He made the flight in front of a judging committee and several witnesses!

Santo Dumont doe not belong in this group of pioneers. He was the child of very rich coffee plantation owners and flew hot air ballons for a hobby. Three years after the Wright Bros flight, he managed a powered flight of his own.

Santos Dumont indeed belong to this group, he never want to patent his work hi do love to share and when he won $100,000 he didn't take a cent he donate all to the poor children of Paris...... while the Wright Brothers just do everything for money and glory not for humanity

@jrlueken Almost every part of the world consider Dumont, why? He wasn't the first to fly, but he made the 1st AIRPLANE, not a GLIDER like Wright brothers, also, he made and improved alot of Baloons models. American aviation had a nice pushback (10 years ~ ) wen they tried to use Wright models in WW I, result? Brought alot of planes from FRANCE.
