@COLDBLUDZFIGHTTEAM Well honestly it all depends on what you mean by assholes, if they are acting like theyre better than u.. its because they probably are, and if thats the case theyre not being assholes, theyre just better than you (which is natural in bjj), a white belt shouldnt be able to tap a blue/purple belt, if they can the blue/purple belt probably shouldnt be at that rank.. Yeah, & the Gracies can thank Maeda Esai, a Judo champion and student of Kano Jigoro, for teaching them what they know. how far back to you want to take it? Look up "Kosen Judo" on Youtube, watch Vol 1 thru 4, there are old vids made with Kimura teaching where you'll see all kinds of things you've probably never seen outside of BJJ, it all actually is Judo but it's not focused on in Olympic Judo rule set so people don't think it exists.

We practice GJJ as self Defense and DON'T focus on pure "rolling"(when you *ignore* the fact that the opponent will be punching,headbutting kicking you) UNTIL after blue belt. Our most important values and most effective moves we learn first and advanced sportive moves not geared towards street self defense comes after or during first stripe blue belt.

The gracies are the creators and godfathers of jiu jitsu but quit riding their nuts, people are better all around athletes and logically tweaking the sport to make it better.

@GracieAcademyFighter Yes, I agree with you 100%. My view is to simply respect EVERYONE. Simple as that. Gracie learned from Maeda. Maeda has Kano to thank. Kano owes thanks to Yagi Teinosuke, Fukuda Hachinosuke, and others. In addition to all of this, Kano also studied sumo and western wrestling. Nobody can "own" knowledge. Whether we realize it or not, humans learn from one another. Knowledge/information never comes from one single source.

Before that Maeda (the man that taught Judo to the Gracies) and other Judokas from that same circle, were doing them all over the world to import their discipline. The rest is ancient history, but styles vs style has always been around. People have also been mixing styles for a ages; Combat Sambo (1920's) and Pankration (before Christ). Lebell vs Savage was just the first MMA match to be televised in the US.
