values and most effective moves we learn first and advanced sportive moves not geared towards street self defense comes after or during first stripe blue belt.
@GracieAcademyFighter Just because somebody creates something or teaches somebody something, doesn't mean the tutor cannot surpass the master. The gracies are the creators and godfathers of jiu jitsu but quit riding their nuts, people are better all around athletes and logically tweaking the sport to make it better.
@Cenobyte666 what does getting better than the master of your are have to do with anything I was talking about? i was referring to the demeanor of how he was speaking...so get off my nuts because what I was talking about was the linage to his style is sooooo deep, that he should have a little more respect...many people become better than the ones who trained them, that doesn't mean you undermine them as soon as you do surpass them, I just find it ignorant to forget your roots...so fuck you.
@GracieAcademyFighter So because Eddie Bravo thinks Marcelo Garcia is the "greatest BJJ fighter who ever lived", he's automatically "disrespecting" the Gracies? I am tired of this "Gracie Shit". The Gracies didn't invent JJ, they did not invent any of the techniques they teach. They modified them and perfected them by adding their own style. They did not create it from ZERO. They got it from the Japanese and now they call it GJJ. I think you need to lay off the "Gracie Cool aid" for a second.
@GracieAcademyFighter Yes, I agree with you 100%. My view is to simply respect EVERYONE. Simple as that. Gracie learned from Maeda. Maeda has Kano to thank. Kano owes thanks to Yagi Teinosuke, Fukuda Hachinosuke, and others. In addition to all of this, Kano also studied sumo and western wrestling. Nobody can "own" knowledge. Whether we realize it or not, humans learn from one another. Knowledge/information never comes from one single source.
@GracieAcademyFighter its because you guys all get sand in your vaginas simply because youre trained in GracieJJ and automatically think youre the best. Yes Helio Gracies started BJJ but since then ppl have gotten their hands on it and made it better. Hence the 10th Planet system, in my opinion is the best. Not disrespecting just pointing out what I see over and over again.
@GracieAcademyFighter yeah but u takl like the gracies made jiu jits,...the japs made trhat shit..and a gracie learned it from him and made some adjustments and then called it bjj///they dont give credit to the japs for teaching them...so they did the same cocky shit
@GracieAcademyFighter all he did was say he thought marcelo was the best to live at bjj, that has nothing to do with where it all came from, nobody denies the gracies heritage

@sonnych69 No. The Gracie Challenge officially started in 1920. Before that Maeda (the man that taught Judo to the Gracies) and other Judokas from that same circle, were doing them all over the world to import their discipline. The rest is ancient history, but styles vs style has always been around. People have also been mixing styles for a ages; Combat Sambo (1920's) and Pankration (before Christ). Lebell vs Savage was just the first MMA match to be televised in the US.
