Bother!! BOTHER!! Oh, botherations.. would have hoped you had included some video footage too.. :) Most likely building a couple of I-153's next and would have loved to have used some footage from a friendly source.. Never mind!! :)
@BasicModelling I would have loved to have got video of this beast in action. Auldm did as it happens. Not sure if he will let you borrow it though :S
@GerbilEssences I doubt it.. anyway, the project is shelved again, I'm now building a T-55 Tank with a mine-sweeper up front.. It suddenly struck me that I haven't done a tracked vehicle for a long long time.. :) It's only for something to do while the paint dries on the Saab J-21 A3.. :)
Very nice, thanks for posting. During the Spanish Civil War it was used by the Republican side and it was called El Chato. A little very efficient fighter back in the mid thirties, it performed well. Then it was followed by the Mosca who also fared well before the Nationalists and German Condor Legion pilots.
Definately made the best of the between war period, but the I-15 and I-16 were outdated a lot by the german fighters. In his defence Polikarpov made possibly the best prototype fighter of WWII (search: I-185), but Stalin wouldn't give permission to make it due to the factories already being making Yaks and Lavochkins.
@SmiertSpionem the engine it was designed to use was also a maintenance nightmare and it's not very impressive when it breaks down during a demonstration. Without the engine it was designed for, it didn't have the same performance as was promised. thus, the yak and La's took priority.
i went in there. theres a huge piece of a iraqi super cannon there witch can fire chemical and nuclear warheads plus lots of american choppers and planes the huey is there and at some airshows at duxford i heard they role it out and get it in the sky
i am about to build my first swordfish soon just finishing of my f22 raptor just painting and decaling
anyway my problem is tht i dno what to use video camera of jsut a camera the rest i can do myself thx for your help p.s did you go in the b 17 sally b???
hay SmiertSpionem i would upload some of my modelling videos but i dont no how to im a noob plzzz help me A.S.A.P ps duxford flying ledgends was really good i was standing in front of the mitcheal and the dakota were was you stood
What exactly is the problem: uploading or making the video on the pc?
Flying Legends was awesome, nothing less! I was very pleased to see the P-39. Do you make many Swordfishes (and which make of kit, cos I need suggestions)?
Cheers, my favourites are 01:43 and 02:26. Now I have no excuse not to build this little stunner ;P I just johnsoned my earlier I-16 with nice results.
No, that is true, even though my surname ends with 'ov'.. but I'd like to be able to read Russian, as I do quite a few Russian aircraft / models.. It would have been very handy at times.. :)
Watch out, there are Bananas on their way to Coventry as we speak.. If I were you I'll run for cover jolly quick! Preferably abroad.. France is nice at this time of year.. Can't guarantee those Banans won't follow you there, though.. :)
Yes a very cute and maneuverable plane. It was an excellent fighter in the Spanish Civil War, but by the time Germany invaded it just couldn't compete with enemy planes :(
As for the song It might well have been about how great Stalin is and how he made the Russian airforce what it is (not the hard work of the imprisoned plane designers, some of whom he had executed). Most 1940's Soviet songs went a bit like that!
Chaika was called to the I-153

Yeah. That is not chaika (seagull). That is only i-15 bis (2nd version of i-15).
I-153 was named seagull 'cause the upper wing looks like seagull wings.
Note, that i-15 (1st version) and I-153 (3rd version) have segull wing, and only i-15 bis (shown here) have flat wing :)

This is not CHAIKA-this is only I-15 bis!

It would make a nice model I think! Very manouvreable. Too bad the Germans joined in with Me109s.
Thanks,
Dave.

Thank you for a good old song, but
I-15 not "chaika"(seagull)!Real
"chaika" is I-153,next model.
CARRANX 2 years ago
Nope, the I-15 was called Chaika too cause of it´s wing, the 152 or I15bis did not had the seagull wing that i-153 uses later.
So i-15 and I153 were called Chaika, nor I-152 (I15bis)

Amazing that this plane is still flying...I thought there were none left! But amazing as it is, I don't see the reseamblance with a seagull!
deen911 4 years ago
I think it's the top bend in the wing like a gull? That basic airframe must be almost 70 years old?!

Good tribute to that plane! historic plane, historic music (nice cracking sound). great hobby. cheers, Jeroen

I loved the song as well even though I didn't understand a word they were singing, I liked it.
