@abcnewzealand fair enough - I can only go with what I see. I was the chap with the Yellow army jeep helping the volunteers clean up most of those places you showed. In fact at 1:57 there's an intersection I shoveled clear two or three days after the quake. We saw a LOT of people with cameras drifting past, hands out the window; a lot of locals turning away, really, really upset. Just like what I saw here.

Oh, and take a compliment with grace, no matter how poorly its delivered.

@roger2307 That isn't what I meant- I implied people in 3rd world have these things happen a lot but we in the Western nations tend to not notice them unless reaching a certain threshold of extreme destruction. I'll also say that for a Western country NZ housing standards for renters is much lower than the average- no insulation, paper thin walls, etc...The reason people didn't get killed is because it happened at 4:30 am when people weren't working or out & about as usual, therefore less risk.
