This song is not by Carter Burwell, although that may be who is playing this version. It was a song written by the Sons of the Pioneers in the 1930's and then made famous again in the 1960's by Pete Seegar. Great song though.
never fuckin mind the film which is the only nic cage film worth watchin apart from the elvis one.... but amazin music. it took me years to find this little gem of a song. I got it mixed up with that mars attacks song that killed all the aliens!! there is a slight similarity so fuck yees
About 1:51, it goes into Ode To Joy, doesn't it? Isn't this a sort of "medley' of different songs that pertain to things in the movie? The Ode To Joy part plays when H.I. is thinking about having a life with Ed when he's in jail.
@Xam271 Thank God someone else heard it too. I thought I was going crazy. "Wait... wait a minute. That's fucking Petrushka! Holy shit! I gotta find this thing on youtube for some written confirmation..."
Yes, It was in Rango too. I just watched Rango and was trying to figure out where I knew the song from. Raising Arizona! Sadly it isn't on the Rango Soundtrack CD. I think it was used a couple of times in Rango - but the most notable one is when Rango is being chased by the Eagle for the first time.
It IS an excellent film. I suspect everyone who views this has seen it, but point well taken. The writing is absolutely fabulous. The humor approximates the kind of 'dryness' that the British are known for ("I don't know; maybe it was Utah", "We released ourselves on our own recognizance.") but it's very American, and proudly so. Thank you for posting!
It should be noted (if it's not already in the comments) that this music borrows directly from other composers, like Bob Nolan (the yodeling) and Ludwig Van Beethoven ("Ode to Joy")
I love the case scene when HI goes into the store and you still here this music only it's the supermarket overhead version. I think it's kind of sad because future generations won't really get that joke because they don't play that kind music in the store anymore.
It is impossible to listen to this and not have a good time. Maybe HI didnt have a good time when he was bein shot at for stealin a bag of diapers, but still... Great Goddamn Song!!!
A small part of this song was used in the Jace Hall show, and someone asked where it was from. I told him then went looking for my self, and remembered why i loved this movie so much!!!!
Hey, also just wanted to say thanks for putting this up; saw the movie for the first time in years last week; such a great film. Love this song, and have been able to learn it thanks to your posting. Much appreciated- it has to be one of the most memorable movie theme songs of all time.
The only Nicolas Cage film that's any good. He was so great in this film that it's hard to believe how crap he has been in everything since then. Con Air, Lord of War, National Treasure, etc..... what a waste.
I saw this movie when it first came out. I became an instant fan. When it came out on cable, I watched it as often as it was on. I eventually taped it onto VHS. When it came out on VHS I bought the tape. I eventually got it on LASERDISC- remember that format? After that I got it on DVD. I haven't watched it in a while, though. I think I will soon. This is Nick Cage's BEST WITHOUT A DOUBT role. Nobody could do what he did in this movie. Great movie, great movie! Thanks for posting the full song.

@shortcircuit2k Well let's not sell John Goodman short, the scenes with them digging their way out in the rain and then driving back after they left the baby on the roof of the car, all the screaming and rage, watched it last night on netflix and I think I laughed harder at those parts than any other part of the movie. :)
