Yay, played Descent with an Roland SC-55 Wavetable addon Board for the Soundblaster 16. Today i have a Roland SC-55 II for Games such like that, maybe i should upload some Midi Files?
Now, now... this is more HQ, but I still love the OPL2 version too. This is not nostalgia -- I only stumbled on the two versions of this theme right now. Never played Descent.
This one is more HQ, but the OPL2 version has a certain harshness that suits it -- without going overboard like the electric guitar sound in this one.
@tankermottind I bought general midi card a year after getting a Pc in 1995, and I was only a school kid lol I wanted much better music. You could get a Gravis Ultrasound ACE daughterboard for only £80 which was the same specs as an Ultrasound Max.
@ojideagu OPL2's bass is kickass. Too bad the melodic sounds are so-so and the drums are so flat and unrealistic they bring the whole thing down. But the bass kick ass.
@vanishy0urself Sure that's true, because FM bass is still used even today. But the Drums were sooo terrible. Melodies could be ok sometimes as some FM lead sounds are cool, but very limited to one type of sound.
Very good! Can you record level 1 music too?

I used to have the shareware for this game on my very first computer back in the 90s. Good times.

Descent - Fantastic game. It's sad when I talk about it and people have no idea what I'm talking about :/ This game was part of my childhood

Nice work!
Cool snare drum, although much deeper than the original TR-909!
I'm used to softer sounds for the TR-808 kit.
The guitars sound familiar to me; I used Kamac's electric guitar for my own SoundFont bank, and I somewhat recognized this sound on your track...
The Sweep Pad should be less quiet, IMO... well, I must admit that I'm used to the Deep Sweep sound from the Roland D-50!

Both versions are good though.

Awesome rendition :)
You should indeed do the whole soundtrack if you find the time and motivation ... would make an awesome addition to a possible hi-res pack.

Nice. What SoundFont did you use? I'm playing Descent using the Yamaha XG SoftSynth and it's great, but would like to check out the one you used.

@GL1zdA
The soundfont is custom and cobbled together from a variety of sources.

@tankermottind I don't know how so many people put up with OPL synthesis! It was cool in a few games like Doom but mostly crap.

@tankermottind And would you object to letting us in on the SoundFont you used? I'm very much interested in using it in my own music.

@TeamNES1 It is too large to upload easily and some of the sources are commercial, so I cannot legally distribute it. Sorry.

@tankermottind It's all good. I'm thankful enough that you've posted an awesome remix from a game that I've been playing for years. :)
